Eduardo Rodriguez SP | ARI
Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Bullpen can't clean up mess
Rodriguez (hamstring) allowed five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out one over 5.1 innings in Sunday's 10-4 loss to the Royals.
Rodriguez, making his first start since suffering a left hamstring strain, was far from perfect, but he had retired 10 of 11 batters entering the fateful sixth inning, when things disintegrated quickly. When he left, the bases were loaded and Boston was still leading, 4-2. Enter the inconsistent bullpen. Matt Barnes allowed all three inherited runners to score, then five additional runs were charged to him. The bullpen is taking the heat Monday morning, but Rodriguez has to own some of this mess. He's prone to big innings and isn't always mentally tough when runners get on base. The lefty's next scheduled to pitch Friday in Oakland.

Kyle Gibson SP | BAL
Twins' Kyle Gibson: Serves up two homers in Sunday's no-decision
Gibson (5-8) gave up four runs on eight hits, including two home runs, and three walks over 5.1 innings while striking out one but escaped with a no-decision in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.
His control his completely deserted him in August and Gibson now has a putrid 19:17 K:BB in 34 innings over six starts on the month en route to a 6.62 ERA. He'll next take the mound Friday at home against the White Sox.

Kevin Gausman SP | CHC
Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Seven scoreless innings in rare road win Sunday
Gausman (6-10) blanked the Yankees for seven innings Sunday, scattering seven hits while striking out nine, to pick up his first road win of the season.
Incredibly Gausman had been 0-16 in his last 25 starts away from Camden Yards, last winning a road start just over two years ago in Cleveland. He's now thrown 13 scoreless frames over his last two outings and has four quality starts in six August trips to the mound, giving him a 2.45 ERA and strong 41:12 K:BB in 36.2 innings on the month. Gausman may finally be developing into the ace he was projected to be when he was coming up through the Orioles' system. He'll try to keep his scoreless streak going Saturday in a rematch back in Baltimore against the Yankees.

Alex Cobb SP | DET
Rays' Alex Cobb: Activation coming Monday
Cobb (elbow) will be activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, Steve Carney of 620 WDA reports.
Given that Cobb made a rehab outing Saturday, it's unlikely he will rejoin the rotation before the upcoming Friday or Saturday, but that should be announced in the coming days. Although his numbers in the minors (6.65 ERA, 1.80 WHIP) weren't overly impressive, the Rays likely aren't concerned with the results of his rehab. He will rejoin a Tampa Bay team that is out of playoff contention, giving him plenty of time to tune up prior to the offseason and the 2017 campaign.

Taijuan Walker SP | LAA
Mariners' Taijuan Walker: Suffers eighth loss of season Sunday
Walker (4-9) allowed four runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three over 7.1 innings to take the loss Sunday against the White Sox.
Walker has struggled over his last four starts, as he's allowed at least four runs in each outing, raising his ERA from 3.29 to 4.19. The good news is that he has a 1.17 WHIP, a number that's decreased in each of the last two seasons. He'll make his next start Friday against the Angels.

Carlos Rodon SP | NYY
White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Continues August hot streak
Rodon (5-8) allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six over six innings to earn the win Sunday against the Mariners.
Rodon's been on fire this month, as he's allowed just five runs over his five outings, lowering his ERA from 4.67 to 3.91. Despite the run of good success, he'll need a strong finish to the season to improve upon the 3.75 ERA he put up as a rookie in 2015. He'll make his next start Friday against the Twins.

Sonny Gray SP | BOS
Athletics' Sonny Gray: Set to begin playing catch soon
Gray (forearm) is expected to begin playing catch this week, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Gray hit the DL three weeks ago after experiencing inflammation in his right forearm, leading some to believe that the A's might consider shutting him down for the season. While that could still be the case, Gray will at least attempt to rehab the injury with the intention of returning in September, though he'll have to clear several hurdles along the way. Given that Gray has been blasted to the tune of a 5.74 ERA across 116 innings this season, it's probably not beneficial for most fantasy owners to stash him on their rosters until he returns.

Henderson Alvarez SP | WAS
Athletics' Henderson Alvarez: Will begin rehab assignment early this week
Alvarez (shoulder) is set to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Stockton within the next few days, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Alvarez hasn't been able to pitch for the A's all season while he's endured multiple setbacks in his recovery from July 2015 surgery to repair a tear in his throwing shoulder. For the third time this season, Alvarez will attempt to head out on a rehab assignment after his previous two efforts were thwarted, meaning a return to the A's before the conclusion of the campaign is still on the table. The right-hander threw 13 pitches during a simulated outing in Arizona on Saturday, with his fastball checking in around 89-to-91 miles per hour. If he continues to make velocity gains and avoid any further setbacks, Alvarez could serve as a bullpen option for the Athletics later in September.

Alex Cobb SP | DET
Rays' Alex Cobb: Expected to make 2016 MLB debut Friday or Saturday
Cobb (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 60-day DL and make his first start of the season for the Rays either Friday or Saturday against the Blue Jays, MLB.com's Bill Chastain reports
Cobb, who missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, concluded his eight-start rehab assignment Saturday, covering four innings and surrendering one run and five hits in an outing for Triple-A Durham. With a 6.65 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB ratio across 21.2 innings with Durham and High-A Charlotte, Cobb didn't exactly look sharp during his rehab, but more important than his results was the fact that he endured no setbacks with his elbow along the way. He'll likely experience plenty of ups and downs in his performance with the Rays over the final month of the season, but with the team out of playoff contention, the main priority will be ensuring that Cobb enters the offseason with his health fully intact heading into 2017.

Blake Snell SP | LAD
Rays' Blake Snell: Expects to make next start
Snell (lower leg) expects to make his next start, tentatively scheduled for Friday against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Snell was pulled in the fourth inning of his start Saturday against the Astros after he was struck on the left leg by a liner. Though he sustained some bruising and soreness as a result of the play, the right-hander indicated he's already noticing improvement with his condition and doesn't anticipate missing time. Fortunately for Snell, the Rays will have an off day in the schedule Thursday, meaning that he'll have an extra day of recovery time than he normally would between starts.
