Rom (0-1) took the loss Monday, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out four.

The 23-year-old southpaw struggled to keep the Pirates at bay in his major-league debut and was pulled with two outs in the fourth inning after surrendering a three-run homer to Josh Palacios. Rom dazzled in his two starts at Triple-A Memphis after coming over from the Orioles in the Jack Flaherty trade, allowing just one earned run on two hits while striking out 18 across 11 innings; however, he received a rude welcome to the big leagues Monday. Whether the rookie will get another opportunity in the rotation remains uncertain.

Davies (back) allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over six innings for Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

Davies was poised to be activated and start for the Diamondbacks on Sunday, but Hurricane Hilary forced that game to be moved up to Saturday as part of a doubleheader. Instead, Davies made a third rehab start, getting up to 87 pitches, and he should be ready to go this weekend against the Reds. As middling as Sunday's results sound, it was the best of his three rehab starts. In three turns for the Aces, Davies allowed 13 runs on 22 hits and seven walks while striking out six over 13.1 innings.

Cecconi allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out two batters over five innings while taking a no-decision as the primary pitcher against Texas on Monday.

Cecconi was originally slated to start the contest, but Arizona instead opted to go with Joe Mantiply as an opener. Cecconi came on in a scoreless game in the third inning and pitched well for the next five frames, yielding just one run on an Adolis Garcia homer in the seventh. The right-hander wasn't overpowering, notching just six swinging strikes and two punchouts, but he logged his longest outing as a big-leaguer through four appearances and made another strong impression. Cecconi has a 2.93 ERA and 1.04 WHIP through 15.1 frames as he makes his case to remain with the big club, though it's uncertain if the Diamondbacks will deploy him as a traditional starter or as a bulk reliever if they do keep him on the roster.

Wacha improved to 10-2 with a win over Miami on Monday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings.

In his second start since coming off the injured list Aug. 15, Wacha shut down the Marlins for five innings until Josh Bell tagged him for s solo homer in the sixth. That long ball was the only extra-base hit Wacha gave up in the outing, and he emerged with his 10th victory of the campaign. The right-hander has shown no signs of rust since rejoining the rotation, yielding just the one run over 10.1 frames while posting a 12:3 K:BB and picking up a pair of wins.

Nola (11-8) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings against the Giants. He struck out five.

It was a shaky start for Nola, allowing a pair of runs in his first three innings. However, he rebounded to blank the Giants over his subsequent four frames while allowing just one more hit. It was a much-needed effort from the 30-year-old Nola, who had struggled to a 6.75 ERA over his previous four starts. Overall, Nola sports a 4.49 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP and 165:40 K:BB across 26 starts (160.1 innings) this season. He's lined up for a home matchup with the Cardinals in his next outing.

Manager Torey Lovullo believes Henry (elbow) could return in time for the end of the 2023 season, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Lovullo goes on to state that it would be nearly impossible to ramp Henry back up to a starting role, but if he's activated in time, the southpaw could be utilized out of the bullpen. Henry was shifted to the 60-day injured list Saturday, meaning he won't be eligible for a return until Sept. 29.

Cueto was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday with a viral infection, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

It's unclear exactly what is ailing Cueto, but it will prevent him from making at least a couple of starts.

Wright (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday with High-A Rome, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Wright's right shoulder checked out fine during his recent live batting practice sessions, so he'll advance to the final phase of his recovery program by heading to the minors for what will likely be a multi-start rehab assignment between multiple affiliates. His upcoming outing with Rome will be his first since May 3, so he may be tasked with covering just two or three innings as he begins the buildup process. Barring any setbacks, Wright should be ready to return from the 60-day injured list in early-to-mid-September, but it's unclear if Atlanta will have a rotation spot available for him once he's reinstated.

The Pirates promoted Skenes from Single-A Bradenton to Double-A Altoona on Monday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft has already ascended to his third different minor-league affiliate, bypassing the South Atlantic League entirely after brief stops in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and at Bradenton. The 6-foot-6 right-hander from LSU overwhelmed hitters during his two outings in the Florida State League, allowing just one baserunner and striking out four of the 10 batters he faced. Given the hefty workload he handled this spring and summer during LSU's run to the College World Series, Skenes will likely have his innings managed carefully at Altoona for the rest of the season. He's set to make his Double-A debut Saturday.

Rom was recalled from Triple-A Memphis ahead of his start Monday against the Pirates at PNC Park, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Rom will be making his major-league debut Monday. Acquired from the Orioles in the Aug. 1 Jack Flaherty trade, Rom allowed just one earned run while striking out 18 across 11 innings in two starts after joining Memphis. His numbers at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles organization this season weren't nearly as good (5.34 ERA), though he's missed bats consistently in the minors. The Cardinals have rotation spots up for grabs down the stretch, so Rom could earn additional starts if he pitches well Monday.
