Nola (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk through six innings against the Yankees. He struck out five.

Nola's outing was undoubtedly an improvement compared to his Opening Day performance. The right-hander was tagged with a run in the first inning, but he kept the Yankees scoreless until the sixth inning and would eventually depart after his only walk of the game plated a third earned run in the seventh. While Nola still has yet to make it into the win column, he is trending in the right direction. The 29-year-old displayed better control, throwing 62 of his 87 pitches for strikes, and did a better job of staying ahead in his counts. Nola is tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday against the Marlins.

Burnes didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Mets, coughing up six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

Five of the seven hits went for extra bases, including two homers by Pete Alonso, but Burnes was quickly taken off the hook for a loss after exiting when Milwaukee tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning. The right-hander threw 57 of 93 pitches for strikes but managed only five swinging strikes, and the 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner has had a bumpy beginning to his 2023 campaign with a 9.64 ERA and 6:5 K:BB through two starts and 9.1 innings. Burnes will try to use a possible two-step next week to get on track, as the Brewers head out on a road trip that takes them through Arizona and San Diego.

Peterson didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Brewers, surrendering five runs on five hits and five walks over four-plus innings. He struck out five.

The Mets' offense woke up and saved Peterson from a loss, but the left-hander was far from sharp, tossing 49 of 92 pitches for strikes and getting hit hard when he was in the strike zone. The 27-year-old's spot in the rotation is secure due to all the injuries on New York's staff, but through two starts he has a 6.00 ERA and 10:6 K:BB in nine innings. Peterson's next start is set for early next week, at home against the Padres.

Keller (1-0) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings in a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out seven.

The win almost slipped away from him in the seventh, as a tiring Keller left a pitch over the plate that Reese McGuire nearly hooked inside Pesky's Pole for a three-run homer to tie the game, but replay showed that the ball was just foul. The right-hander then struck McGuire out to end his day. Keller threw a hefty 107 pitches in total with a strong 33.6 percent CSW rate, but the Pirates are counting on the 27-year-old to develop into a workhorse this season. Through his first two starts, Keller sports a 3.86 ERA and 15:6 K:BB in 11.2 innings, and he lines up for a potential two-step next week, facing the Astros at home before a weekend series in St. Louis.

Mikolas (0-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Cardinals fell 5-2 to Atlanta, coughing up five runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.

Matt Olson did the most damage against the right-hander, racking up two doubles and a homer by himself in the first four innings. Mikolas did throw 71 of 98 pitches for strikes, but his command within the zone isn't where he wants it -- through two starts, St. Louis' Opening Day starter carries a 9.64 ERA despite a 12:1 K:BB in 9.1 innings thanks to 19 hits. Mikolas' troubles may not be over, and while he lines up for a two-step next week, the first outing is set to be a road start at Coors Field.

Elder (1-0) picked up the win in his season debut Wednesday, allowing two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings in a 5-2 victory over the Cardinals. He struck out six.

The 23-year-old right-hander threw only 47 of 79 pitches for strikes but kept St. Louis' hitters from making much hard contact, and Elder made a strong case to remain in the Atlanta rotation while pitchers like Max Fried (hamstring) and Kyle Wright (shoulder) are on the shelf. At the very least, Elder should make one more start next week at home against the Reds before Wright's projected return April 11.

Cabrera will not make his start against the Mets as scheduled Thursday after the game was postponed, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Major storms are expected on the East Coast, so the game will be pushed back a day to Friday. Presumably, Cabrera will take the ball that day instead, going up against Tylor Megill.

Webb (0-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on nine hits and zero walks over five innings against the White Sox. He struck out four.

Webb gave up two runs in the first, and it could have been worse as Andrew Vaughn was thrown out at home by Mike Yastrzemski to end the inning. The right-hander was able to settle down and tossed three shutout frames before giving up back-to-back RBI knocks to Hanser Alberto and Luis Robert in the fifth, though he was able to get out of the inning before being replaced to start the sixth. Webb posted a 2.90 ERA in 2022, and while his ERA sits at 6.55 through two starts this season, his 16:2 K:BB is encouraging.

Luzardo didn't factor in the decision in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Twins, giving up one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out 10.

The southpaw was dominant in his second start of the year, generating a stunning 20 swinging strikes among his 99 pitches and keeping Minnesota off the board until tiring a bit in his final frame. Luzardo looks healthy and ready to break out in 2023, posting a 0.71 ERA and 15:5 K:BB through his first 12.2 innings, and he next lines up to face the Phillies on the road early next week.

Greene and the Reds won't play Thursday after the Phillies postponed their home opener to Friday because of rain, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Greene was supposed to make his second start of the season Wednesday versus the Cubs before that game got banged due to inclement weather in Cincinnati. The waiting game rolls on for the 23-year-old right-hander as April storms continue to move across parts of the United States. He'll face off against Zack Wheeler in Friday's makeup game at Citizens Bank Park.
