Castillo tossed 4.2 innings, surrendering three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five in Monday's win over the Brewers. He did not factor into the decision.

Making his season debut, Castillo held the Brewers off the scoreboard for the first three innings Monday. He walked two batters to open the fourth frame before Rowdy Tellez roped a two-run double. The final run on his line came on a leadoff homer by Omar Narvaez the following inning. Castillo threw 87 pitches in the outing, making it likely that he will be able to toss a full workload in his next outing. After posting a 3.98 ERA with a 9.2 K/9 in 2021, his worst outputs since 2018, the 29-year-old will look to return to form this season.

Woodruff (3-2) was charged with the loss Monday after surrendering six runs (five earned) over 4.1 innings against the Reds. He allowed eight hits and walked two while striking out six.

After giving up just one run over four innings, Woodruff imploded in the bottom of the fifth inning, surrendering five runs in the inning. The five-run frame was capped off with a Brandon Drury three-run homer, giving the Reds a 5-3 lead. One more run would score after Woodruff had been pulled from the game. After posting two straight scoreless outings, the 29-year-old has given up 12 earned runs over 14 innings in his last three starts. The difficult stretch has seen his ERA jump from 4.30 to 5.97. He'll look to get back on the right track in his next start, which is tentatively set to come Sunday versus the Marlins.

Quintana (1-1) earned the win after tossing six scoreless innings, giving up two hits and walking four in Monday's victory over the Dodgers.

Quintana produced his best outing of the season, blanking the formidable Dodgers lineup over six innings. The effort was his first quality start of the season and he has now allowed three or less runs in each of his first six outings of 2022. After signing with the Pirates this past offseason, Quintana has opened the year with a 2.70 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 25 strikeouts over his first 30 innings with the team. He tentatively lines up to face the Reds on Sunday.

Urias (2-2) picked up the loss Monday after pitching six innings, surrendering two runs on 11 hits while striking out four against the Pirates.

Urias was fortunate to allow only two runs in this one, giving up a season-high 11 hits. He surrendered a sacrifice fly to Yoshi Tsutsugo in the bottom of the fourth inning and later allowed a solo home run by Michael Perez to open the seventh frame before being pulled. Urias had allowed a total of two earned runs on eight hits over 22 innings in his previous four starts heading into Monday. The outing was his third consecutive quality start and his season numbers now stand at a 2.10 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 23 punchouts in 30 innings.

Miley (elbow) will start Tuesday's game against the Padres, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Miley looked solid in Thursday's rehab start at Triple-A, and the team has since decided that he's ready to return from the injured list. He's set for his first start of the 2022 campaign after missing time with left elbow inflammation.

DeSclafani (ankle) threw a bullpen session Monday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

DeSclafani has been out for two and a half weeks with right ankle inflammation. He's taking steps in the right direction, as he resumed throwing last Monday and has advanced to bullpen work one week later, but he remains without a clear timeline to return.

Pepiot traveled with the Dodgers to Pittsburgh on Monday and could start Wednesday's series finale, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Manager Dave Roberts indicated Saturday that Pepiot could get a call-up soon, and while that's yet to be confirmed, it looks as though he might be about to get his shot. The 24-year-old owns a 2.05 ERA and a 33.0 percent strikeout rate in six Triple-A starts this season, though he's also walked 11.0 percent of opposing batters and has never posted a single-digit walk rate at any level of the minors. Those numbers match his scouting reports, as he has good stuff led by an excellent changeup but also has notable command issues, something which could eventually send him to the bullpen.

Castillo (shoulder) was activated from the injured list as expected Monday ahead of his season debut against the Brewers.

Castillo has been out all year after dealing with shoulder soreness during spring training. He's good to go now after making three rehab starts, a stretch in which he allowed one run on seven hits in 10.1 innings while striking out 16, though he also walked eight batters. He threw 4.1 frames in his most recent rehab start, so he'll likely have the chance to pitch deep enough to get a win Friday but may not be quite up to full speed.

Abbott has a 0.67 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 40:7 K:BB across 27 innings spanning five appearances (four starts) for High-A Dayton.

Those eye-popping numbers include a stretch of three consecutive outings in which Abbott recorded double-digit strikeouts. If there's one knock on Abbott here, it's that he's a little on the older side (a few weeks short of 23) to be considered a big-time prospect in High-A, so his real test will come when he inevitably gets pushed up to Double-A in the near future. If he keeps succeeding like this, he'll garner a lot of attention very quickly. Unlike a lot of other young arms, he's been finishing six innings fairly regularly (three times in his five appearances), which could enable him to move quickly through the organization.

Snell is scheduled to make his third rehab start at Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

With Snell set to continue his rehab assignment, the Padres will temporarily delay making any changes to their six-man rotation, which will allow back-end arms MacKenzie Gore and Nick Martinez to pick up at least one more start. Considering that Snell built up to four innings and 66 pitches in his last rehab start May 4, he shouldn't face any major restrictions with his workload when he makes his return from the 10-day injured list next week for his 2022 debut with the big club. Assuming he comes out of Tuesday's outing with El Paso with no setbacks, Snell could be brought back from the IL to start as early as Sunday's game in Atlanta, though it's possible the Padres wait until next week's series in Philadelphia to add him back into the rotation.
