  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Pitches well in no-decision

Bieber allowed one run on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk across 7.2 innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Friday.

Indians manager Terry Francona allowed Bieber to face the first two batters in the seventh, but even though he retired both, he left the game for matchup reasons. Bieber was also at 114 pitches when he exited. The 23-year-old has settled for no-decisions or taken losses in his last three outings, but he is still 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 37 innings this season. He will be looking for his third win in his next start Wednesday against the White Sox at home.

  • White Sox's Justin Nicolino: Lands with White Sox

Nicolino signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

It didn't take long for Nicolino to find a new home after being released by the Twins earlier in the week. The southpaw compiled a 5.12 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 13:8 K:BB though 19.1 innings (four starts, one relief appearance) with Triple-A Rochester before being cut loose. He'll provide starting pitching depth for the White Sox, who just lost Carlos Rodon to an elbow injury.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Yields three unearned runs

Gibson (2-1) allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks in a loss to the Yankees on Friday.

The Twins defense let down Gibson in this one, as three Yankees runs scored off two errors. Those mistakes forced Gibson to throw more pitches, and as a result, he had his shortest outing since April 9. Gibson dropped to 2-1 with the loss; he also has a 4.68 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 32.2 innings this year. He is expected to make his next start on the road Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Yankees' James Paxton: Not expecting long-term absence

Paxton, who exited Friday's game with left knee soreness, doesn't believe the issue will result in a long-term absence, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. "It's frustrating, but I'm not real worried that it's going to be something long-term," the southpaw said. "I think it's going to be a pretty quick fix. I'm looking forward to finding out what's going on."

Paxton has apparently been dealing with soreness in his left knee throughout the season, though Friday was apparently the first time the issue affected his ability to pitch. The hope is that Paxton's knee was simply sore on what was a damp night, though more won't be known until after he undergoes further testing Saturday.

  • Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA

Rays' Yonny Chirinos: Following opener Saturday

Chirinos will pitch in relief Saturday against the Orioles, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

While Chirinos won't get the start, he should cover the bulk of innings behind opener Ryne Stanek. In six appearances this season (three starts), Chirinos owns a 3.48 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 26:6 K:BB in 31 innings.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Rays' Tyler Glasnow: Fans eight in seven scoreless

Glasnow (6-0) picked up the win Friday against the Orioles, allowing just three hits while striking out eight batters across seven scoreless innings.

Glasnow didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning as he cruised to his sixth win of the season. The right-hander is now undefeated with a shiny 1.47 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 46:7 K:BB through seven starts this season. He'll look to keep things rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Yankees' James Paxton: Lifted with knee soreness

Paxton was removed from Friday's game against the Twins with left knee soreness, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Paxton is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity of the issue. Prior to exiting, the big southpaw allowed an unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out one through three innings. According to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, manager Aaron Boone noted after the game that Paxton has dealt with some nagging knee soreness all year, though it hadn't affected his pitching before Friday.

  • Clarke Schmidt RP | NYY

Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Flashing prime strikeout rate

Schmidt has posted a 3.97 and 1.58 WHIP through five starts at High-A Tampa, striking out 25 while walking 11 through 22.2 innings.

Schmidt's control could be better, but his numbers are skewed a little by one five-walk outing in his second start this year. The 2017 first-round pick for the Yankees is skipping Low-A entirely, so grade his results on the curve.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Throwing from 90 feet

Clevinger (back) played catch from 90 feet Friday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Clevinger resumed throwing Tuesday for the first time since suffering the back strain and appears to be progressing nicely in his throwing program. The team originally didn't expect the 28-year-old to pick up a baseball for 6-to-8 weeks, but the fact he's advancing his throwing program after less than a month indicates he's significantly ahead of schedule in his recovery. The 29-year-old will be eligible to come off the 60-day injured list in early June, but at this point he remains without an official return timetable.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rangers' Drew Smyly: Confirmed for Sunday's start

Smyly (arm) will be activated from the 10-day injured list to start Sunday against the Blue Jays.

The confirmation hardly comes as a surprise with the Rangers aiming for his return Sunday since last weekend. The 29-year-old struggled before landing on the injured list with left arm soreness with a 7.80 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 19:10 K:BB over 15 innings.
