  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton has torn fingernail

Mariners pitcher James Paxton suffered a setback in his recovery from an elbow injury when he suffered a partially torn fingernail during a rehab start, reports 710 ESPN Seattle.

Paxton was removed in the fourth inning of his outing Wednesday at Triple-A. The injury is expected to halt his recovery for a few more days.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians stating that SP Corey Kluber will pitch again in 2015

The Indians are not taking a pessimistic view of the hamstring injury that has sidelined ace Corey Kluber. They are claiming that Kluber will pitch again this season despite reports that he could be out for the year, according to Associated Press.

Kluber injured his hamstring running in the outfield during the team's series in Toronto earlier in the week. He is expected to be sidelined for 10 days.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Hamstring injury could end season for Indians SP Corey Kluber

Indians ace and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber could lose the rest of the season to a hamstring injury, the Cleveland Plain Dealer has reported.

Kluber, who was scheduled to start Friday night in Detroit, sustained the injury while running in the outfield during the just-completed series in Toronto. He will miss at least one week, but could be done for the year.

The right-hander has been a victim of poor run support in 2015, but has also been a bit more inconsistent than he was in his breakthrough 2014 campaign. If he is indeed finished, he will end the year with an 8-13 record and a 3.41 ERA that is nearly a point higher than what he registered last season.

  • Indians targeting a return next week for SP Carlos Carrasco

Indians starter Carlos Carrasco is slated to throw a bullpen session Friday in Detroit. He has been on the disabled list with an ailing shoulder, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

If all goes well, he could be activated to start at some point next week against the White Sox.

Carrasco was arguably the team's hottest pitcher before going down. He had five consecutive quality starts during which he allowed only six runs in 39 2/3 innings. He has 173 strikeouts in 158 innings on the year.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd can't get through the second, gets lit up Thursday

Tigers starter Matt Boyd turned in another poor outing on Thursday, as he was unable to record an out in the second inning before leaving the game. Boyd allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks, en route to the 15-7 thrashing by the Royals.

Boyd was staked to a 3-0 lead before he even took the mound. But he allowed two runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the second, with the big blow being a three-run homer by Lorezno Cain. The Tigers managed to rally back to tie the game, taking Boyd off the hook.

Boyd, whose ERA rose to 8.36 following Thursday's performance, has allowed at least five runs in three of his six starts with the Tigers since coming over in a trade from the Blue Jays.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins SP Kyle Gibson gets no-decision despite quality start

Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson turned in a quality start on Thursday against the White Sox, but was left with a no-decision. Gibson allowed three runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter, as the Twins dropped the series-finale 6-4.

Gibson allowed an early run in the top of the first inning, but the Twins rallied to take the lead on the heels of an Eddie Rosario grand slam in the third. But the White Sox chipped away, adding runs in the fourth and sixth innings. He left the game with the score tied 3-3, but the bullpen gave up three runs in the seventh.

Gibson has allowed three runs or fewer in five of his last seven starts, as his ERA is down to 3.84 on the year.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

White Sox's Erik Johnson starting Sunday, Chris Sale pushed to Monday

The White Sox made a slight change to their pitching rotation Thursday. The team announced starting pitcher Erik Johnson will start Sunday against the Royals, which will bump Chris Sale to Monday against the Indians.

Johnson, who was added to the roster Tuesday, will make his season debut Sunday after a stellar season for Triple-A Charlotte. He went 11-8 with a 2.37 ERA in 23 outings (22 starts). He also had 136 strikeouts in 132 2/3 innings.

Sale is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in two starts against Cleveland this season. He is 7-1 with a 2.42 ERA in 12 starts this season with five days of rest.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers SP Cole Hamels strikes out eight in no-decision

Rangers starting pitcher Cole Hamels was impressive during his start against the Padres on Wednesday.

Hamels limited San Diego to three runs on eight hits in seven strong innings of work. He struck out eight batters while only giving up one walk in the no-decision.

    Hamels (8-8) has a 3.70 ERA in 170 1/3 innings this season.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Mariners SP Taujuan Walker gives up three runs in no-decision

Mariners starting pitcher Taijuan Walker was solid in his start against the Astros on Wednesday.

Walker allowed three runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings. He recorded three strikeouts but also gave up three walks in the no-decision.

Walker now owns a 4.51 ERA this season.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles SP Kevin Gausman gives up two homers in short outing

Orioles starting pitcher Kevin Gausman suffered his shortest start of the season on Wednesday against the Rays.

Gausman lasted just 2 1/3 innings before being pulled from the game. He allowed four runs, three of them earned, on eight hits while giving up two home runs and two walks in the no-decision.

Gausman (2-6) now has a 4.59 ERA in 82 1/3 innings this season.
