Alex Wood RP | ATH
Dodgers' Alex Wood: Arm feeling better
Wood (shoulder) is feeling better and will resume baseball activities Tuesday or Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Wood has been shut down since Tuesday to allow his shoulder inflammation to subside. While a timetable for his return to game action hasn't yet been established, a better picture should come into focus once he sees how his shoulder responds to throwing. Dustin May will continue to serve as a starter in Wood's absence.

Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT
Padres' Jerad Eickhoff: Optioned to alternate training site
Eickhoff was optioned to the Padres' alternate training site Monday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Just one day after his contract was selected by San Diego, Eickhoff will return to alternate camp after failing to make an appearance out of the bullpen. Outfielder Abraham Almonte was added to the active roster to take Eickhoff's place.

Vince Velasquez RP | KC
Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Lines up for another start
Velasquez is tentatively slated to start Friday's game against the Braves, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The Phillies will reorder their rotation after taking the past week off due to COVID-19-related concerns following their season-opening series with the Marlins. As a result, Velasquez lines up to start the first game of the Phillies' homestand Friday, assuming no postponements before the weekend result in other starting pitchers getting pushed back. After the Marlins tagged him for four runs over three innings in his season debut July 26, Velasquez may need a bounce-back outing Friday just to maintain his spot in the rotation. Top pitching prospect Spencer Howard is waiting in the wings at the Phillies' alternate training site and should get a look in the big-league rotation at some point in 2020.

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Encouraging velocity in debut
Kershaw's fastball sat in the 92-93 mph range during his victory over Arizona on Sunday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Kershaw's velocity is unlikely to return to the mid-90s marks he posted in his prime seasons, but Sunday's radar readings are encouraging considering the fact that the southpaw averaged only 90.3 mph on his four-seamer last season. Kershaw's work with Driveline Baseball in the offseason may be a factor in his increased pitch speed, as could an altered approach to his training regimen and pitch sequencing. After missing his Opening Day start due to a back issue, Kershaw looks to be back to full health after a strong debut outing Sunday in which he allowed only three singles and struck out six over 5.2 innings.

Patrick Corbin SP | TOR
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Starting team's first game of week
Corbin is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Mets in Washington, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
After their three-game series in Miami this past weekend was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, the Nationals will return from a four-day break Tuesday. Manager Dave Martinez has opted to use the off days to reorder the pitching schedule, as Corbin and Max Scherzer will take the hill for the two games versus the Mets. The Nationals are only scheduled to play five games this week and may not have Stephen Strasburg (hand) available for any of those contests, so Corbin could be in store for a two-start week if Martinez opts to temporarily shorten the rotation to four men. In that scenario, Austin Voth or Erick Fedde would likely move to the bullpen to clear room for Corbin to start Sunday's series finale with the Orioles.

Aaron Nola SP | PHI
Phillies' Aaron Nola: Lines up for two-start week
Nola is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees in New York, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
After getting the Opening Day nod for the Phillies back on July 24 versus the Marlins, Nola will return to the mound on nine days' rest on the heels of multiple postponements. Assuming no further scheduling snafus over the next few days, Nola will line up for a two-start week, with his second turn coming Sunday at home versus the Braves.

Kyle Wright SP | CHC
Braves' Kyle Wright: Tosses scoreless no-decision Sunday
Wright fired 3.1 scoreless innings in Sunday's win against the Mets but didn't factor into the decision. He allowed five hits and four walks while striking out five.
Although Wright didn't allow any Mets to cross the plate Sunday, he struggled with control, which helped contribute to the nine baserunners that he allowed over just 3.1 innings. As a result, he didn't qualify for the win due to the length of his start. The right-hander was slightly more effective Sunday than he was in his season debut, and he'll attempt to build on his momentum on the road Friday against the Phillies.

David Peterson SP | CHC
Mets' David Peterson: Charged with loss against Braves
Peterson (1-1) allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight over six innings as he was charged with the loss Sunday against the Braves.
Peterson was relatively effective in his second MLB start, but the Mets were unable to generate any offensive production, resulting in a loss for the southpaw. Despite Sunday's decision, Peterson has held his own over his first taste of major-league action, posting a 3.86 ERA and 11:3 K:BB over 11.2 innings to begin the year. His next start should come at home Saturday against the Marlins.

Anthony DeSclafani RP | ARI
Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Strong outing in 2020 debut
DeSclafani allowed three hits over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Tigers in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader. He struck out two and did not issue a walk.
A right teres major strain put DeSclafani on the IL to begin the season. He showed very little rust in his return, working around a leadoff triple in the third inning and completing five frames on just 64 pitches. It was not the most dominant performance in terms of swinging strikes (six), but the right-hander averaged a strikeout per inning last season and the whiffs should come once he's fully up to speed. DeSclafani lines up to pitch in Milwaukee next weekend.

Merrill Kelly SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Yields three runs in loss
Kelly (1-1) allowed three runs on nine hits over six innings Sunday, striking out four batters and taking the loss against the Dodgers.
Things were rough for Kelly right out of the gate as Cody Bellinger took him deep for a two-run blast in the first inning. The 31-year-old settled in for a few innings before Mookie Betts knocked a solo shot off him in the fifth. In his first two starts, Kelly has posted an impressive 2.63 ERA and 11:1 K:BB in 13.2 innings. He'll draw a start in San Diego next weekend.
