  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Scheduled to start Thursday

Boyd is now scheduled to make his 2017 debut Thursday against the White Sox.

Boyd will actually move up a day following Wednesday's postponement, while Jordan Zimmermann and Daniel Norris will both be pushed back. The 26-year-old lefty endured some growing pains in 20 appearances (18 starts) at the major-league level last season, but he was quite good in July and August with sub-3.00 ERAs in both months. He posted a 23:1 K:BB in 25.2 innings this spring.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Dazzles Mariners with curves

McCullers (1-0) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Seattle.

McCullers kept Seattle hitters off balance with his curveball, striking out five of the first 10 batters he faced and while inducing 12 groundball outs to none in the air. Three of the five hits allowed were infield singles. This was a very impressive outing for the 23-year-old, who had mixed results during spring training. McCullers will next take the mound Sunday against the Royals.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Strikes out seven in win Tuesday

Carrasco (1-0) earned the win over the Rangers on Tuesday, allowing just two runs on four hits and one walk across 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Carrasco had a terrific concept of the strike zone Tuesday, throwing 68 percent of his pitches for the strikes, and his only real blemish came on a long Joey Gallo home run in the second inning. The club limited Carrasco's pitches as he continues to fully build up his stamina, but this was certainly a positive step toward his ultimate goal in that regard. He should be expected to near 90 pitches in his next start Tuesday against the White Sox.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Rallies from poor start, still takes loss

Perez (0-1) allowed three runs on five hits and four walks across six innings during Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Indians. He struck out four.

Perez ran up his pitch count early on as he allowed all three runs within the first two innings, but he settled down and allowed just three men to reach over his final four frames. It was a positive that the lefty was able to battle back, as he will be counted on to anchor the middle of the rotation until some of the other starters get up to speed. That said, Perez still took the loss. He will look to achieve a better result Sunday against the Athletics.

  • Rays' Jake Odorizzi: Serves up two homers in Tuesday's loss

Odorizzi (0-1) gave up four runs on seven hits, including two home runs, and two walks while striking out four over six innings in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Yankees.

He was fairly sharp for the most part, throwing 76 of 107 pitches for strikes, but Odorizzi made two mistakes to Ronald Torreyes and Chase Headley, which was two mistakes too many on a night when he wasn't getting any run support. The 27-year-old coughed up a career-high 1.4 HR/9 last season so this wasn't the most encouraging start to his campaign, and he'll get another tough test Sunday at home against the Blue Jays.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Feels great after bullpen session

Gray (back) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday and felt great afterwards, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. He's scheduled for another bullpen session Friday.

Gray continues to battle back from the lat strain that has plagued him for the past several weeks. The exact timetable for his return has yet to be established, but Joe Stiglich reports that the A's are looking for their ace to throw off the mound at least two-to-three times before potentially facing live hitters. It sounds like the 27-year-old is still a few weeks away from making his major-league return.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

White Sox's Jose Quintana: Pounded by Tigers in Opening Day start

Quintana surrendered six runs on five hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over 5.1 innings while striking out two in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Tigers. He also hit a batter.

It wasn't exactly the result Quintana was looking for in his first career Opening Day assignment, but Monday's rainout may have thrown him off his game. He's still set to take the mound Sunday at home against the Twins, so he'll get a chance at redemption with fantasy GMs who were hoping he could cash in on a two-start week to begin the season.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Set to face live hitters

Bassitt (elbow) will face live hitters Wednesday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander threw off a mound regularly throughout spring training and is now ready for the next step in his rehabilitation. He may need to log several live sessions before the team assigns him to an affiliate, but Bassitt doesn't appear to be too far off from beginning a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Mariners' Drew Smyly: Shut down for six weeks

Smyly (elbow) will be shut down from throwing for six weeks, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.

The initial estimate for Smyly's recovery was six-to-eight weeks, but that timetable has to be pushed back in light of this news. Chances are, Smyly will need at least a month to ramp up once he's cleared to resume a throwing program sometime in mid May. The lefty recently saw two more specialists who confirmed the diagnosis of a flexor strain. He was moved to the 60-day DL on Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Strikes out 10 in Opening Day win

Verlander allowed two runs on six hits and two walks over 6.1 innings while striking out 10 in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the White Sox.

Monday's rainout didn't seem to phase the Tigers ace at all, as the 34-year-old fired 66 of 102 pitches for strikes and could easily have had his second run ruled unearned after JaCoby Jones misplayed a Melky Cabrera bloop hit into what was called a double. Verlander's next outing is still set for Sunday at home against Boston, so Monday's postponement won't cost him a two-start week to begin the season.
