Sale (elbow) is expected to resume throwing early in the offseason, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

A shaky season saw Sale record a 4.40 ERA before being shut down for elbow inflammation in mid-August, though that number came with a 3.39 FIP, a 2.94 xFIP and a 35.6 percent strikeout rate. If he is indeed able to resume throwing early in the offseason, that would seem to bode well for his readiness for the start of the 2020 campaign.

Odorizzi is slated to start Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Odorizzi returns to the mound on his standard four days rest, despite covering only two innings in his last appearance Friday against the Indians before thunderstorms in Cleveland resulted in the game's postponement. Since being blown up for a season-high nine runs July 24 versus the Yankees, Odorizzi has rebounded impressively. He's posted a 3.05 ERA and 54:15 K:BB in 44.1 innings over his last eight starts, racking up three more wins along the way.

Civale is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Civale is technically returning to the mound on his normal four days' rest, even though the three innings he covered Friday against the Twins won't count on his season ledger after the game was postponed. After Wednesday's outing, Civale will tentatively line up for two starts in the season's final week, though it's possible manager Terry Francona uses the Sept. 23 off day to bump ace Mike Clevinger ahead of the rookie in the pitching order.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Boyd (personal) is penciled in to start Sunday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Boyd left the team Monday to tend to a family issue in Seattle, forcing Detroit to break in reliever Zac Reininger as a spot starter for Tuesday's bullpen game against Cleveland. Though he remains away from the team, the southpaw apparently intends to return to Detroit at some point over the weekend, leaving him on track to make his next turn through the rotation. After a banner first half, Boyd has stumbled as the season nears the finish line, posting a 6.81 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over his last seven starts.

Perez didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-innings win over the White Sox, giving up three runs on 10 hits over 4.2 innings while striking out four.

The lefty got the hook after throwing 64 pitches (45 strikes), but Perez actually did a reasonable job of avoiding hard contact -- only one of the 10 hits by Chicago went for extra bases, and none left the yard. He'll carry a 4.92 ERA and 129:64 K:BB through 157.1 innings into his next outing Sunday, at home against the Royals.

Snell did not factor into the decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday, pitching two perfect innings and striking out four.

Snell showed little rust from his nearly two-month absence, tossing 17 of 26 pitches for strikes and whiffing four of the six batters he faced. The abbreviated outing was a positive step for the southpaw as he looks to build stamina in anticipation of a possible Tampa Bay playoff run. The 2018 AL Cy Young Award winner has posted a 4.19 ERA and 1.22 WHIP along with a 6-7 record in 21 starts this season. He'll likely be on a short leash again when he squares off against the Red Sox on Monday.

Lynn (14-11) took the loss against the Astros on Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one as the Rangers eventually fell 4-1.

Lynn served up three long balls, but luckily they were all solo shots, allowing him to limit the total damage against him to four earned runs and work seven innings for a second straight start. The right-hander continues to be a workhorse starter for the Rangers, sporting a 3.77 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and excellent 224:57 K:BB across 195.2 innings. He lines up to take on the Athletics for his next start in a road matchup Sunday.

Verlander (19-6) picked up the win against the Rangers on Tuesday, throw six scoreless innings while giving up four hits, striking out eight and walking two in a 4-1 victory for the Astros.

Verlander's torrid season continues, with this latest suffocating effort on the mound giving him quality starts in 11 out of his last 13 outings and moving him one victory away from his first 20-win season since 2011. The AL Cy Young frontrunner's numbers are simply ridiculous, with Verlander sporting a 2.50 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and lights-out 283:40 K:BB across 212 innings.

Gonzales (16-11) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing six hits with zero walks and four strikeouts to earn a victory against the Pirates on Tuesday.

This was arguably Gonzales' best start since April, as it was the first time he didn't yield a run or walk since April 25. Gonzales' numbers are about average across the board, but he's been involved in a lot of decisions, leading to 16 wins and 11 losses. He could finish Top 5 in the American League in wins despite owning an ERA above 4.00. Gonzales, who will pitch next at the Orioles on Sunday, has a 4.14 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 139 strikeouts in 189 innings this season.

Eovaldi allowed five earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six across four innings Tuesday against the Giants. He did not factor into the decision.

Eovaldi surrendered two solo home runs and was sunk by a general lack of command. Notably, he walked two of the first three batters he faced to begin the third frame, resulting in a three-run inning. The Red Sox were trailing 4-1 when he exited the contest, but Eovaldi was bailed out by run support to avoid a losing decision. He had pitched fairly well entering Tuesday's contest, allowing only seven earned runs across his prior 16.1 frames, but Eovaldi still owns a 5.81 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 52.2 innings for the season. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for Sunday at Tampa Bay.
