Kirby has been hitting the upper 90s with his fastball during simulated games at the Mariners' alternate training site in Tacoma, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

The news comes via general manager Jerry Dipoto, who relayed updates on several of the organization's top prospects during a radio interview Thursday. Kirby was impressive at short-season Everett last season (2.35 ERA, 25:0 K:BB across 23 innings) after his selection in the first round of the first-year player draft, and with no minor-league season this year, he's at least getting valuable development time in at Tacoma.

Chirinos was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with right triceps inflammation, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear when Chirinos picked up the injury or how long it will keep him sidelined, though he'll be eligible to return Aug. 13 should he prove ready. Trevor Richards, who was added to the roster in a corresponding move, is a candidate to start in place of Chirinos on Saturday.

Turnbull is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Pirates, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

After their four-game series with the Cardinals to begin the week was postponed due to COVID-19-related concerns, the Tigers will reorder their pitching schedule heading into the weekend set in Pittsburgh. Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire will roll out his top three starters in the series, with Matthew Boyd and Ivan Nova going Friday and Saturday, respectively, before Turnbull takes the hill for the finale.

Keller (illness) was activated ahead of his start Thursday against the Cubs, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

He has been unable to make his 2020 debut prior to this outing due to a positive COVID-19 test. It is unclear how stretched out Keller is, but for those in mixed leagues, it would be best to see how he looks in this first outing before deploying him. He will have another tough matchup on tap next week in Cincinnati.

The Rangers optioned Farrell to their alternate training site Thursday.

Farrell showed the ability to make bats miss with six strikeouts in his three appearances out of the Texas bullpen, but he looked rough otherwise, giving up five runs on five hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. With the Rangers needing to reduce their active roster from 30 to 28 men ahead of Thursday's deadline, Farrell's demotion doesn't come as a major surprise.

Kaprielian was optioned to Oakland's alternate training site Thursday, John Hickey of SI.com reports.

The A's needed to trim the roster from 30 players to 28 on Thursday, and Kaprielian unfortunately gets dispatched without getting the opportunity to make his MLB debut. Manager Bob Melvin said the A's see Kaprielian as a potentially impactful long-term piece, but he has been limited to organizational depth duties so far this season. It's possible he could make a spot start later in the summer.

Odorizzi (back) will come off the injured list to start Saturday's game at Kansas City, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

He was expected to be on track for a weekend activation and it sounds like his latest side session went off without a hitch. The Twins haven't indicated how deep Odorizzi will be able to go in the outing, but he draws a strong fantasy matchup on paper for what will be his season debut.

Gonzales (2-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Angels after giving up three runs on three hits -- all of them home runs -- while striking out seven across seven innings.

Gonzales allowed homers to Max Stassi in the third, and both David Fletcher and Mike Trout in the sixth, but he was excellent the rest of the way while posting his second straight quality start. The long ball has been an issue early in the season, however, as he has already given up four homers in just 17.2 innings. That's an area where he needs to improve ahead of his next start, scheduled for Aug. 11 against the Rangers on the road.

Teheran (0-1) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Mariners. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while fanning two across 2.2 innings.

Teheran was built up to around 60 pitches and tossed 52 (33 strikes), so he was unlikely to go deep into the game regardless of how good he could have looked on the mound. He will try to deliver a better showing in his upcoming start, scheduled for Aug. 10 at home against the Athletics.

Farrell allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out two over one inning in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to Oakland.

Farrell was talked up during a scoreless spring training and summer camp as a potential impact reliever, but the right-hander has allowed runs in all three appearances thus far. He's given up five runs on five hits, four walks, a hit batter and two wild pitches over 3.1 innings.
