  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Hopeful to make next start

Houser (hip) said after his early departure in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Cardinals that he's hopeful to make his next turn through the rotation Sept. 2 versus the Astros, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Houser was cruising along to his fourth straight strong start in a row Tuesday before being pulled after five innings with left hip discomfort. When speaking to the media about the matter afterward, Houser said he didn't feel he had his best command while pitching through the issue, prompting the Brewers to pull him from the contest early. After receiving treatment from the training staff over the next few days, Houser believes he'll be good to go next week. If Houser doesn't progress as quickly as hoped, a team off day Thursday coupled with the expanded roster in September would allow the Brewers to give the righty as much time as he needs to heal up without having to place him on the injured list.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Will get another start

Senzatela is scheduled to make his next start Friday against the Pirates in Colorado, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

After a month-long stint at Triple-A Albuquerque, Senzatela rejoined Colorado last week and started Aug. 25 in St. Louis, giving up six runs on five hits and two walks while failing to escape the second inning. The poor outing normally wouldn't make Senzatela worthy of another turn through the rotation, but the Rockies don't have many alternatives on hand with all of Jon Gray (foot), Kyle Freeland (groin) and German Marquez (arm) all landing on the injured list in the last week. Senzatela can be ignored in just about every fantasy format with a start at hitter-friendly Coors Field coming up next.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Phillies' Drew Smyly: Leaves in sixth during no-decision

Smyly allowed four runs on nine hits with zero walks and four strikeouts across 5.2 innings during a no-decision against the Pirates on Tuesday.

While he's pitching better with the Phillies than he did in Texas, Smyly still isn't posting great numbers. He's yielded fewer than four runs just once in his last five starts, and in that outing, he lasted just 3.2 innings. Smyly owns a 7.20 ERA in his last five starts since surrendering only one run in his first 13 frames with the Phillies. The veteran left-hander will next start at the Reds on Sunday, an outing intp which he'll carry a 2-6 record, 6.95 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 90 strikeouts, all across 89.1 innings.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Takes tough loss against Orioles

Corbin (10-6) struck out nine while allowing two runs on four hits with zero walks across seven innings while taking a loss against the Orioles on Tuesday.

For the fourth straight start, Corbin yielded two runs or fewer, but he was not rewarded with a win for his efforts. He has one victory in his past four outings despite a 1.67 ERA during that stretch. Corbin has taken a lot of no-decisions this season, so this was his first loss since June 11. Overall, he owns a 3.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 193 strikeouts in 168.2 innings. Corbin will face the Mets at home in his next start Monday.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Padres' Cal Quantrill: Shelled in loss to Dodgers

Quantrill (6-5) was hit with the loss against the Dodgers on Tuesday, giving up eight earned runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings, striking out one and walking three as the Padres lost 9-0.

Quantrill had been on a very nice run coming into the contest, but he saw it coming to a crashing halt against the hot-hitting Dodgers, who blasted him for eight of their nine runs for the game. The right-hander sees his ERA shoot up from 3.32 to 3.99 with the effort. He also has a 1.17 WHIP and 71:22 K:BB across 85.2 innings on the season.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Dominates Padres

Buehler (11-3) got the win against the Padres on Tuesday, giving four hits over six scoreless innings, striking out 11 and walking two as the Dodgers prevailed 9-0.

Buehler continues to light it up, as he posted his fifth double-digit strikeout effort of the season in this contest, cruising to his 11th win while holding his opponent scoreless for the third time in his last four outings. The dominant stretch leaves the 25-year-old with fantastic numbers for the season; he's sporting a 3.03 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and ridiculous 185:28 K:BB across 154.1 innings.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Whiffs 10 for eighth win

Mikolas (8-13) earned the win Tuesday at Milwaukee after recording 10 strikeouts and allowing one run on four hits and zero walks across six innings.

Mikolas surrendered his lone run during the second inning as the Brewers strung together three singles, but he allowed only one baserunner over his other five frames. It's the first time in his career the 31-year-old has reached double-digit strikeouts in a game. Mikolas has a 4.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 119:25 K:BB through 154.1 innings and lines up to pitch against the Reds on Sunday.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Mets' Marcus Stroman: Stumbles late against Cubs

Stroman (7-12) allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Cubs.

Stroman pitched a shutout through four innings, allowing only baserunners in the process. However, his outing was soured by a pair of two-run homers -- one in the fifth inning and the other in the sixth -- to deny him a quality start. While he hasn't worked deep into games since joining his new team, he's pitched fairly effectively across his last three starts by allowing seven earned runs in 15.1 innings. He'll look to avoid the long ball in his next outing, currently scheduled for Sunday at Philadelphia.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Start shortened by hip issue

Houser was removed after five innings Tuesday against the Cardinals due to left hip discomfort, Sophia Minnaert of Fox Sports Wisconsin reports.

Houser allowed only one run on four hits Tuesday but was pulled after only 74 pitches due to the hip issue. The right-hander's next turn through the rotation lines up for Monday versus the Astros, and it's currently unclear whether he's expected to be available.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

    Reds' Luis Castillo: Whiffs 11

Castillo (13-5) allowed five earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out 11 to earn the win Tuesday against the Marlins.

Castillo allowed three earned runs in his first two innings of work. However, he rebounded to retire 10 of the next 11 batters he faced -- seven via strikeout. While Jorge Alfaro took him deep in the sixth inning to put somewhat of a damper on his performance, Castillo still came away with a victory while racking up plenty of punchouts. For the season, he now owns a strong 3.21 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 160 innings. He's in line to draw his next start Sunday at St. Louis.
