  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: No-decision against Cardinals

Hendricks didn't factor into the decision against the Cardinals on Thursday, giving up four earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings, striking out six and walking one as the Cubs eventually fell 5-4.

Hendricks had given up just one run in each of his last three starts, but he couldn't keep it going in this contest, with the Cardinals tagging him for three of his four earned runs in the fifth and sixth innings before chasing him from the contest after 95 pitches. The right-hander still sports solid numbers, with a 3.37 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 145:32 K:BB across 171 innings. He's scheduled to take the mound for his final start of the regular season in a Wednesday road matchup against the Pirates.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Earns win in relief

Peralta (7-3) earned the win Thursday after holding the Padres scoreless with three strikeouts across 1.1 innings.

Peralta came into the fifth inning to replace starter Jordan Lyles and finished off the final out by whiffing Eric Hosmer. The win was the seventh of the season for the 23-year-old, who was recalled from Triple-A San Antonio on Sept. 1. Peralta owns a 5.36 WHIP and 1.45 ERA across 37 appearances in the majors this season.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Fans seven in loss

Lucchesi (10-9) was charged with the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, lasting just four innings while allowing three runs on six hits and a pair of walks with seven strikeouts.

The southpaw struggled in this one, though the seven strikeouts were certainly a plus. On the bright side, Lucchesi bounced back after getting lit up for eight runs and nine hits during his last time out in Colorado. The 26-year-old now owns a 4.28 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 152:54 K:BB on the season. He'll look to rebound during his last start of the season Wednesday against the Dodgers.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Brewers' Jordan Lyles: Fans nine in no-decision

Lyles did not factor into the decision during Thursday's win over the Padres, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out nine across 4.2 innings.

Aside from serving up a solo home run to Eric Hosmer in the fourth inning, Lyles looked dominant Thursday, allowing just one earned run for the third straight game. On the down side, the 28-year-old failed to complete five innings to get the win, tossing 92 pitches in the effort. Even still, Lyles improves to a 4.17 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 140:53 K:BB on the season. He'll take the hill again on Wednesday at Cincinnati.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Strikes out six

Musgrove allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out six across five innings Thursday against the Mariners. He did not factor into the decision.

All four runs crossed the plate against Musgrove in an error-fueled second inning. However, he settled in from there, allowing only two base knocks in his final three innings of work. Although he's been inconsistent throughout the season, Musgrove has allowed only seven earned runs across his last 22 innings. Still he's maintained a 4.49 ERA due to several blowup outings since the All-Star break, most notable of which was an eight earned run implosion on Aug. 4 against the Mets. He'll look to end the season strong in his final start, currently slated for Thursday at home against the Cubs.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Hit hard by Braves

Nola (12-6) allowed five earned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings to take the loss Thursday against the Braves.

Nola surrendered two home runs, accounting for three of his five earned runs. It was the first time he surrendered multiple home runs in a start since July 28, a span of 10 starts. However, he's now allowed four or more earned runs in three of his last four appearances. That's spiked his ERA to 3.75 across 196.2 innings for the campaign. He'll look to end strong in his final start of the regular season, currently projected to come Tuesday at Washington.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Earns 13th win

Soroka (13-4) allowed two earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five across five innings Thursday to earn the win against the Phillies.

Soroka cruised through the first four innings of his outing, allowing only two hits. He was hit around a bit in the fifth frame, however, as he allowed a triple, double and single consecutively, accounting for both of his earned runs. It was still a positive outing overall for Soroka, who has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight of his 13 starts since the All-Star break. As a result, he's maintained a stellar 2.60 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 169.2 innings this season despite striking out just 135 batters. He's currently projected to make his final start of the regular season on Wednesday at Kansas City.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cubs' Jose Quintana: Next start bumped back

Quintana's next scheduled start has been pushed back from Friday to Saturday, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Quintana was set to take the ball in the second game of the Cubs' series against the Cardinals this weekend, but manager Joe Maddon decided to make a couple moves when Cole Hamels was scratched with shoulder fatigue. Quintana will now start Saturday, and Alec Mills will get the nod Friday instead.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Will not start Saturday

Hamels will not make his scheduled start Saturday due to left shoulder fatigue, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The injury will cost Hamels at least one start, but the Cubs are hopeful he will be able to rejoin the rotation next week. Alec Mills will enter the rotation in Hamels' place, and he will start Friday and bump fellow starter Jose Quintana back a day.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Will pitch this weekend

Woodruff's next appearance will come sometime during this weekend's series against the Pirates, Sophia Minnaert of Fox Sports Wisconsin reports.

The team will make a decision Thursday night about when Woodruff's next appearance will be, but the key takeaway is that he emerged from Tuesday's game physically able to stay on turn. The Brewers have an off day Monday, and Woodruff should get one more appearance next week as he attempts to build up in advance of a possible appearance in the playoffs.
