Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed just one run on four hits in eight innings of work to claim his fourth win of the seasin in Minnesota's 8-1 win over the White Sox on Sunday.

Gibson cruised through much of his start, making just one mistake when Jose Abreu curshed a solo home run off of him in the fourth inning. Gibson recored eight strikeouts with no walks, lowering his ERA to 2.72 in 56 1/3 innings of work.

Gibson, now 4-3, will look to keep things rolling on Saturday against the Blue Jays.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Mariners SP Taijuan Walker rocked again on road

Mariners pitcher Taijuan Walker continued his road woes, allowing four runs and six hits in just 5 2/3 innings as the Mariners dropped an 8-2 decision to Toronto on Sunday.

Walker did not allow a hit through the first four innings, but the wheels fell off quickly in the fifth inning as the young pitcher fell to 0-4 on the road this season in six starts away from Seattle.

"I was trying to get ahead and thought I did a pretty good job," said Walker to MLB.com. "I felt like my command was pretty good. I just missed with two pitches, and they made it hurt."

Walker, who is 1-5 overall on the season, hasn't won since an April 27 victory against Texas. In the five starts he's made since then, the right-hander has allowed 20 earned runs.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Red Sox's Wade Miley tosses eight one-run innings in win Sunday

Red Sox pitcher Wade Miley earned a win on Sunday, giving up one earned run on just four hits and one walk in eight innings while striking out two in his team's 6-1 victory over the Angels.

Miley (4-4) needed just 97 pitches to complete eight innings, limiting the Angels to just an RBI double in the sixth. He's managed three straight quality starts after an up-and-down April.

"That was the biggest thing, being able to throw the fastball," Miley said to MLB.com. "What [catcher Sandy Leon] did, I feel like every time he put down a finger it's what I wanted to do. We were on the same page from the first inning on, so it's good."

Miley owns a 4.47 ERA and 31:18 K:BB ratio in 50 1/3 innings. His next start will come Friday against the Rangers on the road.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray wins for first time in three weeks

Athletics starter Sonny Gray pitched five shutout innings to move to 5-2 on the season, beating Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Gray won for the first time in 21 days, snapping a two-game losing streak. He allowed four hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out four before leaving with an ankle contusion after being hit by a comebacker.

X-rays on Gray's ankle were negative, per the Bay Area News Group.

Assuming no setback from the injury, Gray's next start is scheduled for Friday, against the Yankees. Manager Bob Melvin was confident after the game that Gray wouldn't miss a start.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Taijuan Walker drops to 1-5 for Mariners

Mariners starter Taijuan Walker dropped to 1-5, losing his third straight decision, Sunday against Toronto.

Walker will go more than a month without a win. His last victory was April 27.

Walker allowed four runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out three, allowing two home runs.

His next start will be Friday, against Cleveland.

  • Red Sox's Justin Masterson to have one more bullpen before rehab

Red Sox pitcher Justin Masterson threw a "pretty intense" bullpen session on Friday, manager John Farrell said on Sunday.

Masterson is moving closer to a return from the shoulder tendinitis that landed him on the 15-day disabled list on May 13.

"He'll have at least one more. We'll probably get a total of three bullpens before we send him out on a rehab assignment," Farrell said, per MLB.com. "He's making strong progress in terms of the intensity of the throws, the volume of the throws."

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Sonny Gray leaves start for Athletics after getting hit by comebacker

Athletics starter Sonny Gray left Sunday's game after five innings.

Gray was hit by a comebacker in the fourth inning. After pitching the fifth, he came out of the game at the start of the sixth inning.

The team announced that Gray left the game with a right ankle contusion.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

White Sox Chris Sale loses second game of year

White Sox starter Chris Sale dropped to 3-2 with a loss to Minnesota on Saturday.

Sale lost for the first time since April 30, allowing four runs, three earned, in eight innings. He gave up five hits, walked one and gave up a pair of home runs.

With 10 strikeouts, it was the third time in four starts that Sale has had double-digit strikeouts.

"I basically lost the game right there in the second inning, giving up two homers. I just have to be down with it. No matter how hard it is if it's up they're going to take advantage," said Sale, per the Daily Herald.

Sale's next start is scheduled for Thursday, at Baltimore.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians pitcher Corey Kluber strikes out seven in eight innings

Indians pitcher Corey Kluber allowed one run on nine hits in eight innings of work on Saturday in Cleveland's 2-1 win over the Reds on Saturday.

Kluber's lone blemish came in the second inning when after allowing two consecutive hits to lead off the inning, Zack Cozart knocked a sacrifice fly into right field to plate Cincinnati's only run. Kluber settled in after that and struck out seven with no walks in the contest.

"Early on I was throwing a lot of strikes, but didn't have the best command," Kluber said to MLB.com. "I missed a few balls over the plate and they did a good job of taking advantage of it."

Kluber, now 2-5, has been on a roll in his last three starts. He has allowed just two runs in 25 innings with 37 strikeouts and just one walk. He will look to keep things rolling Thursday against the Mariners.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners SP James Paxton survives rocky sixth to earn win

Red-hot Mariners lefty James Paxton had to wait a bit Saturday afternoon to find out if his record had been raised to 3-2, but three fine relief performances indeed clinched a victory for him in Toronto.

Paxton allowed two earned runs on four hits in six innings. He walked three and fanned four in lowering his ERA to 3.52.

It was two of those walks to start the sixth that nearly cost him the win. But he recovered to induce a popout and double play that ended his outing and started the waiting game.

"This guy is special. He's a good pitcher," said Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon, per MLB.com. "He got loose after that first inning. He's like most power guys. If you don't get him early, you're probably not going to get him. He started to settle in and get his lather up, and he got to 96, 97 mph pretty easily."

Paxton has strung together five straight quality starts. He has surrendered just six runs on 21 hits in 34 innings during that stretch. He will seek to keep up the good work against equally hot Indians starter Corey Kluber next Thursday.
