Brito was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Brito struggled in his start Saturday against the Reds, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over four innings. That pushed his season ERA and WHIP to 5.58 and 1.49, respectively, which prompted the Yankees to send him down. Brito's active roster spot and slot in the rotation will go to Luis Severino, who is slated to make his campaign debut Sunday after a lengthy stay on the injured list due to a lat injury. Given his 4.0 BB/9, one of Brito's primary goals while in the minors will likely be to improve his control.

Manoah did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over 5.2 innings during a 6-5 loss to the Orioles. He struck out five.

Manoah allowed two or fewer runs while completing at least five innings for the fifth time this season, but he still holds a 5.15 ERA and 1.74 WHIP due to a couple of poor outings. The right-hander's 40:33 K:BB over his first 10 starts (50.2 innings) is also worrisome after he posted a 180:51 K:BB over 196.2 innings last year. Either way, Saturday's outing was a step in the right direction, and Manoah will look to continue on that path in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for the finale of a four-game set in Tampa Bay.

Severino (lat) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Sunday's start against the Reds.

Severino will make his season debut for the Yankees on Sunday after he completed two rehab starts with Double-A Somerset. Over those contests, the right-hander surrendered three runs on eight hits while striking out six batters over 6.2 innings. Considering the fact that he didn't go past 3.1 frames in either start, Severino will likely be limited in his first major-league outing of 2023. Severino produced a 3.18 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 112 strikeouts over 102 innings in 19 starts last year, and moving forward could be a valuable fantasy asset once again this season.

Rodriguez did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over five frames during a 6-5 loss to Toronto in 10 innings. He struck out six.

Rodriguez bounced back Saturday after allowing eight runs over 3.1 innings in his previous outing versus the Angels. It was his fifth start of the year allowing two or fewer runs, as 23 of the rookie's 29 earned runs have come in just four of his nine appearances. Overall, he boasts an ugly 6.21 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, but his 50:18 K:BB across 42.0 innings remains encouraging. Rodriguez's next start is projected for the opener of a three-game weekend set versus Texas.

The Red Sox identified an issue with Whitlock's (elbow) changeup, and the pitcher has been able to work on it during his rehab, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Whitlock's changeup was a big pitch for him during his rookie 2021 season. The offering averaged 83.1 mph and opponents went 10-for-54 (.185) with one home run and one double against it. This year, the pitch is averaging 84.9 mph and opponents are 8-for-20 (.400) with two home runs and three doubles. "We noticed [the increased velocity] in Milwaukee before [the injury]. We were talking about it. And we were able to make adjustments. Obviously he had time to work on it. And he felt really, really good about the changeup in the last [rehab start]." Whitlock will make his final rehab start Sunday and is expected to slot back into Boston's rotation this coming weekend against the Diamondbacks.

Giolito (3-3) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk across six innings during a 5-1 win over the Royals. He struck out four.

Giolito tossed his sixth quality start of the year and picked up his third win Saturday. The veteran has finished at least six innings in eight straight starts and has allowed 15 runs on 38 hits with a 51:11 K:BB across 50.2 innings during that stretch. The right-hander will look to stay sharp in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for the opener of a three-game set in Detroit.

Lyles (0-8) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks over five innings during a 5-1 loss to the White Sox. He struck out five.

Lyles has allowed four or more earned runs in eight of his last nine starts and holds a 7.15 ERA across his first 56.2 innings with the Royals. The veteran's 1.34 WHIP is consistent with previous years and suggests he could turn a corner soon, but he's never been considered an ace. Despite the struggles, Lyles is locked into Kansas City's rotation for the foreseeable future after signing a two-year, $17 million deal this offseason.

DeGrom (elbow) will throw a third bullpen session Monday, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports.

DeGrom, who threw a couple light bullpen sessions last week, will throw a third Monday and could "possibly" throw to live hitters by the end of the week. The pitcher said it felt like he had turned a corner after Friday's session.

Faedo (0-2) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on five hits over five innings as the Tigers were tamed 5-2 by the Nationals. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Detroit gave the right-hander a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but Faedo couldn't make it stick, and the Tigers' offense went cold the rest of the way. He tossed 53 of 72 pitches for strikes before exiting but generated only four swinging strikes, and his return to the big-league rotation continues to be a mixed bag. Through three starts and 15.2 innings, Faedo has served up five homers to help inflate his 4.60 ERA, but impressive control has led to a 12:1 K:BB and a 0.83 WHIP. He'll look for his first win in his next outing, likely to come at home next week against the White Sox.

Gray (4-1) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over five innings in an 11-5 victory over the Rockies. He struck out six.

The right-hander wasn't particularly efficient in a matchup with his former club, needing 93 pitches (63 strikes) to barely qualify for the win, but the Rangers handed Gray an 8-0 lead after two innings and the outcome was never really in doubt. The 31-year-old has won three straight starts, giving up just two runs in 20 innings over that stretch with a 19:4 K:BB, and he'll try to stay locked in when he next takes the mound, which is likely to come in Baltimore next weekend.
