Indians' Corey Kluber: Suffers forearm fracture

Kluber was diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of his right forearm Wednesday after undergoing X-rays, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Kluber was struck by a 102.2-mph line drive in the right forearm during Wednesday's start at Miami. The veteran right-hander should receive a recovery timetable Thursday as he returns to Cleveland to be further evaluated. The Indians' depth in the starting rotation will be tested even further with Mike Clevinger (back) already on the 60-day injured list.

Indians' Corey Kluber: Heading for X-rays

Kluber was diagnosed with a right forearm bruise and is undergoing X-rays after leaving Wednesday's start at Miami, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Kluber was hit in the forearm by a 102.2-mph line drive during the fifth inning Wednesday and was promptly removed from the game.

Indians' Corey Kluber: Leaves Wednesday's game

Kluber was removed from Wednesday's start against the Marlins after being hit in the right arm by a line drive, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Brian Anderson ripped a 102.2-mph liner back up the middle and it appeared to hit Kluber in the right forearm/elbow area. The 33-year-old allowed three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts before exiting the contest. More information should become available as the veteran right-hander is evaluated.

  • Angels' Griffin Canning: Set for another start next week

Canning will remain in the majors for at least one more start, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Canning won't pitch in this weekend's two-game series against the Astros in Mexico, but will take the mound sometime during next week's series versus the Tigers, which begins Tuesday. The 22-year-old did not factor in the decision during his major-league debut, giving up three runs on four hits over 4.1 innings while striking out six.

  • Logan Gilbert SP | SEA

Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Promoted to High-A

Gilbert was promoted from Low-A West Virginia to High-A Modesto on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Gilbert, the 14th overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft, earned the promotion after dominating at Low-A, posting a 1.83 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 30:5 K:BB through four starts (19.2 innings) with West Virginia. The soon-to-be 22-year-old will look to keep things rolling as he faces a tougher challenge with Modesto.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Orioles' Alex Cobb: Still dealing with soreness

Cobb is getting his back examined in Baltimore, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Cobb, who was placed on the injured list Sunday, is apparently still experiencing some soreness, prompting the Orioles to send him for a follow-up appointment. A timetable for his return will hopefully come into focus following his upcoming evaluation.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Expected to start Thursday

Giolito (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list to start Thursday against the Red Sox, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Giolito has been sidelined for almost two weeks due to a left hamstring strain, but it sounds like he's finally ready to rejoin the big-league rotation after completing a 50-pitch bullpen session with no issues earlier in the week. Prior to landing on the shelf, the right-hander compiled a 5.30 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB through four starts (18.2 innings).

  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

White Sox's Dylan Cease: Finds form after brief rough patch

Cease limited Triple-A Gwinnett to two runs over six innings while striking out a career-high 11 for Charlotte in a 4-2 loss Tuesday. He gave up five hits and one walk in the outing.

Cease opened the campaign with back-to-back starts of five shutout innings, but had been charged with 11 runs (seven earned) over his subsequent two turns. The right-hander ended the rough spell with a brilliant showing Tuesday, which included three perfect innings to lead off the start. The White Sox will probably want to see Cease string together a few more quality performances in a row before giving him his first big-league callup at some point this summer.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rangers' Drew Smyly: Remains on track to start Sunday

Smyly (arm) said he expects to be activated from the 10-day injured list to start Sunday against the Blue Jays, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Smyly said he felt great after throwing 37 pitches in a two-inning simulated game Wednesday, essentially clearing the way for him to rejoin the big-league rotation over the weekend. Prior to landing on the IL on April 20, the southpaw posted a 7.80 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 19:10 K:BB through four starts (15 innings).

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rangers' Drew Smyly: Expected to start Sunday

Manager Chris Woodward said the Rangers plan to activate Smyly (arm) from the 10-day injured list to have him start Sunday against the Blue Jays, Gerry Fraley of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Smyly will first pitch in a simulated game Wednesday, so the manager's plans could change pending that session. The left-hander has missed two turns through the rotation since being added to the injured list April 20.
