Indians' Corey Kluber: Will have blisters treated

Kluber will have the blister removed from his finger in the coming days, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports.

While it was reported that Kluber was dealing with blisters on Opening Day, Cleveland's pitching coach said that Kluber will be good to go for his next start Sunday against the Diamondbacks. The discomfort brought on by the blisters seemed to impede on his ability to throw in Monday's game, as he gave up five runs over the course of six innings.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Ready to start Sunday

Miley (illness) threw a simulated game Tuesday and is ready to make his season debut Sunday against the Yankees, Peter Schmuck of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Davis threw 87 pitches Tuesday and was happy with how he felt after the workout. However, he mentioned that he was still figuring out his control and threw some pitches higher than he would have liked. Miley doesn't expect to have a pitch count for Sunday's outing, as the purpose of Tuesday's workout wasn't for him to prove he was physically able to throw. Rather, it was to give him the chance to pitch for an extended period of time after missing much of the spring with the flu.

  • Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: Will pitch at High-A Tampa on Thursday

Montgomery will pitch at High-A Tampa on Thursday, Ken Davidoff of the New York Post reports.

Due to upcoming inclement weather at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees will have Montgomery pitch with their High-A affiliate Thursday. The Yankees, who are using a four-man rotation until April 16, have yet to decide who they'll name as their fifth starter, but Montgomery is in contention for the spot along with Chad Green.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Mariners' Drew Smyly: Moved to 60-day disabled list

Smyly was placed on the 60-day DL on Tuesday.

Smyly had been expected to miss up to eight weeks with an elbow strain, so the decision to place him on the 60-day disabled list was made so that the Mariners could add another player to the 40-man roster. In a corresponding move, the club picked up the right-handed Evan Marshall off waivers from Arizona.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Takes loss on Opening Day

Nolasco (0-1) surrendered three runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings Monday. He walked two batters and struck out four in an Opening Day loss to the Athletics.

The veteran pitcher was formidable for the majority of the night, working around walks and singles to keep the Angels in the game. It was a pair of solo homers that eventually did the 34-year-old in, ending his night one out short of a quality start. The long ball has always been an issue for the righty, as he's finished with an HR/9 above 1.0 for seven of his 11 major-league seasons. Despite Nolasco's shaky track record, there could be some deep-league value left in his arm in the right matchups. His next scheduled outing will come against the Mariners this Saturday.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Starting Tuesday

Verlander will start Tuesday against the White Sox following Monday's rainout, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The game will begin at 2:10 PM Eastern time, with Verlander squaring off against Jose Quintana. Verlander posted a 3.16 ERA and 19:7 K:BB in 25.2 spring innings after finishing as the runner-up in the AL Cy Young Award voting in 2016.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Gets off to great start

Keuchel (1-0) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four to beat the Mariners on Monday.

It's a great sign for the 2015 American League Cy Young winner after he regressed significantly last season and dealt with rotator cuff issues in his left shoulder. There remains some risk because of his limited strikeout ability, but if he can stay healthy this year, expect Keuchel to improve on his 2016 disappointment.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Deals with blisters in Opening Day start

Kluber said a callus ripped on one of his fingers during his rough Opening Day start, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Kluber said the blister (or possibly multiple blisters) made it difficult for him to spin the ball, and it showed -- he allowed five runs on six hits over six innings. The humidity in Texas didn't help things for Kluber, but it doesn't appear that he will miss any time to the injury. Still, it's a situation worth watching in the season's early weeks. We'll keep an eye out for updates, but assume he'll make his next start as expected.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Walks five in Opening Day no-decision

Darvish tossed 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits (one home run) and five walks while striking out four in a no-decision against the Indians on Monday night.

Darvish certainly wasn't at his best Monday against a strong lineup. It's disappointing after he came back strong from Tommy John surgery in the second half of last season -- especially with his command. His 11.8 K/9 last year shows just how dominant he can be, and he should demonstrate better control with more innings under his belt.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Not at his best in Opening Day start

Kluber threw six innings, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three in a no-decision against the Rangers on Monday night.

Cleveland's ace just wasn't on in this one, as he allowed three home runs. In his defense, he was facing a very strong lineup on the road in a hitter-friendly environment. Expect the Indians' ace to bounce back in his next outing.
