Springs (9-7) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings to earn the win over the Astros on Friday.

Springs received ample run support as the Athletics' offense unleashed a six-homer barrage, including four by rookie Nick Kurtz. Springs did well to never let the Astros get close, giving up just a two-run home run to Zack Short in the fifth inning. This was Springs' third quality start in his last four outings, a span in which he's surrendered 11 runs and four homers over 22.2 innings, though he has a 16:2 K:BB in that span. Overall, the southpaw is at a 4.13 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 95:39 K:BB through 120 innings over 22 appearances (20 starts this season). He's lined up for a home start versus the Mariners next week.

Houser (6-2) picked up the win Friday against the Cubs, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out three.

With the White Sox putting up multiple runs in four of the first five innings, Houser was cruising along until the seventh inning. The veteran right-hander still managed to post his ninth quality start in 11 outings, and he continues to be a pleasant surprise since joining Chicago's rotation in late May. Houser holds a 2.10 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 47:22 K:BB across 68.2 innings, and his expiring contract makes him a logical trade candidate ahead of Thursday's deadline. He's currently projected to next take the hill at home in a tough spot versus the Phillies.

Matthews (2-2) earned the win against the Nationals on Friday, allowing two hits while striking out seven across six scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk.

Matthews was dominant in his first quality start of the season, limiting the Nationals to just three baserunners while generating 12 whiffs and seven groundballs on 81 pitches (54 strikes). It was his second start since being reinstated from the 15-day injured list July 19, and while he's had his struggles in the majors this season, Friday's outing lowered his numbers to a 4.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 29 innings. Even with Bailey Ober (hip) nearing a return from the injured list, Matthews should stay in the Twins' rotation after David Festa (shoulder) landed on the 15-day IL on Wednesday. Matthews is slated to make his next start against the Guardians on the road next weekend.

Kremer did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings.

Kremer was given an early 4-0 lead before allowing five runs, including two homers, across the third and fourth innings. It continued an up-and-down year for the 29-year-old, who's held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 21 starts but has also allowed five or more earned runs seven times. He'll carry a 4.23 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 99:32 K:BB over 121.1 innings into a home matchup with the red-hot Blue Jays next week.

Wacha will not make his scheduled start against the Guardians on Friday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Friday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, and Wacha will start in Game 1 at 2:40 p.m. ET, per Anne Rogers of MLB.com. The veteran right-hander is coming off a quality start in his last outing against the Marlins this past Saturday, and he sports a 3.62 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 85:34 K:BB across 112 innings this season.

Williams will not pitch against the Royals on Friday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Friday's game will be made up Saturday as part of a doubleheader, and Williams will likely take the mound in one of those games. The 25-year-old right-hander has logged a quality start in two of his last three outings and has a 3.54 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 106:58 K:BB across 104.1 innings this season.

Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that there's "probably a good chance" Gil (lat) will make another rehab start before being activated from the injured list, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.

Gil is feeling good after making his third rehab start Wednesday, when he threw 3.1 innings at Double-A Somerset. Still, the Yankees are considering keeping GIl on assignment for another start. The 26-year-old hasn't pitched in an MLB game this season due to a high-grade lat strain.

Sandoval (elbow) has gone from throwing bullpen sessions to just playing catch and is doubtful to pitch this season, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Sandoval's rehab from internal brace surgery on his left (pitching) elbow has slowed, and it sounds like the 28-year-old won't pitch in a game until 2026. He remains on the 60-day injured list. Sandoval inked a two-year, $18.25 million deal with Boston last winter. He should contend for a spot in the rotation next spring.

The Astros placed Walter on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to July 24, due to left elbow inflammation.

Walter threw seven innings in a start Wednesday, but his arm didn't recover as expected, and he'll require a stint on the injured list. Houston recalled reliever Nick Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move, but it's unclear who will take Walter's spot in the rotation.

Garcia (elbow) struck out two over two perfect innings in his latest rehab start Saturday for Single-A Fayetteville.

After making two rehab starts in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, Garcia reported to a full-season affiliate last weekend. The Astros have been easing the right-hander along in his rehab, as he's covered exactly two innings in each of his three starts while giving up one earned run and posting a 9:0 K:BB. Per MLB.com, Garcia is slated to make his next start Sunday with Double-A Corpus Christi, though it's unclear if the Astros plan on having him increase his workload.
