Sonny Gray SP | BOS
Athletics' Sonny Gray: MRI only reveals strain and inflammation
MRI results on Gray's forearm only revealed inflammation and a strain, meaning the right-hander won't need surgery, although a firm timetable for his return has yet to be determined, Joe Stilglich of CSN California reports.
This is ultimately good news for Gray since there's nothing structurally wrong with his forearm, despite not knowing when he'll return to the mound after hitting the disabled list Sunday. The 26-year-old is currently touting a career-worst 5.74 ERA over 21 starts in his fourth major league season.

Odorizzi surrendered four runs in 5.1 innings in a no-decision on Monday against the Blue Jays. He gave up eight hits, walked three, and struck out four.
The start broke a stretch of three straight shutout starts for Odorizzi. The righty has now allowed just six runs in five starts since the All-Star break. Odorizzi will carry a 3.82 ERA and 1.22 WHIP into his start Sunday against the Yankees.

Taijuan Walker SP | LAA
Mariners' Taijuan Walker: Demoted due to performance, competitiveness
Walker's demotion Monday to Triple-A Tacoma was in part due to his lack competitiveness, manager Scott Servias said, in addition to poor performance, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Apparently, Walker's nagging foot injury, which sent him to the DL for a month, wasn't the problem it was thought to be. Servais said the team is in a position where it can't afford to keep starting a pitcher who has three quality starts in his last 13 outings. But Servais also questioned Walker's competitiveness. "When you're one of five starting pitchers, there's a certain level of expectation," Servais said. "You've got to go deeper in games. You've got to be competitive. ... There are plenty of things for him to work out, but the biggest thing is he needs to continue to compete. When you don't have it on a particular night or you give up some runs early in the game, how do you stay in the game?"

Sonny Gray SP | BOS
Athletics' Sonny Gray: Awaiting MRI results
Gray (forearm) underwent an MRI on Monday, John Hickey of the East Bay Times reports.
The club has yet to officially diagnose Gray's injury, but the 26-year-old's status should be known soon. Gray's poor season had only gotten worse in recent outings, as he's gone 2-3 with a 7.82 ERA and 1.69 WHIP since the All-Star break.

James Paxton SP | BOS
Mariners' James Paxton: Plans to return in coming days
Paxton (elbow) is expected to return by the end of the week, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Fortunately for the club, it appears that a stint on the DL won't be necessary Paxton. The team currently plans to let Paxton have a couple more days off to allow his elbow swelling to reduce, but he should return in the near future.

Taijuan Walker SP | LAA
Mariners' Taijuan Walker: Optioned to Triple-A Tacoma
Walker was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, Shannon Drayer of MYNorthwest.com reports.
Walker struggled in his first outing after returning from a foot injury as he allowed six earned runs over just four innings. He had a poor showing in his rehab start at Tacoma as well when he gave up two runs over just 4.1 innings. With Walker being optioned, Seattle will bring Arquimedes Caminero up to The Show.

Alex Cobb SP | DET
Rays' Alex Cobb: Moving rehab to Triple-A
Cobb (elbow) will move his rehab to Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Cobb had been working at High-A Charlotte, but he'll now head up to Triple-A, where he's slated to take the hill Wednesday night. The right-hander remains without a definitive timetable to return to the Rays, but if all goes well at Triple-A he could be back with the big league club sometime later in August.

Dylan Bundy SP | NYM
Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Strikes out career-high nine in Sunday's win
Bundy (5-3) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over six innings Sunday while striking out a career-high nine in a 10-2 win over the White Sox.
The Orioles had staked Bundy to an 8-0 lead by the third inning but he didn't lose his focus. Since a rough first start after the All-Star break, he's now put together an incredible 29:3 K:BB in 23.2 innings over his subsequent four outings while winning three of four decisions. Baltimore wasn't able to add an impact starting pitcher at the trade deadline but with the way Bundy is pitching right now, they may not have needed to. He'll next next the mound Friday in San Francisco.

Kyle Gibson SP | BAL
Twins' Kyle Gibson: Picks up win Sunday despite control issues
Gibson (4-6) allowed two runs on six hits and four walks over five innings Sunday while striking out two in a 6-3 win over the Rays.
It was hardly his sharpest outing of the season but with Miguel Sano putting on a power display, Gibson was just good enough to qualify for the win. After a solid July that saw him post a 3.69 ERA and 28:7 K:BB in 31.2 innings the wheels seem to be coming off for Gibson in August, as he now has a 4:5 K:BB in 9.2 innings through two starts to go along with an ugly 7.45 ERA. He'll try to turn things around Friday at home against the Royals.

Carlos Carrasco RP | ATL
Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Takes loss Sunday despite quality start
Carrasco (7-6) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out nine, in a loss to the Yankees.
He bounced back nicely from his disastrous last start, throwing 63 of 96 pitches for strikes and starting 17 of 28 batters off with first-pitch strikes, but got outdueled by Masahiro Tanaka. Carrasco will next toe the rubber Saturday at home against the Angels.
