The Red Sox recalled Tolle from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Tolle will start Thursday's game against the rival Yankees in place of the injured Sonny Gray (hamstring). The left-hander has logged a 3.00 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB across 15 innings in his first three starts for Worcester this season. There's a good chance Tolle will get an additional start or two for the Red Sox while Gray recuperates.

Manager A.J. Hinch said Verlander's (hip) bullpen session Wednesday was "encouraging," Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

"I think the last time I tried to really step on it, I don't want to say it was a full step back, but it didn't respond the way I wanted or that anybody wanted," Verlander said. "So that was disappointing. After yesterday, it didn't do that, which is good. It's taken a little longer than I think we expected, which is frustrating." Verlander has missed his last four turns through the rotation due to inflammation in his left hip, and it hasn't responded the way he'd hoped after he was initially believed to require only a minimum stint on the injured list. Verlander is expected to need at least one more bullpen session and a rehab start before making his return to Detroit's rotation.

Astros general manager Dana Brown said Wednesday in an interview on SportsTalk 790 that the teams has had internal conversations about stretching Teng back out to be used as a starting pitcher.

Teng has been terrific as a multi-inning reliever for the Astros, posting a 1.65 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB over 16.1 innings. The 27-year-old has plenty of past starting experience, though his control problems (12.2 percent walk rate in the majors, 11.5 percent walk rate in the minors) suggest he might be best off remaining in the bullpen.

Yesavage (shoulder) could make another rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo before coming off the injured list, Max Ralph of MLB.com reports.

The 22-year-old right-hander built up to 64 pitches in his most recent outing Tuesday but was far from sharp, giving up four runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks over 2.1 innings while striking out two. The Blue Jays would like Yesavage to reach about 75 pitches before adding him to the big-league rotation. If he remains at Buffalo for another turn, Patrick Corbin and Eric Lauer will each get another chance to state their case for remaining in the rotation once Yesavage is activated.

Corbin may not be the pitcher bumped from the rotation when Trey Yesavage (shoulder) comes off the IL, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

The veteran southpaw has been surprisingly effective in three starts since being added to an injury-depleted Blue Jays rotation, delivering a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB over 14.2 innings. During that same stretch, Eric Lauer has a 7.63 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 10:8 K:BB over 15.1 innings in his three outings. Lauer also has more experience pitching out of the bullpen, although manager John Schneider curiously described Corbin as "versatile" last week despite the fact that 236 of his last 237 big-league appearances dating back to 2018 have been starts. Yesavage built up to 64 pitches in his latest rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday and likely needs at least one more outing before he's ready to come off the IL, so Schneider may be able to hold off deciding which of the two lefties stays in the rotation until early May.

Berrios (elbow) struck out five over four shutout innings Wednesday in a rehab start with Single-A Dunedin. He scattered three hits and didn't issue a walk.

Per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic, Berrios topped out at 94.6 miles per hour and averaged 93.5 mph with his fastball, a tick above his average from the 2025 season. Berrios now has two outings under his belt with Dunedin and will likely join a higher-level affiliate for his next start as he continues to get stretched back out after opening the season on the shelf due to a minor stress fracture in his elbow. The right-hander tossed 55 pitches Wednesday, so he may need two more starts in the minors before potentially returning from the injured list and joining the Toronto rotation.

Prielipp didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mets. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six across four innings.

Prielipp tossed 52 of his 82 pitches for strikes in his major-league debut, but he gave up runs in the first and fourth innings via an RBI single from Francisco Lindor (calf) and an RBI double from Francisco Alvarez. With Mick Abel (elbow) sidelined, Prielipp could stay in the Twins' rotation for more than one start. If that's the case, he tentatively lines up to make his next start next week at home against the Mariners.

Winn (0-1) took the loss against Pittsburgh on Wednesday, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out one over one-third of an inning.

Winn entered the ninth inning of a 4-4 game and gave up hits to the first two batters before allowing a run on a fielder's choice. The rest of the damage came after he was removed, as Jalen Beeks surrendered a three-run shot to Oneil Cruz. Winn is part of the Rangers' late-game crew but has recently hit a rough patch; he's allowed three runs in two of his last four outings. After a scoreless 7.2 innings to start the season, Winn has pitched to a 16.20 ERA over 3.1 subsequent frames.

The Red Sox will recall Tolle from Triple-A Worcester to start Thursday's game against the Yankees at Fenway Park, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Tolle will be entering the rotation in place of Sonny Gray, who was placed on the 15-day injured list after straining his hamstring in Monday's win over the Tigers. During his first taste of the big leagues late last season, Tolle made seven appearances (three starts) but struggled to the tune of a 6.06 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 16.1 innings. He seems to have bounced back nicely in Triple-A so far in 2026, logging a 3.00 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through 15 frames, and he'll now get another chance to show what he can do in the majors. If Tolle performs well, he'll likely remain with the Red Sox until Gray returns from the IL.

Fried (3-1) notched the win Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing no runs on three hits and two walks in eight innings. He struck out nine.

The All-Star southpaw had his entire arsenal working in a gem, fanning a season-high nine in his third scoreless start of the campaign. Fried has done an outstanding job of providing length for the Yankees to begin 2026, working at least 6.1 frames in all but one of his first five starts thus far. Fried boasts a 2.40 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB over 41.1 innings, and he next sets up to face a Rangers team that's struggled against southpaws to the tune of a .582 OPS versus left-handing pitching this season.
