Cubs' Yu Darvish: Won't opt out of contract
Darvish will not opt out of his contract and will remain with the Cubs in 2020, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
The 33-year-old posted a 0.81 WHIP with a 118:7 K:BB in 81.2 innings pitched over the second half of last season, but won't test free agency in the offseason. If Darvish can continue to limit the number of walks allowed, he could be a big difference maker again in the Cubs' 2020 rotation.

Tyler Anderson SP | LAA
Giants' Tyler Anderson: Claimed by Giants
Anderson was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Wednesday.
Anderson struggled in five major-league starts last season, posting an 11.76 ERA with a 2.13 WHIP over 20.2 innings pitched before a left knee injury ended his season. The 29-year-old underwent surgery in June and likely won't be ready for the start of the regular season, but he'll look to turn things around when healthy after a career-worst season.

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Big effort to force Game 7
Strasburg went 8.1 innings in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday, holding the Astros to two runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a 7-2 victory.
Strasburg was an absolute stud once again. After getting touched up for a Jose Altuve sac fly and an Alex Bregman solo homer in the first inning, Strasburg settled in and delivered zeros all the way into the ninth. He was finally lifted after retiring Yuli Gurriel to open the inning, although it's possible Strasburg could have finished things off himself with his pitch count at just 104 pitches. Strasburg has made two World Series starts, allowing two earned runs in each with 14 strikeouts and three walks over 14.1 innings. He's 5-0 overall in the 2019 postseason with a 1.98 ERA and 47:4 K:BB ratio in 36.1 innings.

Patrick Corbin SP | TOR
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Named Game 4 starter
Corbin will start Game 4 of the World Series against the Astros on Saturday, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
Corbin was initially scheduled to start Game 3 of the World Series but was deemed not ready after entering in relief during Game 1 on Tuesday. However, the 30-year-old wasn't needed in the team's 12-3 victory Wednesday, making him available for Saturday's game. The southpaw has recorded a 6.91 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 14.1 innings pitched over the postseason.

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Brilliant in Game 2 victory
Strasburg allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings in Wednesday's 12-3 win over the Astros in Game 2 of the World Series. He struck out seven.
Strasburg (1-0) got the better of his pitching duel with Houston starter Justin Verlander, emerging with the win to put his Nationals up 2-0 in the series. The only runs he allowed came in the first inning on a two-run home run by Alex Bregman. Strasburg has been outstanding in the postseason, going 4-0 in his five appearances (four starts) with a 1.93 ERA and an absurd 40:2 K:BB ratio across 28 innings.

Patrick Corbin SP | TOR
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Won't start Game 3
Corbin will not start in Game 3 of the World Series against the Astros on Friday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Manager Dave Martinez announced that Anibal Sanchez would start the third game of the series after Corbin threw 21 pitches in relief during Game 1. After playing catch Wednesday, Martinez said the team will see how Corbin feels, with the possibility of him pitching in relief again Wednesday during Game 2, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. The 30-year-old could start in Game 4, but Martinez was noncommittal about the starter for Saturday's game and expressed confidence in how Corbin has performed out of the bullpen.

Patrick Corbin SP | TOR
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Still in play for Game 3
Corbin could still start Game 3 of the World Series against the Astros on Friday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
While Corbin was initially named the starter for Game 3, his status became uncertain after he threw 21 pitches over one inning of relief work Tuesday during Game 1. However, the 30-year-old was playing catch Wednesday prior to Game 2 and is likely still in play to start Friday's game at Nationals Park. The southpaw allowed one hit while recording two strikeouts in his one inning pitched Tuesday.

Carlos Martinez SP | SF
Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Undergoes shoulder surgery
Martinez underwent a cleanup procedure on his right shoulder Saturday, freelance writer Joe Schwarz reports.
Martinez struggled in the postseason with six runs allowed on six hits and four walks over 3.2 innings, but it's unclear how long he was actually dealing with the shoulder issue. The 28-year-old will have over three months to recover before pitchers and catchers report in February. The right-hander worked exclusively as a reliever in 2019, but he could transition back to starting pitcher next spring if his health isn't a major concern.
