Frankie Montas RP | NYM
Athletics' Frankie Montas: Recalled ahead of start
Montas was recalled from Triple-A Nashville ahead of his scheduled start against the Mariners.
As expected, Montas will enter the big-league rotation Thursday in place of the injured Sean Manaea (shoulder). The 25-year-old is 5-3 with a 3.75 ERA across 10 starts (57.2 innings) for the A's this season. With Manaea potentially out for the season, Montas could stick in the rotation for multiple starts if he holds his own. Ryan Dull was sent to the minors to clear room for the right-hander.

Neil Ramirez RP | CLE
Indians' Neil Ramirez: Rehabbing at Double-A
Ramirez (back) made a rehab appearance at Double-A Akron on Wednesday, retiring three of the five hitters he faced and notching a strikeout.
Ramirez has only been on the disabled list for about a week after experiencing lower-back spasms, so the rehab appearance may be the only one he requires before rejoining the Indians. He'll likely be reinstated from the DL on Sunday when first eligible.

Kyle Gibson SP | BAL
Twins' Kyle Gibson: Next start pushed to Monday
Gibson's next start will come Monday in Houston as the Twins begin to employ a six-man rotation, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Gibson was initially in line to start Sunday against the Rangers, but will now face a peaking Astros' lineup that is finally getting back to full health. It's unclear who will be joining Minnesota's rotation, but it's expected to be a minor-leaguer that will be called up when rosters expand to 40 this weekend.

Alex Cobb SP | DET
Orioles' Alex Cobb: Jolted by Jays in no-decision
Cobb didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Blue Jays, surrendering five runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.2 innings while striking out four.
He was fortunate to avoid the loss, as seven of the eight hits off Cobb went for extra bases, with Devon Travis proving to be his main nemesis as the second baseman launched two doubles and a sixth-inning solo shot that chased the right-hander from the game. Cobb had delivered five straight quality starts prior to Wednesday's disaster, so he'll look to get back on track in his next outing Tuesday in Seattle.

Martin Perez SP | ATL
Rangers' Martin Perez: Shifted to bullpen
Manager Jeff Bannister said Perez will work out of the bullpen moving forward, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
The Rangers decided Perez simply isn't cutting it as a starter, as the southpaw has allowed four or more runs in three straight outings and owns an unsightly 6.95 ERA through 13 starts this season. His replacement in the rotation has yet to be announced. On top of his shift to the bullpen, the Rangers informed Perez that they wouldn't be picking up his team option for 2019 if the season ended today, per Levi Weaver of The Athletic Dallas, though his performance in September could change their mind.

Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL
Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Fires quality start
Keuchel didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the A's, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out five across six innings.
Keuchel pitched around traffic most of the afternoon. He served up a bases-clearing double to Stephen Piscotty in the fourth inning but exited with a 4-3 lead after six. The Astros' bullpen wasn't able to hang onto the lead, leaving Kuechel with just two wins in August despite five quality efforts. He'll carry a 3.58 ERA into his next start, which will come at home against the Twins.

Aaron Civale RP | CHC
Indians' Aaron Civale: Placed on DL
Civale was put on the 7-day disabled list Wednesday with a right lat strain.
Civale suffered the injury during Monday's start at High-A Akron, as he was able to record just one out before exiting the contest. With the end of the minor-league season quickly approaching, this may close the book on Civale's 2018 season.

Juan Nicasio SP | TEX
Mariners' Juan Nicasio: Transferred to 60-day DL
Nicasio (knee) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.
Nicasio is scheduled to undergo season-ending knee surgery in the coming days. This move frees up a spot on the team's 40-man roster for Dan Altavilla, who was activated from the 60-day DL in a corresponding move.

Chris Sale SP | ATL
Red Sox's Chris Sale: Throws for third straight day
Sale (shoulder) threw on flat ground from 120 feet Wednesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
He has now thrown on flat ground for three straight days -- the first three days of his throwing program. The next step could be a bullpen session, but we should learn more in the coming days. The hope is that he will be able to return to game action in early September.

Marco Gonzales RP | TEX
Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Hopes to resume throwing soon
Gonzales (neck) met with trainers Tuesday and is hoping to resume throwing in the next few days, Kathryn Woo of MLB.com reports. "It's kind of a muscular thing," manager Scott Servais said, "He's had tests and pictures of it, but there's nothing serious about it other than he can't shake it. We just thought to give him a little more time to calm down and then we'll get him back in the rotation. His arm feels fine, there's no issues there at all, it's just neck tightness."
The young left-hander had apparently been dealing with discomfort for several weeks, although it became much more pronounced following his most recent start last Wednesday against the Astros. Gonzales mentioned that although pain hadn't been a problem, the strain had been inhibiting his ability to sleep, which certainly could have played a part in a recent string of poor performances. Gonzales is hoping to only miss the minimum 10 days his disabled list stint requires.
