Montgomery (6-6) earned the win over Texas on Tuesday, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out six.

The right-hander fell just short of a quality start, but he limited the Rangers to only one extra-base hit and a single run on the scoreboard. Montgomery has allowed a combined two runs over his past two outings consisting of 11.1 innings, registering an 18:2 K:BB over the pair of contests. He has been perhaps the team's most consistent starter since the All-Star break, allowing three or fewer earned runs in 14 of 16 starts. His next appearance is tentatively lined up for Sunday at Boston.

The Yankees reinstated German (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Outfielder Estevan Florial was sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to open up a roster spot for German, who had been on the shelf since Aug. 1 with a right shoulder strain. German made a pair of two-inning rehab appearances with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to being activated, and he'll be rejoining New York in a bullpen role after having previously started in 18 of his 21 appearances on the season with the big club.

The Rays are planning on having Baz start in Sunday's series finale with the Marlins in Tampa Bay, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Unsurprisingly, Tampa Bay will have its top pitching prospect make another turn through the rotation after he impressed in his MLB debut Monday. While taking on a fearsome Toronto lineup, Baz captured the win while striking out five and walking none over five innings, with the only baserunners he allowed on the night coming on a pair of solo home runs. The Rays are expected to monitor Baz's workload carefully for what will likely be one or two starts in the regular season, but he should be a strong ratio stabilizer for fantasy mangers in the innings he provides the rest of the way.

Mize and the Tigers won't play Wednesday against the White Sox after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Although Mize was slated to start Wednesday's series finale against the White Sox, he'll now take the mound in Friday's series opener against Kansas City, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Across his last five starts, the right-hander has recorded a 3.32 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 19 innings.

Allard allowed five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over 4.1 relief innings in Tuesday's 7-1 loss to the Yankees.

Allard made a second consecutive outing as a piggyback starter, this one behind Dane Dunning, and suffered a similar fate as he did when following Glenn Otto on Sept. 16. The left-hander has allowed 10 runs on 11 hits (three home runs) and five walks over eight innings in his two piggyback appearances. With two additional long balls, Allard has served up 28 home runs over 119.2 innings (2.1 HR/9).

Blackburn (1-3) allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out five across four innings, taking the loss to the Mariners on Tuesday.

Blackburn surrendered a three-run fourth inning that included a pair of triples, while it took him 83 pitches to get through four innings. The 27-year-old has a 5.17 ERA and 1.60 WHIP with 23 strikeouts in 31.1 innings this season, though he's done a good job in the walks department, giving up one or zero in five of his seven starts this season. His next start is scheduled for Sunday against the Astros.

Gonzales (9-5) allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three across six innings in the win over the Athletics on Tuesday.

Gonzales surrendered a pair of solo home runs to Matt Olson and Starling Marte. However, he prevented any further damage, and he hasn't lost a start since July 3. In that stretch, he is 8-0 with a 2.72 WHIP and 1.01 ERA in 79.1 innings. The 29-year-old has cashed in eight quality starts in his last 10 outings.

Rodriguez allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five across 4.1 innings Tuesday against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.

Rodriguez turned in a decent performance from a run prevention and strikeout perspective. However, he was extremely inefficient and needed 92 pitches to record just 13 outs. As a result, he lost out on a chance to earn the win. Rodriguez has been frustratingly inconsistent across his last six starts. In that span, he's turned in three outings of 4.1 innings or fewer and posted a 10.03 ERA. On the other hand, he's turned in a quality start in the other three appearances and maintained a 1.89 ERA in those efforts.

Urquidy (8-3) allowed four earned runs on six hits while striking out three across 5.1 innings, getting the win over the Angels on Tuesday.

Urquidy surrendered home runs to Jack Mayfield and Phil Gosselin that accounted for all four runs allowed. However, the Astros provided enough run support to keep Urquidy in line for the win, and he still hasn't lost since June 15. The 26-year-old has a 3.56 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 81 punchouts in 96 innings this season.

Stripling is expected to pitch behind opener Julian Merryweather against the Rays on Wednesday, Gregor Chisholm of the Toronto Star reports.

Merryweather and Stripling are poised to fill the rotation spot of Hyun Jin Ryu (neck), who was placed on the injured list over the weekend. Stripling last pitched Friday and allowed a run over three innings, and he's thrown about 45 pitches in each of his last two outings, so he should have a similar workload Wednesday.
