  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Set for one more start

Mahle will make one more start Sunday against the Pirates after Trevor Bauer was scratched due to illness, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Mahle will be pitching on just three days' rest, though he only lasted 2.1 innings in his start Wednesday against the Brewers. He'll get a shot to improve on his 5.34 season ERA, though it's not clear if he'll pitch long enough to get a chance at his third win of the year.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Limited to three innings

Hamels (shoulder) will be limited to just three innings Saturday against the Cardinals, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Hamels is recovered from a sore shoulder enough to start for the first time since Sept. 16, though the Cubs won't push him deep into the game. That's likely related to the injury, though the Cubs also have no reason not to be extra cautious with nothing left to play for this season.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Short start expected

Corbin is expected to have his start Saturday against Cleveland shortened so that he can be available out of the bullpen for Tuesday's wild-card game, Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic reports.

The Nationals want all hands on deck to help them qualify for the divisional round, and that includes Corbin, who would be pitching on just two days' rest if called upon Tuesday. It's unclear exactly how long he's expected to go in Saturday's game.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Picks up 14th win

Buehler (14-4) took the win against San Francisco on Friday, hurling five innings and giving up two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out eight.

Buehler needed 104 pitches to scuffle through five innings but navigated his way around a season-high four walks to pick up the victory. The right-hander induced an impressive 20 swinging strikes while whiffing eight batters. Buehler concludes a strong sophomore season with a 3.26 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 215:37 K:BB and 2.1 WAR in 30 starts covering 182.1 innings. The 2019 All-Star will next pitch in the NLDS, though the order of the rotation in that series has yet to be determined.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Chased early in loss

Cueto (1-2) took the loss after giving up five runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts over two innings in Friday's 9-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Giants management was debating whether to pitch Cueto one last time in a meaningless game, and all parties -- including his fantasy owners -- probably wish they hadn't given the poor results. Most of the damage done to the 33-year-old was via the long ball (three homers), pushing his HR/9 to 1.7 and ERA to 5.06 through four starts. On a positive note, Cueto's velocity (91.3 mph average) returned to his pre-Tommy John levels, which generates some hope for a bounce-back campaign in 2020 following a full offseason of rest.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Feels good after bullpen session

Hill (knee) tossed an encouraging bullpen session Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Manager Dave Roberts described the bullpen session as "electric" and indicated that Hill will start Sunday as planned with a target of three innings. Should the southpaw emerge from that outing without suffering any setbacks, he has an excellent chance of making the postseason roster. If that happens, Hill could start a potential fourth game in the NLDS, though he would be on a limited pitch count.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Fans eight in no-decision

Lauer struck out eight and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks in 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Friday.

The damage came at the end of Lauer's outing, as he issued a bases-loaded walk to Christian Walker and then saw Wilmer Flores score on an error. It was still a solid performance for the 24-year-old, who has recorded eight or more strikeouts in four of his last six starts. Lauer has a 4.45 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 138 strikeouts and 8-10 record in 149.2 innings spanning 30 appearances (29 starts) this year.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Earns 11th win

Senzatela earned the win against the Brewers on Friday, allowing two runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out six across six innings.

The right-hander turned in his ninth quality start with a surprisingly strong performance against a volatile Brewers lineup at Coors Field. His only damage of the night came from an RBI single by Ryan Braun in the first inning and a solo home run by Lorenzo Cain in the fourth. Otherwise, the 24-year-old reeled things to to finish off the season at .500 (11-11) with a 6.71 ERA and 1.75 WHIP.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Gives up one run in no-decision

Davies did not factor into the decision during Friday's loss to the Rockies, allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two across five innings.

Davies left the game in line for a win, but the Rockies quickly tied things up and soon took the lead for good following his exit. The right-hander turned in a solid performance of his own, surrendering his lone run of the night in the form of an RBI single to Tony Wolters in the third inning. Davies finishes the regular season with a 10-7 record, 3.55 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Yields eight hits in no-decision

Lopez allowed four runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts across 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Friday.

The 23-year-old bounced back from walking four batters in his last outing to handing out zero free passes Friday, but the eight hits he yielded led to a fourth straight no-decision. In his last seven outings of the year, which came after he returned from the injured list Aug. 26, Lopez went 0-3 with a 7.01 ERA. He finished the season 5-8 with a 5.09 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 95 strikeouts in 111.1 innings.
