Severino was removed from his start Friday versus the Brewers due to an apparent injury, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Hoch notes that Severino looked to be experiencing "significant discomfort" in his left side/oblique after giving up a leadoff single to Brice Turang in the top of the fifth inning. The 29-year-old right-hander had surrendered two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five over four innings prior to his departure.

Kopech won't start as scheduled Saturday and will instead move into a multi-inning relief role, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

After putting up a 9.50 ERA and 2.33 WHIP through 18 frames across his last five starts, Kopech will officially lose his spot in the rotation. The team reportedly still views him as a starter for next season, but a few good appearances out of the bullpen to close out 2023 would help Kopech build his case. Jose Urena will be selected from Triple-A Charlotte to start in Kopech's place Saturday against the Tigers.

The White Sox will call Urena up from Triple-A Charlotte to start Saturday's game against Detroit, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

If Urena is able to turn in a decent performance against the Tigers, it's possible he remains in Chicago's rotation down the stretch, as Michael Kopech has been moved to the bullpen. Urena has put up a 3.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 21.1 innings in Triple-A since signing with the White Sox in August, but his 5.77 ERA in the majors since 2022 makes the 31-year-old a risky fantasy option.

Mize (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Mize was pulled off his throwing program Aug. 30 due to elbow fatigue. He's now scheduled to resume throwing off a mound and could face hitters again shortly afterward. However, there is still no guarantee Mize makes it back to Detroit's pitching staff before the end of the season.

Means (elbow) struck out four over five innings Wednesday and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks in a rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk.

The veteran lefty's 30-day rehab assignment window will come to a close Friday, so his start Wednesday was presumably his last in the minors before he returns from the 60-day injured list. Means pitched five innings in each of his final two rehab starts with Norfolk, tossing 67 pitches (45 strikes) on Wednesday after throwing 86 pitches in his prior appearance. He turned in a 3.74 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB in 21.2 innings over his six rehab outings between Norfolk and Double-A Bowie as he works his way back from April 2022 Tommy John surgery. The Orioles have already moved Cole Irvin to the bullpen to facilitate Means' addition to the team's six-man rotation, though manager Brandon Hyde told Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com earlier this week that Baltimore could downsize to a five-man unit as the postseason approaches. Even in that case, Means might remain in a starting role. Both Jack Flaherty and Kyle Gibson have struggled of late, and while rookie Grayson Rodriguez has been excellent since rejoining the Orioles after the All-Star break, the organization may have some desire to keep his innings in check down the stretch.

Bradley is scheduled to start Friday's home game against the Mariners.

In his first big-league start since July 29 on Sunday, Bradley turned in uneven results in a no-decision at Cleveland. He struck out seven and allowed just one earned run on three hits over five innings, but he issued five free passes and threw two wild pitches. Despite his poor efficiency, Bradley will get at least one more turn through the rotation, as the Rays are short on healthy starting options.

Rodon (2-5) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings in a 10-3 loss to Detroit. He struck out four without issuing any walks.

The 30-year-old spotted the Tigers a two-run lead before registering an out Thursday, allowing a leadoff double to Matt Vierling before Spencer Torkelson hit a wall-scraping homer to right field. Rodon surrendered five more runs across the third and fourth frames, resulting in an early exit with a season-high seven runs charged to his line. After back-to-back campaigns with a sub-3.00 ERA, the southpaw has endured a tumultuous and abbreviated first season in New York, compiling a 2-5 record with an unsightly 6.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a disappointing 1.95 K/BB ratio across 10 starts (46.1 innings). Rodon will look to get back on track in his next outing, tentatively scheduled to take place in Boston early next week.

Quantrill pitched six scoreless innings against the Angels on Thursday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six batters in a no-decision.

Quantrill was excellent in the outing, holding Los Angeles to three singles and allowing multiple baserunners in just one frame. The right-hander looked to be in line to have his seven-start winless streak snapped when the Guardians put up two runs in the half-inning following his departure, but Emmanuel Clase blew a save opportunity in the ninth to hold Quantrill to a no-decision. Despite the disappointing finish, Cleveland has to be happy with how Quantrill has pitched since returning from a lengthy stay on the injured list Sept. 1. In two outings since rejoining the rotation, he's posted two quality starts while allowing two runs on five hits over 12 frames.

Rodriguez (11-7) allowed three runs on four hits across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Yankees. He walked four and struck out four.

Rodriguez matched his season high with four walks, but he was otherwise effective against New York to earn his second straight win and 11th of the year. The lefty had 13 or more wins in each of his last three seasons in Boston, but he fell back to just five victories in his first campaign with the Tigers last year as he missed significant time due to personal reasons. Rodriguez will look to keep rolling in his next scheduled start, which is slated for next week against the Reds.

Castillo (12-7) earned the win Thursday, allowing four hits and four walks over six scoreless innings against the Rays. He struck out eight.

Castillo wasn't particularly efficient Thursday, issuing four walks and allowing at least one baserunner in all but one of his six innings. However, the 30-year-old ace worked around the traffic and held Tampa Bay scoreless to win his sixth consecutive decision. During that eight-start span, Castillo has posted a 3.24 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 49:12 K:BB across 50 innings. His next start is expected to be at home versus the Angels early next week.
