  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Tosses three scoreless innings

Stripling threw three shutout innings Sunday, allowing two hits while striking out two in the win over Arizona. He did not factor into the decision.

In his first MLB action since July 24, Stripling needed just 31 pitches to cruise through three solid innings. Down the stretch, his role is a bit unclear; he's expected to move to the bullpen but could make a few spot starts as well.

  • Dustin May SP | MIL

Dodgers' Dustin May: Avoids serious injury

May (head) passed his concussion test after the game and instead was diagnosed with a contusion to the top right side of his head, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

May entered the game in the fourth inning in relief for starting pitcher Ross Stripling and only recorded one out before taking a scary line drive to the head off the bat of Jake Lamb. The blow to the head appeared to be a lot worse than the diagnosis entails, either way. It's a huge break for May and for the Dodgers that he came out of that with just a head bruise, though May could still miss time to recover.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Picks up 11th win

Corbin (11-6) allowed three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out eight over six innings of work as he cruised to an easy win against the Marlins on Sunday.

Corbin had a historic day on the mound as he became the third pitcher on the Nationals' staff to record 200 strikeouts during the 2019 season. He had a particularly good day overall as he worked four shutout innings before running into some trouble in the fifth, where he gave up all three of his runs on a Starlin Castro solo home run, an Austin Dean RBI double, and a Bryan Holaday RBI sacrifice fly. He then went on to pitch a scoreless sixth and was done for the day after 95 pitches. The southpaw now owns a 3.19 ERA to go along with a 201:54 K:BB ratio across 174.2 innings in 2019. He slated to start next against the Braves in Atlanta on Friday.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Fans nine in win

Lauer (8-8) yielded four runs on six hits over six innings Sunday, striking out nine batters and earning the win over San Francisco.

Lauer allowed a pair of two-run shots Sunday, one to Kevin Pillar in the first inning and another to Evan Longoria in the sixth. His nine strikeouts set a new career best, though. After losing four straight decisions in June and July, the 24-year-old lefty has now won his last three, though he still sports a 4.55 ERA. He'll face the Rockies at home Saturday.

  • Dustin May SP | MIL

Dodgers' Dustin May: Leaves game after scary moment

May took a line drive to the head off the bat of Jake Lamb during his appearance in Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, but he got up and walked off the field under his own power, Richard Morin of The Arizona Republic reports.

May had just entered the game in relief for starting pitcher Ross Stripling and got through just one out before being hit in the head with a sharp line drive. It's encouraging that May was able to get up and walk off the field without any assistance, but it wouldn't be surprising if he were forced to miss some time as a result of the incident.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Called up, placed on IL

The Phillies recalled Eickhoff from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a blister/laceration on his right middle finger.

Eickhoff recently overcame a biceps injury before he was optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 20 but made just one start for Lehigh Valley before apparently succumbing to a new issue. Since Eickhoff wasn't expected to contribute for the big club at any point in September, the Phillies elected to shut him down for the season in order to open up another spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Cole Irvin RP | LAD

Phillies' Cole Irvin: Moves up from Triple-A

The Phillies recalled Irvin from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

He'll give the Phillies an additional long-relief arm in September but will likely see the bulk of his appearances limited to mop-up situations. Irvin previously made eight appearances (three starts) for the Phillies earlier this season, submitting a 7.98 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 29.1 innings.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

    Marlins' Jose Urena: Rejoins Marlins

Urena (back) was activated off the 60-day injured list Sunday.

Urena has been sidelined since early June due to a herniated disc on the left side of his back, but he's ready to rejoin the Marlins after a five-game rehab stint. The 27-year-old could receive a look in the closer's role over the final few weeks of the season.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Returns from injured list

Stripling (biceps) was activated off the 10-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Stripling will make his return from the IL and start Sunday's contest, but he won't work as a traditional starter since he's been preparing to rejoin the Dodgers as a reliever. Dustin May is scheduled to pitch after Stripling completes his two or three frames. The veteran right-hander has a 3.64 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 76:19 K:BB through 76.2 innings this season.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Recalled by Brewers

Peralta was recalled from Triple-A San Antonio on Sunday.

Peralta was optioned to San Antonio on Aug. 18 after surrendering 10 earned runs across four innings throughout six appearances in the month. However, he had stretches of effectiveness prior to the meltdown, racking up 49 strikeouts across 39.2 innings as a reliever for the campaign. He's worked two-inning stints at Triple-A since being sent down, so Peralta will likely work as a multi-inning reliever to close the season in Milwaukee.
