Wade Miley SP | CIN
Reds' Wade Miley: Out with shoulder strain
Miley was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left shoulder strain, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The veteran southpaw delivered four scoreless innings on 64 pitches Thursday against the Brewers, and apparently the shortness of the outing was related to the injury. Miley doesn't have an official timeline for his return, but he'll be eligible to be activated Sept. 8. It's his second stint on the injured list this season, as he previously missed time with a groin injury.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Ready to return, possibly Sunday
Alcantara is ready to return to the rotation and could start Sunday against the Rays, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
It takes a little longer for a starting pitcher to get ready to return from COVID-19 than a position player or reliever, but the word is that Alcantara is ready. Pablo Lopez is starting Saturday, but Sunday's spot is open and it seems probable Alcantara will fill that void. He was a strong breakout candidate coming into the year and struck out seven in 6.2 innings while allowing one earned run in his lone start of the season.

Cole Hamels SP | SD
Braves' Cole Hamels: Could return in September
Hamels (triceps) could return sometime in September, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The idea would be for him to return in time to build up his pitch count in the majors in advance of the postseason. It is unclear where Hamels is at in his throwing program, or if a program is even underway.

David Peterson SP | CHC
Mets' David Peterson: Starting Game 2
Peterson (shoulder) will start Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
He will need to be officially activated from the injured list following Game 1. Peterson has been sidelined for 15 days with left shoulder inflammation, and it is unclear if he will be able to handle a normal workload in the nightcap.

Wade Miley SP | CIN
Reds' Wade Miley: No-decision Thursday
Miley didn't factor into the decision in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Brewers. He tossed four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while fanning three.
Miley had dropped his previous three appearances, so posting a scoreless outing should be a huge confidence booster for him. This was also his first scoreless outing of the season in four games.

Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA
Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Added to taxi squad
Lucchesi will travel with the Padres on their upcoming trip to Colorado as part of the team's taxi squad, Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Lucchesi began the season as the team's fifth starter but was removed from the active roster Aug. 6 after struggling in his first two outings. Heilbrunn notes that the southpaw is stretched out and able to start or pitch in long relief if he is activated, though there is no indication that San Diego plans to make that move at this time. However, the team could be in need of a spot starter with Dinelson Lamet and Garrett Richards each starting half of Thursday's doubleheader, Adrian Morejon's role in the rotation uncertain, and Cal Quantrill being used in a flex role.

Adrian Houser SP | SF
Brewers' Adrian Houser: Hurt by long ball Thursday
Houser (1-3) took the loss in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Reds, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.
Two of the hits off Houser left the yard, as Nick Castellanos and Jesse Winker went back-to-back in the third inning, and the right-hander has now served up at least one homer in every start but one this season. Houser's 4.36 ERA could be a lot worse, but it's headed in the wrong direction as he's allowed at least three runs in four straight outings. He'll try to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, at home against the Tigers on Tuesday.
-
Sonny Gray SP | BOS
Reds' Sonny Gray: Blanks Brewers for fifth win
Gray (5-1) picked up the win in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Brewers, allowing four hits and two walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out four.
With trade rumors swirling around Gray and other members of the Cincy rotation, the right-hander turned in yet another excellent performance. He tossed 50 of 85 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 1.94, but fell short of his sixth quality start in seven outings. Gray is next scheduled to take the mound Tuesday, at home against the Cardinals.
-
Michael Wacha SP | KC
Mets' Michael Wacha: Starting first game Friday
Wacha will start the Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Yankees after Thursday's game against the Marlins was postponed, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Wacha was set to start Thursday against Miami, but with the game being postponed, the right-hander will take the ball in the first half of Friday's twin bill. Wacha has a 6.43 ERA across 14 innings this season.

Kwang Hyun Kim SP | STL
Cardinals' Kwang-Hyun Kim: Logs another strong start
Kim allowed one unearned run on three hits and a walk across six innings as the Cardinals fell to the Pirates in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
Kim allowed an RBI single to Jacob Stallings in the fourth, but it was an unearned run due to a throwing error by Brad Miller. The rookie has now allowed just one earned run across 15.2 innings in his three starts since the Cardinals resumed play following their COVID-19 outbreak. Kim will take an outstanding 1.08 ERA and 0.90 WHIP into his start in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
