May (1-1) took the loss against Miami on Saturday, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four batters.

May wasn't as dominant as in his season debut one week ago, when he struck out nine batters over five scoreless, one-hit innings. Nonetheless, he looked good again Saturday, throwing 56 of 86 pitches for strikes and holding the Marlins without an extra-base hit. Two of the five base knocks against him were infield singles in the sixth inning, which proved to be the decisive frame. May has made two starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, and he's allowed just two runs over 11 innings while posting a 13:3 K:BB.

Alcantara (12-6) earned the win over the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters over nine innings.

Los Angeles got the better of Alcantara six days ago, hanging six runs on the ace over 3.2 innings. Alcantara got some redemption Saturday, however, inducing 19 swinging strikes and fanning 10 batters en route to his league-best fourth complete game. The right-hander's only meaningful mistake came in the third inning, when he hung a slider that Mookie Betts crushed for a solo home run. Alcantara's triumph over the league's winningest and highest-scoring team is a feather in the cap of a Cy Young-worthy season during which he has thus far posted a 2.13 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 167:46 K:BB over 185.2 innings.

Miley (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Miley was shut down from throwing last week after his shoulder didn't respond well following a rehab appearance. However, he'll test things out during his side session Saturday after resting for several days. If the southpaw feels good after his mound work, it's possible that he'll be cleared to resume a rehab assignment sometime next week.

Anderson signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Saturday and is expected to start Monday against the Cardinals, Byron Kerr of MLB.com reports.

The Reds are dealing with multiple injuries to their starting pitchers and have evidently elected to bring in a 34-year-old from outside the organization rather than call up someone from Triple-A. Anderson hasn't thrown a major-league pitch this season and owns a 6.94 ERA at the highest level since the start of the 2020 campaign. In 80 Triple-A innings this season, he owns a 4.50 ERA.

Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Saturday's start against the Rockies, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Peterson started the second game of a doubleheader against the Phillies last Saturday and gave up three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six in 4.2 innings to take the loss. He'll make at least one more turn through the rotation, and it's possible that he remains with the big-league club until Carlos Carrasco (oblique) is cleared to return.

Carrasco (oblique) will throw a simulated game Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Carrasco has been on the injured list since Aug. 16, but he was cleared to resume mound work this week. The right-hander will take another step in his recovery process early next week by facing hitters, and it seems likely that he'll be able to begin a rehab assignment shortly after his simulated game.

Kershaw (back) threw 70 pitches during a simulated game Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Kershaw also threw three innings during a simulated game Monday and expects to rejoin the Dodgers' rotation Thursday or Friday following Saturday's successful throwing session. Given his workload Saturday, it's unlikely that Kershaw will be on a significant pitch count once he returns from the injured list.

Cavalli (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Nationals were downed 7-3 by the Reds, coughing up seven runs on six hits, two walks and three hit batsmen over 4.1 innings. He struck out six.

Making his big-league debut, Cavalli flashed his potential with the Ks, but the 24-year-old also showed his nervousness as his control and command wavered badly. He threw 57 of 99 pitches for strikes before exiting, and while this wasn't an ideal way to begin a career, the rebuilding Nats will likely keep Cavalli around and let their top pitching prospect get acclimated to the majors over the next handful of weeks.

Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Friday's extra-inning win over the Marlins, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

The Dodgers committed three errors on the night, one of which contributed to a two-run sixth inning by Miami that chased Anderson from the game. The veteran southpaw has been sharp since the All-Star break, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 30:13 K:BB through 43.1 innings over seven outings with five quality starts.

Musgrove did not factor into the decision against the Royals on Friday, allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out two and walking one over 3.2 innings.

Musgrove allowed five runs Friday, but he was credited with only two earned runs due to two errors in a four-run, five-hit fourth inning. The five-run game comes off the heels of three consecutive quality starts where he had 16 total strikeouts. His ERA moved up slightly from 2.91 to 2.96 after the game.
