  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Called up to start in doubleheader

Mahle was recalled from Triple-A Louisville ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Cardinals.

Mahle will enter the rotation as a temporary sixth starter as a result of the Reds and Cardinals playing their second doubleheader in as many days. The right-hander has missed most of the second half with a hamstring injury but returned to action for three minor-league starts in August, building up to five innings in his final outing with Louisville.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Scratched with forearm tightness

Darvish was scratched from Sunday's start versus the Brewers with right forearm tightness, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Darvish is only expected to miss the one start as the team plans for him to take the mound next Saturday at Milwaukee. According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com, the 33-year-old has been battling the issue over the last month. Tyler Chatwood will start Sunday in his place.

  • Tim Melville SP | BAL

Rockies' Tim Melville: Gets quick hook in loss

Melville (1-1) took the loss Saturday as the Rockies fell 11-4 to the Pirates, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over only two innings. He struck out one.

After two excellent starts to begin his stint in the Colorado rotation, Melville simply didn't have it Saturday -- Kevin Newman took him deep on the first pitch he threw, and it was downhill from there. The right-hander still has a 3.21 ERA since his promotion, but his 1.43 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB through 14 innings suggests he's been more lucky than good. Melville will next take the mound Friday in San Diego.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Strong effort in ninth win

Musgrove (9-12) picked up the win in Saturday's 11-4 victory over the Rockies, allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings while striking out five.

The Pirates' offense was taking full advantage of playing in Coors Field, scoring five times in the first two innings, but Musgrove was able to mostly hold the Rockies' bats in check en route to his 16th quality start of the season. The right-hander will take a 4.67 ERA and 136:35 K:BB through 154.1 innings into his next outing Friday, at home against the Cardinals.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Hit hard again in loss

Kershaw (13-4) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on five hits and two walks over five innings while striking out six in a 6-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Wilmer Flores and Christian Walker both took the lefty deep in the fourth inning, while two of the other five hits Kershaw gave up were doubles. He's suddenly having trouble keeping the ball in the yard -- after serving up seven homers in 85 innings over his prior 13 starts, Kershaw's been tagged for eight long balls in 18 innings over his last three trips to the mound. He'll take a 2.96 ERA and 165:33 K:BB through 155 frames into his next outing Sept. 7, at home against the Giants.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Braves' Dallas Keuchel: Cruises to sixth win

Keuchel (6-5) picked up the win in Saturday's 11-5 victory over the White Sox, allowing two runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out three.

Atlanta handed the veteran southpaw a 6-1 lead after the first inning, and Keuchel took it from there, tossing 68 of his 101 pitches for strikes while generating plenty of weak contact -- 11 of the 15 outs he recorded on balls in play were grounders. He's won three straight starts, and Keuchel will take a 3.72 ERA and 70:27 K:BB through 84.2 innings into his next outing Friday, at home against the Nationals.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Receives support in win

Ray (12-7) allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings to pick up the win over the Dodgers on Saturday.

This was Ray's second start since he missed time with a back injury, and the right-hander wasn't at his best. The Diamondbacks twice battled back from deficits to enable him to pick up his seventh win in eight decisions. It was the third straight game that Arizona overcame a deficit against the division-leading Dodgers. Ray next takes the ball Friday when the Diamondbacks open a three-game set in Cincinnati.

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Mets' Seth Lugo: Grabs fourth save

Lugo allowed one hit with zero runs and four strikeouts while pitching the last two innings to earn a the save in a 6-3 victory against the Phillies on Saturday.

The 29-year-old is used to throwing multiple innings of relief, as he's pitched 66 frames in 51 appearances with zero starts. Lugo has thrown two innings in three of his last four outings and is currently on an eight-frame scoreless streak. Lugo is 5-3 with four saves, a 3.00 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP and 86 strikeouts in 66 innings this year.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Picks up another win

Matz (9-8) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts across five innings while earning a victory against the Phillies on Saturday.

Because one run was unearned, Matz extended his streak of starts without yielding more than two earned runs to five. During that stretch, he's gone 3-1 with a 2.10 ERA, helping lower his ERA almost a run since the beginning of July. Matz owns a 4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 128 strikeouts in 133.2 innings overall this season. He is scheduled to pitch versus the Phillies again Friday at home.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Pitches well in no-decision

Gray didn't factor in the decision in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader at St. Louis after giving up one unearned run on five hits across 6.2 innings. He struck out four and walked two.

Gray had won his last four starts but saw that streak come to an end as the Reds managed only three hits during the nightcap. The right-hander has been reliable on the mound all season, but he's really excelled since the All-Star break with a 1.62 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 71:21 K:BB over 61 innings.
