  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Fans nine, improves to 4-5

Castillo (4-5) picked up the win Monday against the Brewers, allowing one run on four hits and three walks across 6.2 innings. He struck out nine.

Castillo was sharp once again Monday, with his lone hiccup being a solo shot by Jedd Gyorko in the fifth. The right-hander has won each of his last four starts, punching out 33 while allowing just four runs across 28.2 frames. After starting the campaign 0-5, Castillo will have a chance to even his record when he takes the ball Saturday in Minnesota.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Falls to 5-2

Wainwright (5-2) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings Monday, striking out seven and taking the loss against Kansas City.

Wainwright started out sharp, cruising through four shutout innings to start the evening. He yielded a run in the fifth before coughing up three hits, two walks, and two runs in the sixth before he was yanked. The 39-year-old righty is sporting a 3.05 ERA and 51:14 K:BB. Wainwright will make his final regular-season start this weekend at home against Milwaukee.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Suffers minor injury

Ynoa left Monday's game against the Marlins with a crack in the nail of his right middle finger, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Ynoa was pulled from the contest in the third inning, however, the injury isn't expected to be much of an issue moving forward, according to O'Brien. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out one prior to his departure.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Handed tough loss

Wheeler (4-1) took the loss Monday against the Nationals after giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out seven across 5.2 innings.

Wheeler found trouble early in this one, allowing two runs in the first inning followed by one in the sixth. He failed to receive much run support, resulting in the right-hander's first loss of the 2020 campaign. Wheeler owns a 2.67 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with a 45:12 K:BB across 64 innings.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Fans 14 in tough loss

DeGrom (4-2) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over seven innings Monday, striking out 14 and taking the loss to the Rays.

As usual, deGrom was dominant Monday but the Mets didn't provide much help at the dish. The 32-year-old tied his season best with 14 strikeouts while allowing just a pair of runs, one on a sacrifice fly and another from a solo shot by Nate Lowe. He's making a strong push toward his third straight NL Cy Young, sporting a 2.14 ERA and 94:16 K:BB. DeGrom will look to squeeze in one more start before the season ends in Washington this weekend.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Braves' Cole Hamels: Shut down again

Hamels was placed on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder fatigue Monday.

Since the move was made retroactive to Friday, Hamels is technically eligible to return for the playoffs, but Mark Bowman of MLB.com relays that the southpaw has been removed from Atlanta's playoff pool, so that won't be happening. He's been dealing with shoulder injuries dating back to spring training and had finally been cleared to make his Braves debut last week, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings. That could well be the only start he'll make for Atlanta, as he'll be a free agent this offseason. He'll turn 37 in December, and a player of his age coming off a season almost completely lost to injury may not make him a particularly appealing asset on the free-agent market. Hamels can still pitch when healthy, though, as he recorded a 3.79 ERA across the last two seasons. Atlanta recalled Bryse Wilson in a corresponding move.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cubs' Jose Quintana: Slated to start Tuesday

Quintana (lat) will be activated from the 10-day injured list and start Tuesday against the Pirates, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Quintana has made just two appearances during his injury-riddled 2020 campaign, and he'll make his first start of the season Tuesday. Manager David Ross said that he'd have "a little bit of a leash" on his pitch count in his return to game action. If the Cubs continue to use him as a starter to end the regular season, the southpaw would line up to start the season finale on the road Sunday against the White Sox.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Won't be limited in return

Gray (back) said he doesn't expect to face any limitations with his pitch count when he returns from the 10-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Gray has progressed well from the right mid-back strain he picked up earlier this month, with the injury likely a role in him turning in his two worst starts of the season before he was shut down. Though Gray emphasized that he feels great as he prepares to return from the IL, manager David Bell could have a quick hook for the right-hander if he doesn't look to be in top form early on during Tuesday's outing. The 27-27 Reds enter Monday tied with the Brewers and the Giants for the National League's eighth and final playoff spot, making Cincinnati's three-game home series with Milwaukee one of the more important ones for the MLB postseason picture.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Optioned to alternate camp

Garrett was optioned to the Marlins' alternate training site Monday.

Garrett was roughed up Sunday in his second career start as he was serving as the 29th man in the doubleheader against the Nationals. He'll head back to the alternate training site with just under a week remaining in the regular season, and whether he returns to the majors at some point in 2020 remains to be seen.

  • Edward Cabrera SP | CHC

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Joins taxi squad

Cabrera (arm) will join the Marlins' taxi squad for the team's road trips to Atlanta and New York during the final week of the regular season, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.

The 22-year-old right-hander likely would have made his big-league debut earlier this season when a team-wide COVID-19 outbreak left the Marlins short on healthy pitchers, but Cabrera wasn't available after sustaining an arm injury late in summer camp. Cabrera has moved past the injury, but with Miami's pitching staff having since returned to full strength and no more doubleheaders on the schedule this season, the team doesn't have an obvious spot in the rotation for him. Even so, the hard-throwing Cabrera could still be in the mix for a callup prior to the playoffs, as the Marlins are lacking in high-impact arms out of the bullpen and could view him as an upgrade over most of their relievers currently on the active roster.
