  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Takes loss Thursday

Berrios (8-5) allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two across five innings to take the loss Thursday against the Athletics.

Berrios battled out of trouble starting in the third inning but did a decent job of preventing runs. Things unraveled a bit for him in the fifth frame however, as he allowed a leadoff homer and then loaded the bases prior to inducing a double play to limit the damage. This was Berrios' shortest outing of the season, so the relatively poor showing shouldn't raise major concerns. He enters the All-Star break with a strong 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP while striking out 104 batters across 117 innings.

  • Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA

Rays' Yonny Chirinos: Logs another solid start

Chirinos didn't factor into the decision against the Yankees on Thursday, giving up three earned runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one in the Rays' 8-4 extra-inning defeat.

The right-hander continued his strong first half of the season with a sixth straight quality start, needing 101 pitches to make it through seven frames against a tough Yankees lineup. Through 100 innings, Chirinos has emerged as a key component of Tampa Bay's staff, as he's now boasting a 3.15 ERA, an impressive 0.99 WHIP and an 81:22 K:BB.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mariners' Tommy Milone: Falls to 1-3

Milone (1-3) took the loss as the primary pitcher against the Cardinals on Thursday, giving up five earned runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings, striking out four and walking one in the Mariners' 5-4 defeat.

The left-hander has pitched well in the bulk reliever role this season, but he was roughed up by the Cardinals in this contest, with long balls from Matt Wieters and Dexter Fowler accounting for three of the five runs against him. It was a tough outing, but Milone's numbers on the season still look good overall, as he's sporting a 3.56 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 44:10 K:BB through 48 innings.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matthew Boyd: Strikes out 13 in win

Boyd (6-6) picked up the win Thursday against the White Sox despite allowing four runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out 13 and did not walk a batter.

Boyd allowed a two-run homer to Jose Rondon in the fourth and another to Eloy Jimenez in the sixth, raising his ERA to a still respectable 3.87. The 13 strikeouts, however, tied a season high. Boyd's strikeout rate now sits at 32.0 percent, an incredible jump from his previous career high of 22.4 percent.

  • Royals' Daniel Lynch: Resumes throwing

Lynch (arm) recently started a throwing program, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Lynch has been sidelined with the arm soreness since early June and is beginning his rehab work after receiving some required rest. The 22-year-old will need some time to rebuild his arm strength before returning to the starting rotation for High-A Wilmington.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Scratched Thursday

Stroman (pectoral) will not start Thursday against the Red Sox, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Manager Charlie Montoyo suggested Wednesday that Stroman could get scratched, and that has indeed happened after Stroman left his last start early with a pectoral cramp. Thomas Pannone has been recalled and will pitch the bulk of the innings against Boston. There's a chance Stroman starts a game against Baltimore this weekend, but nothing is official.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mariners' Tommy Milone: Working as bulk reliever

Milone will serve as the Mariners' bulk reliever in Thursday's game against the Cardinals, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

He'll be following Matt Carasiti, who is only expected to work the first inning before turning the game over to Milone. Milone has been used as a bulk reliever in three of his past four turns, delivering a 2.82 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB in 22.1 innings over that span.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Strikes out five

Gibson gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out five through six innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Wednesday.

Gibson gave up a three-run home run in the second inning and struggled with his command, but he also delivered a quality start to keep the Twins in the game. After being used out of the bullpen during an 18-inning contest in his last appearance, Gibson had eight days between starts and didn't appear to have many problems with the extra rest. The right-hander has an 8-4 record with a 4.13 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP heading into the All-Star break.

  • Domingo German SP | PIT

Yankees' Domingo German: Notches 10th victory

German (10-2) earned the win Wednesday against the Mets after giving up one run on five hits across six innings. He had six strikeouts and didn't issue a walk.

German served up a home run to Jeff McNeil on the first pitch of the game, but he quickly settled in and silenced the Mets the rest of the evening. The 26-year-old needed only 80 pitches Wednesday, and he likely would have worked deeper into the game were it not his first start off the injured list. German will enter the All-Star break with a 3.67 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 83:19 K:BB over 76 innings.

  • Jesus Luzardo SP | PHI

Athletics' Jesus Luzardo: Out with Grade 2 strain

Luzardo was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left lat strain after undergoing an MRI on Wednesday.

Luzardo exited Tuesday's rehab start after four innings due to left lat tightness and received some troubling news from Wednesday's MRI. The 21-year-old was expected to join the Athletics shortly after the All-Star break, but he's now facing an extended absence with no official timetable for his return.
