  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Lat strain isn't new

Severino's Grade 2 lat strain isn't a setback but has been around since the day he strained his shoulder, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Severino says that both injuries occurred at the same time, but only the shoulder issue was picked up in his first MRI. The lack of a setback is at least mildly encouraging but doesn't change his overall timeline. He's still at least five weeks from taking part in baseball activities and will then have to build his arm strength back up before returning to game action.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Exits with apparent injury

Giolito exited Wednesday's game against the Royals with an undisclosed injury, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Giolito appeared to tweak his foot during the third inning of Wednesday's game, and he subsequently exited with the team's trainer after throwing a few test pitches and not feeling quite right. Specifics regarding the issue are not yet known. Prior to exiting, Giolito hadn't allowed a hit through 2.2 innings while striking out five. Ryan Burr took over for Giolito.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Pitches six strong

Bieber (2-0) allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks across six-plus innings in a victory against the Mariners on Tuesday.

The Mariners reached base in every inning against Bieber except the first. In two of the frames, Seattle had baserunners because of errors, but Bieber worked around nearly all the traffic, allowing just one run, and the Indians' bullpen stranded the runner he left aboard in the seventh. He has been stellar this season, as Bieber has yet to allow more than two runs in any of his four appearances. He is 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 21 innings. His next scheduled start is at home against the Marlins on Tuesday.

  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

Angels' Andrew Heaney: Throwing from 110 feet

Heaney (elbow) advanced to playing catch from 110 feet Tuesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Heaney received a cortisone injection at the start of April and resumed throwing a week ago, so he's still building up his arm strength a bit. The 27-year-old is expected to begin working off a mound within 10-to-12 days, which would be a significant step towards his return from left elbow inflammation.

  • JC Ramirez SP | LAA

Angels' JC Ramirez: Nearing live BP

Ramirez (elbow) is scheduled to face live hitters in early May, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Ramirez has been ramping up his throwing program throughout the spring as he continues his recovery from last April's Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old will stretch out by throwing at least 60 pitches so that the Angels can decide whether to utilize him as a starter or reliever when he's ready to return.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

    Rays' Tyler Glasnow: Stays undefeated

Glasnow (4-0) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up two runs on seven hits over seven innings while striking out three in a 4-2 victory over the Orioles.

The 25-year-old was sharp if not dominant, throwing 61 of 87 pitches for strikes en route to his third straight quality start. Glasnow will take a 1.13 ERA and 24:3 K:BB through 24 innings into his next outing Sunday, at home against the Red Sox.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Hurt by long ball again

Bundy (0-2) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks over five innings while striking out five as the O's fell 4-2 to the Rays.

The right-hander only gave up one homer this time, an improvement on his prior two starts, but it was a back-breaker -- Avisail Garcia touched him up for a three-run shot in the fourth inning, erasing a 2-0 Baltimore lead. Bundy will carry a weak 7.79 ERA but superficially strong 22:9 K:BB through 17.1 innings into his next outing Sunday, at home against the Twins.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matthew Boyd: Pitches well in no-decision

Boyd allowed three runs over seven innings and did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Pirates. He gave up six hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Boyd and Pittsburgh starter Joe Musgrove were locked in a pitcher's duel for seven innings, and neither factored into the decision, as the Pirates scored twice in the 10th inning to pull ahead. Boyd has been excellent to start the season, as he now has a 2.96 ERA through four starts, with a stellar 36:7 K:BB across 24.1 innings. The lefty will look to stay hot in his next scheduled start Sunday against the White Sox.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Strikes out four in no-decision

Gibson struck out four but was tagged with four runs over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. He allowed four hits and three walks as the Twins eventually lost 6-5.

Gibson shut out Toronto through the first five innings, but he ran into trouble in the sixth as he gave up three hits and a walk before he was removed. The 31-year-old's outing leaves him with an unsightly 7.36 ERA and 1.77 WHIP along with a 12:8 K:BB. He currently lines up to face the Orioles on the road Sunday.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Takes fourth loss

Sale (0-4) took the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday by giving up four runs on seven hits across five innings. He struck out six and walked one.

Sale was finally able to find his fastball velocity Tuesday as he averaged 95.5 mph, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com, but it didn't translate to a successful outing. The 30-year-old has now lost his first four starts of the season, equaling his loss total over 27 starts in 2018. Sale has a 8.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB through 18 innings and lines up to face the Tigers next Monday.
