Allen (6-7) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on six hits and a walk over four innings as the Guardians were downed 8-3 by the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

The rookie left-hander got staked to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a Jose Ramirez solo shot, but he immediately squandered it, and Cleveland never recovered. It's the first time Allen hasn't lasted at least five innings since late June, and despite Saturday's stumble he sports a 3.80 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:17 K:BB through 45 innings since he rejoined the big-league rotation after the All-Star break. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, likely to come at home next weekend against the Rays.

Paxton did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks over 4.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out four.

The veteran lefty allowed individual runs in the first and fourth innings before a Max Muncy two-run homer chased Paxton from the game with one out in the fifth. This marks back-to-back starts in which he has failed to complete five innings, causing his second-half ERA to rise to 5.82 alongside a 1.66 WHIP across 38.2 innings. Paxton is currently projected to make a road start against the Royals next week.

Brown (10-9) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings against Detroit. He struck out nine.

Brown bounced back from a poor last start in which he surrendered six runs across 2.2 innings against Seattle to limit the Tigers to four hits on the day. He also notched his best strikeout total since May 26 (14 starts) and gave up just one extra-base hit. The 24-year-old has been very inconsistent as of late, giving up four or more runs in four of his last eight starts while yielding two in each of the other four. He's expected to toe the rubber against the Yankees next.

Rodriguez (9-7) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out one.

Rodriguez struggled to get through the Astros order and was unable to retire Alex Bregman specifically. In three at-bats against Rodriguez, Bregman collected a double, a two-run home run and a walk. The free pass was one of four dished out by Rodriguez, who set a season high in the category while tying his season-worst mark in strikeouts. The southpaw is tentatively scheduled to make his next start during a four-game home stand against the Yankees next week.

Toussaint (2-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings in a 6-2 victory over the Athletics. He struck out four.

After entering Saturday's contest with an 8.84 ERA and a 25:18 K:BB in August (18.1 innings), Toussaint held the A's scoreless across five frames. However, his control issues persisted, as he handed out three or more walks for a fifth consecutive appearance. Toussaint will have an opportunity to build on Saturday's strong performance, with the White Sox kicking off September with two series against the Tigers sandwiched around one versus the Royals.

Sears (2-11) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings against the White Sox. He struck out eight.

Though Sears went six innings for the first time since July 16 and turned in his best strikeout total since June 22, he fell to his 11th loss of the campaign and surrendered six runs. He struggled to keep the ball in the park, giving up a trio of home runs on the day, including solo home runs by Lenyn Sosa and Andrew Benintendi and a three-run shot by Yoan Moncada. Over his last two starts (10 innings) Sears has given up 13 runs and five home runs while holding a 12:4 K:BB. He's tentatively lined up to take on the Angels in his next outing.

Bradish (9-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over six innings against Colorado. He struck out eight.

Bradish collected his third consecutive quality start, fanning eight batters and surrendering a pair of runs Saturday. During those three appearances, Bradish boasts a 2-0 record to go along with a 2.00 ERA and a 23:3 K:BB. He'll look to keep the ball rolling in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come during a three-game road series against the D-Backs next week.

Ryan (groin) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Saturday.

Ryan missed just over three weeks with a groin strain, but he looked solid in his return. He threw 51 of 80 pitches for strikes, suggesting he may not have much of a workload restriction, if any, going forward. He struggled prior to the injury, but he's at a passable 4.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 159:27 K:BB through 131 innings over 23 starts for the year. Ryan is projected for a rematch with the Rangers in Texas next week.

Gilbert (12-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on two hits over seven innings against the Royals. He struck out seven and walked one.

Gilbert dominated the Royals on Saturday, needing just 83 pitches to complete seven dazzling innings in a blowout victory. The 26-year-old right-hander's only blemish came on a Drew Waters solo shot in the fifth inning. Gilbert has recorded a quality start in five of his last six outings, compiling a record of 4-0 with a 2.95 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB across 36.2 innings during that stretch. Gilbert is projected to make a road start against the Mets next week.

Lyles (3-15) took the loss Saturday, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks over three innings against Seattle. He struck out four.

The 32-year-old righty allowed all seven of his earned runs in the third inning on three homers, including a Teoscar Hernandez grand slam. This marks the shortest outing for Lyles since he allowed seven earned runs to Milwaukee in 2.1 innings on May 14. In eight second-half starts, the veteran is now 2-4 with a 6.70 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 28:10 K:BB across 45.2 innings. Lyles is projected to make his next start at home against the Red Sox.
