Chirinos (elbow) was transferred to the 45-day injured list in order to make room for Sean Gilmartin on the team's active roster, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

After finding out Chirinos would need Tommy John surgery Friday, the Rays decided to place him on the 45-day injured list. This move is just to open up another active roster spot as Chirinos' season was already confirmed to have been over.

According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Schmidt has been impressive at the team's alternate training site, but his current absence from the 40-man roster could impact the decision to call him up to the majors, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

With James Paxton (forearm) and Luis Avilan (shoulder) placed on the injured list Friday, the Yankees have a sudden need for both a starting pitcher and a reliever to fill their spots. However, Boone mentioned Michael King, Nick Nelson and Jonathan Loaisiga as potential replacements for Paxton while suggesting that Schmidt's path could be complicated by a corresponding 40-man roster move that would need to be made if the prized prospect is called up. Schmidt has pitched only three games above Class A ball, but he has recently been getting stretched out to a starter's workload at the Yankees' alternate training site.

Springs, along with Robert Stock, were recalled from the Red Sox's alternate training site Saturday to take the spots of Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Workman and Hembree were traded to the Phillies on Friday, which opened up a few spots on the team's 28-man roster. Springs struggled in relief earlier in the season -- he gave up eight runs in 4.2 innings -- and figures to only appear in low-leverage situations for the Red Sox.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that Paxton (forearm) won't throw for the next two weeks, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Paxton was diagnosed with a flexor strain and then promptly placed on the 10-day injured list Friday. It appears as though the southpaw will have to spend more than the minimum time on the shelf as he won't be allowed to throw for the next 14 days and will most likely have to go through the proper buildup before making an official return to the mound.

Means (0-2) allowed three runs on four hits -- including two home runs -- while striking out two batters in three innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday.

It's been a rough first couple of outings for Means, who still hasn't found his groove just yet after posting a 3.60 ERA across 155 innings in 2019. The southpaw gave up a solo shot to Xander Bogaerts to open up the second frame and followed that up by gifting J.D. Martinez a two-run shot to center in the third. Means has now given up 12 runs in 10.2 innings this season and isn't racking up many strikeouts to help his case. He figures to next take the mound Thursday in a clash with the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays.

Keuchel (4-2) allowed one run on six hits and one walk while striking out three to pick up the win over the Cubs on Friday.

Keuchel was well supported as the White Sox belted six home runs in the 10-1 win, but the left-hander didn't need much to lead them to their sixth straight win. It was Keuchel's longest outing of the season -- 114 pitches -- and third quality start, dropping his ERA to 2.65. Keuchel will aim for his fifth win next Wednesday at home against the worst team in baseball, the Pirates.

McCullers (2-2) gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings in a loss to the Padres on Friday. He struck out two.

McCullers wasn't particularly sharp, and the Padres took advantage of that to grind out runs in three of the five innings he worked. The right-hander has a 5.74 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 31.1 innings this season. He's limited opponents to two runs or fewer in just three of his six starts. McCullers lines up for a home start versus the Angels on Wednesday.

Heaney (1-2) was charged with the loss against the A's on Friday after surrendering five runs on six hits and a pair of walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings.

Most of Heaney's damage came in the first inning on a home run to Marcus Semien and a two-run double to Stephen Piscotty. From there, the 29-year-old held the A's in check until he unraveled again in the fifth inning, during which he gave up back-to-back doubles to Mark Canha and Matt Olson before he was replaced with Mike Mayers. Heaney has now allowed four or more earned runs in three consecutive starts. He'll look to bounce back Wednesday at Houston.

Allard (0-2) was charged with the loss against the Mariners on Friday, surrendering four runs on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out one and recording only two outs.

It was a disaster of an outing for Allard, who failed to escape the first inning. It took the southpaw 38 pitches to record two outs before he was finally replaced with Wes Benjamin. His performance was especially disappointing after allowing six runs in three innings against the Rockies his last time out. Allard now owns a forgettable 7.82 ERA and 1.82 WHIP and will look to rebound Wednesday against Oakland.

Odorizzi was diagnosed with an abdominal contusion following Friday's loss to the Royals, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Odorizzi labored through his start Friday, allowing five runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out one over three innings prior to being hit by a line drive. He was charged with the loss as a result of the performance. Odorizzi said that he had the wind knocked out of him after being hit, but whether he'll be forced to miss any additional time remains to be seen. The right-hander now carries an 8.10 ERA over 10 innings across his first three starts this year.
