  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Works in bullpen again

Walker (elbow, shoulder) threw a 22-pitch bullpen session Friday, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

This was Walker's second bullpen session of the week, and it included fastballs and changeups. Manager Torey Lovullo said the team will determine the next steps for the right-hander, who is hoping to get back to pitch at least an inning in a major-league game.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Blanks Brewers for 12th win

Wainwright (12-9) picked up the win Friday, giving up two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings while striking out seven in a 10-0 victory over the Brewers.

The veteran righty has won three straight decisions, and Wainwright has been mostly sharp since the beginning of August, going 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 38:17 K:BB through 46.2 innings over that stretch to help the Cards stay on top in the NL Central. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Nationals.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Folds against Cards

Houser (6-6) took the loss Friday as the Brewers were routed 10-0 by the Cardinals, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks over three innings while striking out five.

Paul Goldschmidt's third-inning grand slam accounted for all the damage off Houser, but that was more than enough with Milwaukee's bats coming up empty on the night. The right-hander will carry a 3.84 ERA and 104:36 K:BB through 98.1 innings into his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Padres.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Takes hard-luck loss

Alcantara (5-13) took the loss despite allowing just a single run on nine hits over seven innings against the Giants on Friday. He struck out six.

It's the 10th time this season in 29 starts the Marlins have provided Alcantara with one or fewer runs of support. The 24-year-old has pitched to a 3.93 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 137:78 K:BB in 178.2 innings this season. Alcantara lines up to face the Diamondbacks on Wednesday to close out the road trip.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Posts 15th win

Castillo (15-6) picked up the win against the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three across five innings.

The right-hander turned in a decent performance against Arizona, though he still can't seem to put together a gem as of late. Making his 30th start of the season, Castillo improved his road record to an impressive 7-1 and did not allow any home runs for the second straight game. The 26-year-old will put his 3.22 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 211:72 to the test in Chicago against the Cubs on Wednesday.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Tosses six scoreless

Soroka (12-4) threw six scoreless innings while allowing one hit with three walks and four strikeouts to earn a victory over the Nationals on Friday.

This was the right-hander's best outing in more than a month since he threw seven shutout frames against the Marlins on Aug. 10. The three walks was more than normal for Soroka, but he still only permitted four baserunners. He sports a 2.57 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 130 strikeouts in 164.2 innings this season. Soroka will start again Thursday at home against the Phillies.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Saddled with eighth loss

Syndergaard (10-8) took the loss Friday night against the Dodgers after giving up four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings.

Syndergaard cruised through three scoreless innings to begin his night, but he surrendered four runs in the fourth inning and would exit with a 4-1 deficit. The 27-year-old right-hander is 2-2 over his last five starts, and he sits with a 4.15 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 180 strikeouts over 180 innings this year.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Cruises to 14th victory

Kershaw (14-5) earned the win after surrendering two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five over 6.1 innings Friday against the Mets.

Kershaw gave up a solo home run in the first inning, but he would settle down for the remainder of the evening. He'd exit the contest with a 7-2 lead after firing 62 of 105 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old southpaw was able to bounce back from three straight losses, and he now sports a 3.05 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 176 punchouts over 165.1 innings this season.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Set to start next week

Paddack will make a start against the Brewers next week, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

The Padres have entertained thoughts of shutting Paddack down for the season, as his 135.2 innings have blown away the 90 he pitched in the minors in 2018, but Paddack's desire to remain in the rotation and his success over the past three games likely inspired the organization to give him another turn. Although manager Andy Green did not specify which day Paddack will start, the Padres' six-man rotation has him in line to be on the mound Tuesday in Milwaukee. Over his last three starts, Paddack has thrown 18.1 innings, allowing only one run while striking out 23.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Will start Tuesday

Stripling will start Tuesday against Tampa Bay, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Stripling will start for the third time in four appearances since returning from the injured list Sept. 1. He is likely to again be on a limited pitch count, as he has averaged only 34 pitches in his previous two starts. While Stripling's role moving forward is unclear, the Dodgers could be preparing him for a piggyback role in the playoffs now that the status of Rich Hill (knee) is a question mark. Stripling has made 29 total appearances this season, 15 in relief and 14 as a starter, compiling a 3.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 82:19 K:BB over 84.2 innings.
