  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Picks up win in return from DL

Morton (14-3) picked up the win Saturday against the Red Sox, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out three.

Morton dealt with a good amount of traffic in this one but was able to limit the damage. It was respectable return to action for the right-hander, who hadn't started since Aug. 28 due to a shoulder injury. Morton hasn't lasted longer than five innings in any of his last four starts, struggling to a 5.03 ERA and 17:9 K:BB over that stretch (19.2 innings), though he still owns a sharp 3.15 ERA with 188 strikeouts on the season. He'll face the Diamondbacks at home next.

  • Rangers' Jeffrey Springs: Will open Sunday

Springs will open Sunday's game against the Athletics, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Springs will make his second appearance as an opener for the Rangers, with Ariel Jurado again set to follow. Springs tossed two scoreless innings during his first "start" Monday and overall has a 2.29 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 19.2 innings with the Rangers.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Feels good after bullpen session

McCullers (forearm) felt good after a bullpen session Saturday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

McCullers did not throw any curveballs during the session. He's expected to throw another bullpen session during the Astros' series in Detroit, which runs from Monday to Wednesday, during which he'll throw all of his pitches. It's not yet clear exactly when he'll be able to return to the active roster.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Orioles' Alex Cobb: Light throwing session Saturday

Cobb (hand) had a light throwing session prior to Saturday's game against Tampa Bay, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Orioles announced Friday that Cobb would be pushed back from Sunday's scheduled start due to a blister on his right hand. The 30-year-old currently hopes to be ready to start against the Athletics on Tuesday.

  • Rob Scahill SP | CHW

White Sox's Rob Scahill: Contract purchased by White Sox

Scahill had his contract selected from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.

Scahill signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox in December and has spent the 2018 season with the Knights. The 31-year-old pitched in 18 games with the Brewers last season, posting a respectable 4.43 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 22.1 innings.

  • Michael Kopech SP | LAD

White Sox's Michael Kopech: Lands on 60-day DL

Kopech (elbow) was placed on the 60-day disabled list Saturday.

The move officially ends Kopech's 2018 season as he potentially faces Tommy John surgery. The surgery has not officially been announced as the 22-year-old seeks a second opinion prior to going under the knife.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Activated for Saturday's start

Morton (shoulder) was returned from the 10-day disabled list prior to Saturday's start against the Red Sox, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet reports.

As expected, Morton rejoined the active roster after missing one start due to right shoulder discomfort. In seven starts since the All-Star break, he's logged a 3.63 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Orioles' Alex Cobb: Sunday's start to be skipped

Cobb will miss his scheduled start Sunday against the Rays due to a recurring blister on his hand, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Manager Buck Showalter suggested prior to Friday's series opener that Cobb could be pushed back in the rotation before stating after the team's 14-2 loss that Josh Rogers would receive the starting nod Sunday. Cobb will likely take a few days off to heal up from the blister before throwing a bullpen session early next week, at which point the Orioles will decide if he's fit to make his next turn through the rotation. The right-hander tentatively lines up to start next weekend against the White Sox.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Fans nine for 18th win

Snell (18-5) picked up the win in Friday's 14-2 rout of the Orioles, allowing two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings while striking out nine.

The southpaw's stellar season continues. Snell has given up more than two runs in a start only four times in 27 trips to the mound, and he's put himself firmly in Cy Young contention by being among the AL leaders in wins (tied for first with Corey Kluber), ERA (second to Chris Sale), WHIP (fourth) and strikeouts (ninth). Snell will get a chance to bolster his case further in a home matchup against Carlos Carrasco and Cleveland on Wednesday.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Hit hard by Rays

Bundy (7-14) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on four hits and five walks over four innings while striking out three as the Orioles were routed 14-2 by the Rays.

The right-hander threw exactly half of his 84 pitches for strikes, and Tampa made Bundy pay for his control issues, smacking three-run homers in the second and third innings. The 25-year-old has given up at least one home run in 11 straight starts, posting a wretched 8.83 ERA and 3.2 HR/9 in 54 innings over that stretch despite a solid 50:20 K:BB. He'll try to find a way to turn things around in his next outing Thursday at home against the A's.
