The Yankees reinstated Montgomery (illness) from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of his scheduled start in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Red Sox.

Just as manager Aaron Boone said would be the case, Montgomery will slot back into the rotation this week after spending the past 13 days on the IL following his positive COVID-19 test. With catcher Gary Sanchez (illness) also activated ahead of the twin bill, the worst of the Yankees' minor outbreak of positive cases appears to be over, as Anthony Rizzo and Clay Holmes (illness) are the only players still residing on the COVID-19 IL. Montgomery's workload Tuesday could be restricted more than normal coming off the two-week layoff, but he should still line up for two starts this week. His second turn is expected to come Sunday versus the Twins in New York.

Montas (9-9) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings as the A's fell 5-2 to the White Sox. He struck out six.

He wasn't at his best and needed 99 pitches (60 strikes) to record 15 outs, but Montas also didn't get much run support. The outing snapped a string of six straight quality starts for the right-hander, and since the beginning of July, Montas boasts a 2.79 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 60:15 K:BB through 48.1 innings.

Keuchel (8-6) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings to grab the win over Oakland on Monday.

Keuchel survived a rocky second inning in which he allowed a home run, two walks and hit a batter, then watched the bullpen nail down the win with four scoreless innings. The left-hander had thrown just 79 pitches, but manager Tony La Russa, perhaps mindful of Keuchel's 11.77 ERA in the sixth inning, had Michael Kopech, Craig Kimbrel and Liam Hendriks finish up. The win was Keuchel's first in six starts since returning from the All-Star break. He'll lug a 5.13 second-half ERA into his next start, presumed to be Saturday on the road against the Rays.

Odorizzi allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in Monday's loss to Kansas City. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.

Odorizzi gave up three runs through the first three innings Monday, including two RBI base hits by Ryan O'Hearn. His night was over after Hunter Dozier took him deep for a solo shot in the sixth. He's given up at least three runs in five of his last six outings, bumping his season ERA up to 4.74 through 74 innings. Odorizzi is lined up to face the Mariners at home this weekend.

Quantrill allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings in Monday's loss to the Twins. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.

Quantrill began the game by serving up a leadoff shot to Max Kepler, the first homer he's allowed since July 27. He later allowed a run in each of the third and fourth innings. It was the first time in seven starts that he allowed more than two runs and his ERA rose slightly to 3.24. The 6-foot-3 righty owns a 1.76 ERA and a 37:14 K:BB over his last seven outings. Quantrill is projected to face the Angels at home this weekend.

Severino (elbow/groin) will receive a second opinion on his right shoulder in the coming days, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Severino underwent an MRI on Monday, but the Yankees haven't revealed the results. However, the right-hander wants to get insight from Dr. Neal ElAttrache before determining the next step in his recovery process. Severino had his rehab assignment paused after he was scratched from Friday's rehab start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and a better idea of his status will likely be known once he receives his second opinion.

Cole (11-6) allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out nine in 5.2 innings to earn the win Monday against the Angels.

Cole missed two weeks after testing positive for COVID-19, but he was sharp in his return to the mound Monday. He gave up a two-out homer in the top of the first inning but allowed just two baserunners across the next four frames. The righty tossed 90 pitches in the outing despite not making any rehab appearances prior to his return to the Yankees. Cole has been somewhat inconsistent across his last seven appearances, as he's posted a 3-3 record with a 4.81 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 39.1 innings during that time. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Twins on Saturday.

Suarez (5-6) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six in five innings to take the loss against the Yankees on Monday.

Suarez hadn't allowed fewer than three earned runs in any of his first four starts after the All-Star break, but he fared slightly better in Monday's outing. However, the southpaw was tagged with his sixth loss of the season in the low-scoring contest. Across his last five starts, Suarez has recorded a 6.12 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 25 innings. He tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Cleveland on Sunday.

Rodon (shoulder) felt good after throwing from 90 feet Monday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Rodon landed on the injured list with left shoulder fatigue Wednesday, but he was able to resume throwing several days later. The southpaw underwent an MRI on Sunday that came back clean, and he isn't expected to require a lengthy absence. The White Sox are hopeful that Rodon will be able to return to the rotation during the team's upcoming series against Toronto, which begins Aug. 23.

Kluber (shoulder) will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday to make a rehab start, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Kluber made his first rehab outing Thursday with Double-A Somerset and gave up five runs on two hits with four walks and one strikeout in 1.1 innings. He threw 45 pitches in that contest, and he should continue building up his workload as he moves up to Triple-A. The 35-year-old figures to require another rehab start or two beyond Tuesday before returning from the injured list.
