  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Takes 11th loss in final start

Boyd (6-11) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts over five innings and took the loss Friday against the Twins.

Boyd will end his season with just one win in his final seven decisions, a struck in which he owns a 5.14 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. He gave up a pair of home runs in Friday's start, his last of the season, giving him 18 over 25 starts, a big reason why he was ineffective. Over three seasons, Boyd has yet to post an ERA below 4.50.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Walks five in unimpressive final start

Miley (8-15) allowed four runs on five hits and five walks with six strikeouts over four innings to take the loss Friday to the Rays.

Miley's season ends with five straight losses, including four starts of at least four runs allowed. His final ERA sits at 5.61 over 159.1 innings and a brutal 141:93 K:BB. This is his second straight season with an ERA over 5.00, and he hasn't posted an ERA under 4.00 since 2013 with Arizona.

  • Rays' Jake Odorizzi: Leaves with knee soreness

Odorizzi left Friday's start with right knee soreness.

This was Odorizzi's final start of the season anyway, so unless it turns out he suffered a freak tear to a ligament or something of that nature, Odorizzi's offseason shouldn't be impacted by this injury. He tossed four shutout innings and allowed just two hits with a walk and four strikeouts to end the season. Odorizzi's final ERA will be 4.14, the first time he has finished with an ERA over 4.00 since 2014.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Will start Sunday

Paxton will start Sunday's season finale against the Angels, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

The Mariners debated shutting Paxton down for the season after his last start Tuesday, but he wanted to take the ball one more time before the 2017 campaign came to a close, and manager Scott Servais ultimately decided to grant his wish. Paxton has faced the Angels three times this season and is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA, 15:8 K:BB, and .190 BAA.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Pitches will be limited Friday

Gibson will be on a pitch count in Friday's start, according to the Twins' official website.

Gibson will be pitching on six days rest Friday, but manager Paul Molitor wants him available for Tuesday's wild-card game -- just four days later -- so he will limit his pitches in an effort to keep him fresh if needed.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Will pitch in relief Friday

Berrios will work in relief Friday in order to be available for Tuesday's wild-card game, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Berrios was tentatively scheduled to start Saturday's game, but that likely would have made him unavailable Tuesday, so manager Paul Molitor decided to switch things up so that he will have all of his best pitchers available Tuesday if needed. With Berrios not starting Saturday, Aaron Slegers will get the nod instead.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Unsure of future with team

Miley expressed interest in returning to Baltimore next season, but the club has yet to offer encouraging remarks when asked if it will pick up the pitcher's $12 million team option for 2018, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

It's hard to believe that the O's would even think about paying Miley $12 million after the season he's had. According to FanGraphs, the southpaw has tossed a league-worst 35 percent of his pitches for strikes, and only 41 percent of those have elicited swings (which is also worst in the league). "We're going to need to improve our starting pitching in 2018," said VP of baseball operations Dan Duquette. "Obviously, we're disappointed with our staff this year. There's time for that." Miley stringed together a few good runs in 2017, but overall it was a disastrous campaign that will likely have him looking for a new team this winter.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Option will be exercised

The Rangers informed Perez on Thursday that they intend to exercise his $6 million club option for 2018, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Perez, who is due to make his final start of the season Friday against the Athletics, has submitted a 12-12 record, 4.83 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 113 strikeouts over 179 innings. While those numbers don't move the needle much from a fantasy perspective, the lefty has brought value to the Rangers the last two seasons simply by being a capable innings eater. Since $6 million is a relative pittance for a proven back-end starter, it was likely an easy decision for the Rangers to pick up his option. Perez's contract also includes $7.5 million and $9 million options for 2019 and 2020, respectively.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Yankees' Sonny Gray: Serves up six runs to Rays in loss

Gray (11-11) allowed six runs on six hits and five walks while striking out just two batters through 4.2 innings to take the loss against Tampa Bay on Thursday.

This obviously wasn't Gray's strongest showing, and he's now lost three of his past four starts. However, the 27-year-old righty will still finish the regular season with a solid 3.49 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 8.5 K/9. Those numbers move the fantasy needle in all settings, and Gray will also have an opportunity to further boost his stock during the postseason.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Pulled in second inning Thursday

Rodriguez (6-7) was pummeled for five runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in just 1.2 innings to take the loss Thursday against Houston.

Rodriguez struggled from the get-go, surrendering three runs on a bases-clearing double by Marwin Gonzalez in the first inning and two more on an Alex Bregman homer in the second before being pulled with just 50 pitches under his belt. He was on pace to finish with a sub-4.00 ERA for the second time in three years, but this poor performance raised Rodriguez's ERA from 3.91 to 4.19. While the lefty's lined up to start against these same Astros in the ALDS next week should Boston hold on to win the AL East crown, manager John Farrell could opt to go in a different direction after seeing this result.
