  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Goes five innings against O's in no-decision

Berrios allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings against the Orioles on Tuesday. He did not factor in the decision in the Twins' 5-3 loss.

After holding the O's to one run through four, Berrios struck out Ryan Flaherty and Joey Rickard swinging to begin the fifth inning. Then Manny Machado got his third look at him. Machado homered and Adam Jones followed with a long ball of his own, souring what was shaping up to be a strong start for Berrios. There were still positives to take away from the outing, namely his one walk on the heels of a five-walk performance in his last start. Berrios comes with some risk, but the strikeouts make the bumps in the road easier to deal with.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Gives up six runs to Rangers

Rodon allowed six runs on 12 hits and two walks despite striking out seven over 6.2 innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Rangers.

Rodon was nasty at times, as he induced 15 swinging strikes, but Rangers hitters made him pay for his mistakes. Not only did Rodon give up a season high in hits, he allowed two homers accounting for four of the six runs the Rangers managed off him. Rodon has had no trouble drawing whiffs and has 40 strikeouts in 39.2 innings, but he has allowed fewer than three runs in a start just once in his past five outings and has allowed six home runs in that span. Rodon's talent is obvious, but major league hitters are figuring him out, and he's going to have to show he has the ability to adjust.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Solid road start against Twins Tuesday

Gausman threw a quality start, allowing three runs in six innings, with nine strikeouts Tuesday against the Twins. He did not figure in the decision.

Gausman continued his hot start while laboring his way through 111 pitches, his highest count of the season. He has fallen under some tough luck early and is without a win in his four starts. Gausman had struck out just seven in 14 innings over his last two starts, so getting nine in six innings is a nice change of pace even if the Twins are one of the top five strikeout hitting teams this season.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Beats Athletics in spot start

O'Sullivan (1-0) allowed four runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts over six innings in a win Tuesday against the Athletics.

O'Sullivan did all he had to do as a spot starter: eat up some innings and keep the team in the game. The Red Sox gave him 11 runs of support in the first five innings, so O'Sullivan threw strikes (61 of his 91 pitches) and pitched to contact and let his defense do the work. O'Sullivan will likely be returning to the minor leagues with Eduardo Rodriguez expected to return from the disabled list in time for the next turn in the rotation.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Ready to rejoin rotation

McCullers (shoulder) said Tuesday that he feels ready to rejoin the Astros' rotation, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Manager A.J. Hinch described it a "big day" for McCullers, who focused on fastball location for most of Tuesday's bullpen session. He was already confident in his curveball and slider after fanning seven over five scoreless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Fresno on Saturday. The skipper suggested an official announcement is coming Wednesday, but this Saturday in Boston is the presumptive date for McCullers' 2016 debut.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Completes bullpen session

Gibson (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday, Brian Murphy of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

"So far he's doing good," general manager Terry Ryan said of Gibson, who is slated to get back onto the mound Friday for additional work. It sounds like Gibson is moving in the right direction, but he figures to need a couple live sessions and ultimately a minor league rehab assignment before receiving the green light to return to the majors.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Throws bullpen session Tuesday

Rodriguez (knee) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.

Rodriguez has already embarked on a rehab stint and is scheduled to start Friday with Triple-A Pawtucket, but it appears as though a return is imminent shortly after that. Despite making 21 starts with Boston last season, it remains to be seen though if he'll head to the majors or stay at the Triple-A level when healthy.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Promotion to Triple-A 'imminent' per Luhnow

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Monday that a promotion to Triple-A Fresno is "imminent" for Musgrove, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Musgrove is dominating Texas League hitters with a 0.34 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 30:3 K:BB over 26.1 innings. Luhnow reiterated Monday that he's not afraid to promote pitchers from Double-A to the majors -- as was the case with Lance McCullers last season -- but he currently doesn't see an opening for the 23-year-old right-hander in the rotation. For now, the Astros will monitor Musgrove's workload so he's available to join Houston later in the year.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Crushed for seven runs in third straight loss

Gray (3-4) lasted just 3.2 innings while being rocked for seven runs on eight hits against the Red Sox on Monday. He walked two and sturck out two.

The shelling was Gray's third straight loss, a period in which his ERA has ballooned from 2.73 to 6.00. In his past two outings, the 2011 first-round pick has been tagged for 14 runs on 19 hits. Now in his fourth season, Gray is off to the worst start of his career. He'll look to rebound in his next start against the Rays in Tampa on Saturday.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Will make another start in Triple-A

Rodriguez (knee) will start Friday for Triple-A Pawtucket, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.

According to manager John Farrell, Rodriguez still needs to work on his arm strength, despite consistently throwing 91 mph during Sunday's start with Pawtucket. Farrell didn't guarantee that Rodriguez would reunite with the Red Sox even after Friday's start, so it remains unclear when Rodriguez will rejoin the Red Sox.
