Schmidt (elbow) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Wednesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

The 25-year-old has been throwing off a mound for the past few weeks, and he's now been cleared to face live hitters. Schmidt hasn't pitched this season while recovering from an elbow strain he suffered in spring training, so he's likely still a ways off from potentially rejoining the Yankees as he builds his arm back up.

Houck won't start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

The young righty was expected to start Wednesday's series finale, but Garrett Richards will instead take the mound after Tuesday's contest was postponed. Houck should start again at some point for the Red Sox this season, though for now it appears he'll continue working out of the bullpen.

Kaprielian (5-3) earned the win Tuesday after holding the Angels scoreless across six frames. He allowed five hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven.

The 27-year-old has now tossed at least five innings in eight straight starts, and he's given up three or fewer runs in each of those outings. Thanks to his recent success, the right-hander has compiled a 2.65 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across 68 innings this season. It's unclear how the A's intend to handle his workload, as Kaprielian has now matched his highest innings total in pro ball, which came in 2019 following Tommy John surgery.

Suarez (4-3) was charged with the loss against the A's on Tuesday after allowing four runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four across 5.2 innings.

Suarez held the A's to a single run across the first five frames, which came on a solo homer by Matt Olson. The southpaw eventually unraveled in the sixth, allowing three more runs, including a two-run double by Ramon Laureano. The 23-year-old didn't quite stretch out as far as the season-high 88 pitches from his last outing; he tossed 73 (with 49 strikes) this time around. Suarez will take a 2.85 ERA and 1.12 WHIP into his next projected start Monday against Colorado.

Dunn (shoulder) will resume throwing off a mound in approximately five days, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Dunn has been sidelined since mid-June with a right shoulder strain. He began a throwing program in early July and is now close to tossing a bullpen session. If all goes well in his initial sessions throwing off the mound, the next step for the right-hander figures to be a minor-league rehab assignment.

Manoah (back) is only expected to miss one turn in the rotation, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Manoah hit the injured list Monday with a bruised back that he suffered after slipping on the dugout steps. He felt fine after playing catch, so he should be ready to return after a minimum-length stay. Thomas Hatch will start in his absence Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Means (shoulder) was activated off the 10-day injured list Tuesday ahead of his scheduled start against the Rays.

Means was brilliant in his first eight starts, cruising to a 1.21 ERA and 0.71 WHIP and recording a no-hitter against the Mariners. He struggled to a 5.21 ERA over his next four starts, then hit the injured list with a shoulder strain in early June. He's ready to go again following a trio of rehab outings, but he might not be able to pitch very deep into Tuesday's contest, as none of those rehab appearances lasted longer than three innings. Ryan McKenna was optioned in a corresponding move.

Turnbull (forearm) will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of 2021, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The righty's injury was initially diagnosed as a forearm strain, but it turned out to be a torn UCL. Turnbull was enjoying a career-best campaign before going on the IL, starting nine games and posting a 2.88 ERA in 50 innings. He also threw a no-hitter, of course. Turnbull's 2022 season is in doubt as well, with the best-case scenario having him back with the Tigers late in the year. Once healthy, the 28-year-old figures to rejoin Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning as the foundation of Detroit's promising young rotation.

Rasmussen fired two scoreless innings in a loss to the Orioles on Monday, allowing a walk and recording two strikeouts.

The right-hander has now worked three straight two-inning assignments, and he's logged that workload in four of his last five trips to the mound overall. Rasmussen is building back some trust after stumbles in consecutive outings June 30 and July 5, as he's bounced back to allow just a single earned run with a 7:1 K:BB over six innings in his last three appearances.

The Royals placed Singer on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to right shoulder fatigue, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Singer's move to the IL comes just a few days after he was lit up for seven runs over two innings en route to taking a loss to the Orioles. The young righty hasn't won any of his last eight starts and has posted a 5.24 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over that span. In addition to Singer, the Royals also placed another rotation member, Danny Duffy (elbow), on the 10-day IL ahead of Tuesday's game against the Brewers. Due to a pair of off days this week, the Royals could elect to get by with a four-man rotation for the time being, with long reliever Kris Bubic presumably moving from the bullpen to pick up a start this weekend against the Tigers.
