The Angels recalled Diaz from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Thursday against the Guardians, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Diaz has spent all season with Salt Lake, putting up a 4.55 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through 87 innings -- primarily as a multi-inning reliever. He had a solid run with the Angels last season to the tune of a 2.93 ERA over 15.1 frames, and the team will hope to get similar production out of Diaz as he faces a Guardians offense that ranks 27th in baseball with a .689 OPS. Gerardo Reyes was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Cortes (shoulder) will start a throwing program soon but isn't expected to return to game action this season, MLB.com reports.

Cortes has been on the injured list since Aug. 11 due to a left rotator cuff strain. Boone indicated the southpaw will resume throwing this weekend, so he appears to be improving in his recovery, but the Yankees skipper also said that Cortes' season is likely over. If that's the case, Cortes will finish 2023 with a 4.97 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 67:20 K:BB and 5-2 record over 63.1 innings covering 12 starts.

The Tigers placed Manning on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right foot fracture.

Manning has already been ruled out for the rest of the season, so his move to the injured list is simply procedural. His roster spot will be filled by Trey Wingenter, who was brought up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.

Miller threw two perfect innings while striking out three in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Toronto.

Miller looked dominant in his return from a four-month IL stint, striking out three Blue Jays while his fastball topped out at 102 MPH. While Miller's value will be limited when pitching out of the pen, he certainly has the stuff to succeed in a high-leverage role. Overall, the rookie right-hander sports a 3.09 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB across 23.1 innings in the majors this season.

Paddack (elbow) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks and struck out four across 2.2 innings Wednesday in his first rehab appearance with Single-A Fort Myers.

According to Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Paddack's fastball sat around 95 miles per hour, and he induced five whiffs on six swings while throwing his changeup. Paddack is nearly 16 months removed from Tommy John surgery and presumably will require at least a couple more rehab appearances before being activated from the 60-day injured list. The Twins could use him as a multi-inning reliever late in the season.

Glasnow (8-5) picked up the win in Wednesday's 3-1 victory over the Red Sox, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over six innings while striking out 14.

The 14 strikeouts tied his career high, a mark he set in April 2021 against the Rangers. Glasnow generated a dazzling 22 swinging strikes among his 103 pitches as he fanned double-digit batters for the third time this season. It was also his third straight quality start and eighth in nine trips to the mound since the All-Star break. With Shane McClanahan (elbow) done for the season, Glasnow has stepped up as Tampa Bay's ace, posting a 2.33 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 70:12 K:BB through 58 second-half innings. His next outing lines up for a road series in Minnesota to begin next week.

Gilbert (13-5) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in an 8-4 victory over the Reds. He struck out nine.

The right-hander won his eighth straight decision, a streak that dates back to the beginning of July, with another strong performance that saw him generate 37 called or swinging strikes among his 96 pitches. Gilbert sports a 2.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 78:11 K:BB through 74.2 innings over the course of his undefeated streak, and his next win will establish a career high at 14. He'll look for it in his next start, likely to come at home early next week against the Angels.

Williams (2-5) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on one hit and four walks over five innings against the Twins. He struck out four.

Williams struggled a bit with his command Wednesday, issuing a walk in four of his five frames while also allowing a runner to advance to second on a wild pitch. However, the rookie right-hander was still able to get the job done, limiting the Twins to a single hit to help secure his second win of the season. It was a nice bounceback outing for Williams after exiting his previous start with right knee soreness, and it marked his first win since July 8. On the downside, he did match his season high with four walks and has now issued multiple free passes in three of his last four outings.

Ryan (10-9) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over four innings against Cleveland. He struck out three.

The 27-year-old allowed only two runs on the afternoon but needed 89 pitches to get through four innings as the right-hander was replaced by Louie Varland to open the fifth. Ryan has now failed to make it through five frames in three of his last five starts, though he's allowed two or fewer runs in three straight. Ryan has also lost five of his last seven decisions (spanning 10 starts), surrendering at least four runs in five of those outings.

Schmidt (9-8) earned the win over Detroit on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out six batters over 6.1 innings.

Schmidt gave up a run on two hits in the first inning, then rolled through the following five frames, at one point retiring 16 straight hitters. The right-hander had his final line tarnished a bit during the seventh, when he gave up three hits and two runs while retiring just one batter, but he was still able to finish with a quality start and a win. Schmidt came into the contest without a victory over his previous four appearances, a span during which he posted a 6.52 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 19.1 innings. In his first full season as a starter, he's posted a 4.54 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 139:38 K:BB across 140.2 frames.
