  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Quality start against Brewers

Alcantara allowed one run on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings Sunday versus Milwaukee. He did not factor in the decision.

Alcantara's only big mistake was a fourth-inning solo home run off the bat of Milwaukee slugger Daniel Vogelbach. Through eight outings, Alcantara has racked up six quality starts. He remains at 1-2 with a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 48:14 K:BB in 49.2 innings this season. Miami's ace tentatively lines up for a tough matchup with the Dodgers next weekend.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Fires 8.1 shutout innings

Wainwright (2-3) allowed three hits and three walks over 8.1 shutout frames Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over Colorado.

Wainwright turned in his best performance of the season and picked up a second straight win for his efforts. The veteran righty allowed runners in scoring position on multiple occasions Sunday but was able to escape every jam unscathed. He lowered his season ERA to 3.80 with a 42:12 K:BB across 42.2 frames. Wainwright is lined up to take the mound in San Diego next weekend.

  • Brewers' Drew Rasmussen: Notches spot save

Rasmussen pitched a scoreless 10th inning with one walk and one strikeout for the save in Sunday's 2-1 extra-inning win over Miami.

Devin Williams and Josh Hader were deployed in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Rasmussen was the next man up for Milwaukee, and he did well to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the 10th. The right-hander has had a rough start to 2021 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB across 14.2 innings -- as such, high-leverage opportunities likely won't be frequent.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

    Mets' Jacob deGrom: Undergoing MRI

DeGrom (side) will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of his injury, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Manager Luis Rojas still classified deGrom's injury as right side tightness following Sunday's early exit. However, Rojas said that the issue is closer to deGrom's lower back than to his lat, which is somewhat encouraging since the right-hander missed his scheduled start Tuesday due to right lat inflammation. A better idea of deGrom's status moving forward should be known once his tests are complete.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Progressing toward return

Gonsolin (shoulder) is slated to throw a bullpen session Sunday and a simulated game later in the week, Matthew Moreno of Dodger Blue reports.

The right-hander was placed on the 10-day injured list and shut down from throwing in early April, but he has since been cleared to begin tossing bullpens. Upon his return, Gonsolin is likely to be looked at as a rotation option to replace the injured Dustin May (elbow).

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Struggling with changeup

Castillo is struggling with his changeup and has adjusted his gameplan to throw the pitch less often, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "What I've seen is about 70% of my pitches are staying in the zone," Castillo said through team interpreter Jorge Merlos. "I'm definitely noticing that and I'm definitely focusing on that, too. What I'm trying to do now is pitch lower so that way we can get more swings and misses and more ground balls."

Castillo's out pitch is his changeup, so it's obviously a big concern when it's not on. He threw 24 changeups against Cleveland on Saturday, drawing 17 swings and only one whiff. It follows that he had only two strikeouts in the short start, with neither of the K's coming on the changeup. Alas, his next start is in Coors Field this week, making it less likely that he fixes his early season woes.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Another rehab outing on tap

Mikolas (shoulder) is scheduled for a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Memphis, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The 32-year-old struggled in his first rehab start last Wednesday and threw 57 pitches over 2.1 innings, and he'll make another start for Memphis this week. Mikolas is expected to require another rehab outing after Wednesday before rejoining the big-league club, so he's likely about two weeks out from being activated from the injured list.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Avoids Coors Field this week

With Sunday's rainout against Cleveland, the Reds will push every starting pitcher back a day this week, including Gray from Tuesday to Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

While this means that Gray will get only one start this week at Pittsburgh, it also means that he'll avoid his scheduled start at Coors Field on Sunday, instead going the next day at home against the Giants a week from Monday.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Side tightness prompts exit

DeGrom was removed from Sunday's start against Arizona as a precaution due to right side tightness, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

It's the same injury that scratched the right-hander from his start last Tuesday, though that was eventually diagnosed as right lat inflammation. The Mets labeling the removal as a precaution should be a good sign, but it doesn't provide much relief with deGrom just missing a start with the same injury. Before departing with the injury while the Mets held a 2-1 lead, deGrom gave up an earned run on one hit and three walks while striking out six over five innings.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Activated for Sunday's start

Paddack (undisclosed) was activated from the injured list and will start Sunday against the Giants.

The 25-year-old has been on the injured list since April 30 for unspecified reasons, and he'll rejoin the rotation in Sunday's series finale. Paddack was likely going through the league's COVID-19 protocols, and he could face some limitations as a starter after being sidelined for over a week.
