Sandoval (7-12) allowed seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out three over five innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Orioles.

Sandoval has given up at least four runs in four of his last five outings, and he's walked no fewer than three batters in any of those starts. It was fair to expect him to have some difficulty with the Orioles' deep lineup, which produced just one extra-base hit against the southpaw. Sandoval's ERA ticked up to 4.31 with a 1.38 WHIP and 115:66 K:BB through 131.2 innings over 25 starts. He's projected for another tough start in Seattle in next week.

Gibson (14-8) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings to earn the win over the Angels on Wednesday.

Gibson struggled to a 7.89 ERA over 29.2 innings in August, but his September is off to a better start. He's given up nine home runs over his last six outings, accounting for nearly half of the 20 long balls he's surrendered this season. Gibson is at a 5.12 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 140:48 K:BB through 168.2 innings through 29 starts overall. The veteran right-hander is lined up for a favorable home start versus the Cardinals next week, though it's unclear if Gibson's spot in the rotation will be safe once John Means (elbow) returns from the injured list.

Verlander (11-7) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Rangers.

Verlander and former Mets teammate Max Scherzer got the starts Wednesday, but only Verlander lived up to the billing with a sharp start. The 40-year-old right-hander had some trouble with Marcus Semien, but the rest of the Rangers' lineup didn't challenge him. Verlander has allowed one earned run or fewer in three of his last four starts. He's at a 3.23 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 119:40 K:BB through 136.1 innings over 23 starts this season. Verlander is projected for a favorable home start versus the Athletics next week.

Lyles (4-16) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while failing to record a strikeout over 5.1 innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the White Sox.

Lyles has gone eight innings in every other start over his last six outings, though he has a 1-4 record with 27 runs allowed (26 earned) over 37.1 innings in that span. The veteran right-hander was OK in this one, with Andrew Vaughn's two-run home run in the sixth inning ending his start. Lyles is now at a 6.24 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 104:41 K:BB through 155.1 innings spanning 27 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in a rematch versus the White Sox next week.

Toussaint (3-7) allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Royals.

Toussaint earned his first quality start of the year with his effort. He was able to limit the damage to a two-run home run by Nelson Velazquez in the fourth inning. Toussaint had allowed 10 runs over 14.1 innings across his previous three starts. For the season, he has a 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 70:49 K:BB through 70.2 innings over 16 appearances (12 starts) between the White Sox and Guardians. Toussaint is projected for a rematch with the Royals in Chicago next week.

Manning suffered a fractured right foot during Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

A 119-mph grounder off the bat of Giancarlo Stanton struck Manning's right foot in the first inning of Wednesday's contest, and he will now officially miss the rest of the season. Manning already missed a significant amount of time at the beginning of the year with a fracture in the same foot, though he reportedly injured a different part of his foot Wednesday. The 25-year-old righty will finish 2023 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.04 WHIP through 78 innings.

Irvin will serve as a multi-inning reliever out of Baltimore's bullpen going forward, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

As the Orioles shift to a five-man rotation, Irvin will end up as the odd man out after accumulating a 4.91 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 69.2 innings on the year. Given his relatively poor performance and the impending return of John Means (elbow), Irvin likely won't make it back into the rotation before the end of the season.

Manning was removed from Wednesday's game against the Yankees after getting hit in the right foot by a comebacker, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Giancarlo Stanton smacked a 119-mph grounder that ricocheted off Manning's right foot in the first inning of Wednesday's contest, and Manning had to be replaced on the mound by Beau Brieske. The Tigers will take a look at Manning and provide more information in the near future, but he should be considered day-to-day until then.

Ryu (3-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings in a 5-2 loss against the Athletics. He struck out five.

Ryu pitched well Wednesday, but Carlos Perez's two-run homer in the fourth inning proved to be enough to stick the left-hander with a loss. Ryu has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start since his first outing of the year on Aug. 1. His ERA sits at 2.65 with a 1.06 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB through his first seven starts (34 innings) this season. Ryu's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Rangers in his next outing.

Sears (4-11) earned the win Wednesday, allowing a run on four hits and four walks over five innings in a 5-2 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out three.

Sears dealt with frequent traffic Wednesday, but he managed to hold Toronto to just one run through five innings, earning his second straight win. The 27-year-old Sears has now allowed just two runs in 11 innings over his last two outings after surrendering 13 runs in his prior two starts (10 innings). Overall, the southpaw sports a 4.51 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP and 141:43 K:BB across 28 starts (151.2 innings) this season. Sears is currently lined up for a tough road matchup with the Astros in his next outing.
