  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Drops to 6-9 with loss to Rangers

Gibson allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters through 5.1 innings during Saturday's loss to Texas.

Gibson allowed 14 runs over 17.1 innings over his previous three outings, so this was a better start from the 2009 first-round selection. He's struggled to gain any momentum on the mound this season, and with a 6.03 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 5.9 K/9 for the campaign, his fantasy value is extremely limited. Gibson lines up to face the Brewers at Miller Park in his next start.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Improves to 6-1 with complete-game victory

Hamels (6-1) allowed an unearned run and recorded five strikeouts during a complete-game win over Minnesota on Saturday.

The veteran entered with a 4.74 ERA over seven starts since returning from the disabled list June 26, and he'd allowed four runs or more in four of those seven outings. However, Saturday's showing was also his third without allowing an earned run during that stretch. Despite his game-to-game inconsistency, Hamels still owns plenty of upside, and being selective with his matchups moving forward isn't out of the question. Hamels lines up to make a home start against the dangerous Astros next.

  • Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: Holds Indians to single run through five

Montgomery allowed a single run on three hits while striking out seven batters through five innings during Saturday's win over Cleveland. He didn't factor into the decision.

The rookie struggled in July with a 5.90 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over six starts, so this was a solid bounce-back showing. Montgomery owns a serviceable 4.05 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 8.6 K/9 for the campaign, and with the Yankees capable of providing plenty of run support, he could continue to move the fantasy needle as long as he remains in the starting rotation. Unfortunately, the additions of Sonny Gray and Jaime Garcia could cost Montgomery starts down the stretch, so his fantasy value is currently in limbo. However, Saturday's outing against a daunting opponent is definitely an encouraging showing.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Receives no decision Saturday

Miley (5-9) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five across five innings, in a no-decision Saturday against the Tigers.

Miley gave up a two-run homer in the first inning, but threw up zeroes after that, though his offense was unable to provide him enough run support to earn him a victory. After a horrendous July, Miley's solid outing was encouraging, though he'll likely need to string together a couple more strong performances before fantasy managers begin to regain trust in him. He'll make his next start Friday against Oakland.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Rays' Alex Cobb: Allows one run in losing effort Saturday

Cobb (9-8) allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six across six innings to take the loss Saturday against the Brewers.

Cobb gave up a solo homer to Hernan Perez and he wasn't provided a single run of support, leading him to the tough-luck loss. This was the fourth time over his last six starts that he's held opponents to one or fewer earned runs, and although he's prone to the occasional rough outing, he clearly has upside as a fantasy option. He'll make his next start Friday against the Indians.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Set to start first game Sunday

Gonzales will start the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Royals, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Saturday's game was postponed and rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader. Erasmo Ramirez will follow Gonzales in the nightcap. Gonzales could stick around for a while depending on the results of Felix Hernandez's upcoming evaluation.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Saturday's game postponed

Gonzales will not make his scheduled start Saturday against the Royals, as the game has been postponed due to rain.

Mother Nature will delay Gonzales' Mariners debut, but likely only by one day, as the game is scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday. Gonzales was slated to step in for Felix Hernandez, who hit the DL with biceps tendinitis.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Recalled, set to start Saturday

Gonzales was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and will start Saturday against the Royals.

Biceps tendinitis has forced Felix Hernandez to the DL and opened the door for Gonzales to make his Mariners debut. It will be his eighth career start at the major-league level (seven with St. Louis). Gonzales has fared well at Triple-A this year in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, but he allows quite a bit of contact, and that has led to some home run issues against big-league hitters.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Sunk by homer barrage Friday

Perez (5-10) surrendered seven runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out two in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Twins.

It's only the second time this season the lefty has served up multiple homers in a game, but that's not to say Perez has been pitching well. He's now lost four straight starts, posting a 9.41 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB in 22 innings over that stretch, and only a lack of healthy alternatives is keeping him in the Rangers rotation at the moment. Things won't get any easier for him next Friday, when he faces the Astros in Arlington.

  • Mariners' Christian Bergman: Clears waivers, heads back to Tacoma

Bergman, who gave up 17 earned runs on 22 hits over his last two outings, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Bob Dutton of The News Tribune reports.

The 29-year-old right-hander was completely decimated by Colorado Springs and Memphis in his last two starts, leading to the move to take him off the 40-man roster. Prior to the pair of disastrous outings, Bergman had actually produced a solid body of work with the Rainiers. Therefore, he still sports an impressive 8-3 record, although it's accompanied by an ERA that's ballooned from 3.34 to 5.10 due to the aforementioned meltdowns.
