  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rangers' Drew Smyly: Walks four in no-decision

Smyly allowed two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks across four innings during a no-decision against the Cardinals on Sunday.

The lefty has experienced control issues all season, and while he did only allow two runs, that was true again in this one. With his four free passes, Smyly raised his BB/9 to an astonishing 6.5. Of course, that's not his only problem, as he also owns a 2.0 HR/9 and 5.96 FIP. Overall, Smyly is 0-3 with a 6.51 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 31 strikeouts in 27.2 innings this year. He will next look to finally get his first win during a visit to the Angels on Saturday.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Astros' Wade Miley: Surrenders two earned runs

Miley allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out two across five innings Sunday against the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Miley and his defense were sloppy in the first inning with an error by Alex Bregman and a wild pitch combining to allow an unearned run across the plate. Miley rebounded to allow only three singles in his next three innings but was touched up in the fifth frame for two earned runs on a home run by Michael Chavis and RBI single by Xander Bogaerts. Overall, Miley managed to limit the damage in a tough matchup, though he fell short of six innings for only the second time in his last seven starts. He'll look to work deeper into the game in his next start, though he's currently scheduled to face Boston at home on Friday.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Labors through Sunday's start

Sale allowed three runs on four hits and five walks while striking out 10 across 5.1 innings Sunday against the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

Sale continued to rack up strikeouts, but his control failed him as he worked inefficiently. He began only 12 of 26 batters he faced with a strike and needed 106 pitches to record 16 outs. While the Astros present a tough matchup, much of the damage was self-inflicted: One of Sale's earned runs came on a wild pitch, and the other two crossed on on a home run by Carlos Correa. While this outing wasn't a disaster, it was a step back from Sale's previous form. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, currently scheduled for Friday at Houston.

  • White Sox's Odrisamer Despaigne: Gets MiLB deal from White Sox

Despaigne signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Sunday and was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Despaigne will provide the White Sox with some much-needed starting depth after two members of the big-league rotation (Carlos Rodon and Manny Banuelos) were recently placed on the 10-day injured list. Chicago is expected to promote a pitcher from Charlotte on Monday when Banuelos' turn comes up, so Despaigne will be plugged into the Triple-A rotation as a replacement.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Posts 15-strikeout shutout

Bieber (3-2) gave up five hits while striking out 15 in a complete-game shutout win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Bieber induced 27 swinging strikes out of his 107 pitches to stifle the Orioles to record his third win. After allowing five runs and four home runs in his last start, he delivered a masterful performance for his fourth quality start in his last five outings. The 23-year-old has a 3-2 record with a 3.22 ERA through nine starts this season. Bieber will make his next start Friday against the Rays.

  • Nestor Cortes SP | PHI

Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Goes four innings

Cortes gave up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six through four innings of relief work against the Yankees on Sunday.

Cortes came into the game in the second inning after opener Chad Green allowed two runs in 1.2 innings to begin the game. Cortes received 16 called strikes on his way to six strikeouts, but he also allowed three runs in only four innings of work. Cortes has a 9.00 ERA and a 9:2 K:BB through six innings.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Rays' Charlie Morton: Inefficient in no-decision

Morton gave up five runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out six through four innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Sunday.

Morton was ineffective and inefficient, throwing 88 pitches in only four innings and giving up five runs. Walks continue to be a problem: Over the last month, he has an impressive 10.5 K/9 but also a 3.7 BB/9. Morton will be looking to get back on track in his next start Friday at the Indians.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mariners' Tommy Milone: Likely candidate for callup

Milone, who owns a 4-2 record, 3.38 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 49.1 innings at Triple-A Tacoma, is a likely candidate for a promotion to start Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

The veteran southpaw is already in line to make his next trip to the mound at Tacoma on Tuesday, lending further credence to the notion he could get the nod. Milone would have to be added to the 40-man roster in order to be promoted, as he originally signed with the Mariners on a minor-league deal. The other alternative would be for manager Scott Servais to go with a bullpen day, with the final decision likely coming within the next 24 hours.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Closing in on rehab assignment

Manager Terry Francona said Clevinger (back) would complete two or three more bullpen sessions during the upcoming week before beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Clevinger has hit no snags thus far in his recovery from an upper-back strain, which he sustained in early April. Though his initial projected recovery timetable didn't call for him to resume throwing a baseball until late May, Clevinger has already advanced to mound work. After throwing 20 pitches in a bullpen session a few days earlier, Clevinger will presumably ratchet up the intensity of his subsequent sessions while incorporating his full arsenal. Assuming all goes well, the Indians will map out a rehab schedule that will put Clevinger on track to return from the 60-day injured list on or shortly after June 7, when he's first eligible for activation.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Yankees' James Paxton: Needs another bullpen session

Paxton said he still felt some inflammation in his left knee during his bullpen session Sunday, Coley Harvey of ESPN.com reports. He'll throw off a mound again Tuesday before the Yankees determine his next step.

Paxton completed approximately 20 throws during Sunday's session and was able to mix in his full arsenal. Though Paxton noted that his condition has improved, the Yankees may want the southpaw to complete a side session without any lingering pain before activating him from the 10-day injured list. If Paxton fares well Tuesday, he could return from the IL later in the week without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand.
