Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: May miss turn in September
Ryu may have a September start skipped, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Manager Dave Roberts indicated Saturday that the Dodgers are considering skipping Ryu's spot in the rotation sometime in September in order to mitigate possible fatigue. The 32-year-old has struggled in his last two starts, allowing 11 runs in 10 frames to increase his season ERA from 1.45 to 2.00. He has pitched 152.2 innings this season, a mark he has topped only once in his career -- as a rookie in 2013.

Ross Stripling SP | KC
Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Set to pitch three innings
Stripling (biceps) will pitch three innings in an Arizona Summer League game Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Stripling is closing in on a return to the club, though it's still to be determined if he needs an additional rehab appearance after Tuesday's effort. Regardless of when he's activated, Stripling is currently slotted into a role as a long reliever.

Rich Hill SP | KC
Dodgers' Rich Hill: Throws bullpen session
Hill (forearm) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Saturday morning,Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Hill threw only fastballs but plans to mix in breaking balls during his next session. More importantly, Hill suffered no setbacks and is continuing to make progress towards a projected return in early September.

Austin Gomber SP | TEX
Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Knocked around in rehab debut
Gomber (biceps) opened High-A Palm Beach's loss to Fort Myers on Friday, allowing three earned runs on two hits, two walks and a wild pitch across one-third of an inning.
As his final line implies, Gomber was anything but sharp in his first rehab turn, despite the low level of competition. The southpaw fired 22 pitches overall but only nine pitches found the strike zone. Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports that the Cardinals still hope to have Gomber back as a reliever at some point in September, but manager Mike Shildt is leaving all options on the table. "We'll take an evaluation after tomorrow," Shildt said. "It's unfair to say -- what ends up happening is you'll say, 'Well, we need you here by X day in September.' Then you start to push toward that, and you're pushing instead of evaluating and taking it as it comes. We would love for that to happen, but all we can do is evaluate where he's at and where he's at today and how he recovers."

Jordan Lyles RP | KC
Brewers' Jordan Lyles: No-hits Arizona for six innings
Lyles (8-8) picked up the win in Friday's 6-1 victory over the Diamondbacks, walking two batters and striking out five over six no-hit, scoreless innings.
Devin Williams ruined the potential combined no-no in the seventh inning after Lyles had hit the showers, but that takes nothing away from the right-hander's fantastic performance. Lyles has given the Brewers two quality starts in five trips to the mound since joining their rotation, and he'll carry a 4.69 ERA and 113:46 K:BB through 109.1 innings into his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Cardinals.

Merrill Kelly SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Rotation spot in jeopardy
Kelly (9-13) allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out five over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Brewers on Friday.
Kelly has not pitched well of late, surrendering 31 runs (30 earned) over his last 29.1 innings, but he had received the support of manager Torey Lovullo until this most recent outing. "I'll tell you what, that's where we're at right now: no playing time is guaranteed, no next starts are guaranteed," Lovullo told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. "It's something we're constantly evaluating and trying to push forward with the best decisions moving to the next day. I'm sure we'll have some discussions. At this point, I don't know. I don't know that answer." The right-hander has not logged consecutive quality starts since mid-June, and this most recent six-start stretch could cost him his job as the Diamondbacks remain in shouting distance of a spot in the postseason. If Lovullo were to make a move, he may only need to look at Friday's box score to note the performance of Taylor Clarke, the starter working out of the bullpen right now, who retired all six batters he faced.

Anthony DeSclafani RP | ARI
Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Yields one run in no-decision
DeSclafani allowed one run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts across six innings during a no-decision against the Pirates on Friday.
Like last season, DeSclafani has experienced some difficulty keeping the ball in the park, but he did just that Friday and yielded only one run for the second straight start. The right-hander came into the night having alternated wins and losses in his last six outings, but he remains 8-7 with a 4.27 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 131 strikeouts in 128.2 innings this season. DeSclafani will pitch next at the Marlins on Wednesday.

Mitch Keller SP | PIT
Pirates' Mitch Keller: Punches out nine in no-decision
Keller struck out nine while allowing one run on six hits and a walk across six innings during a no-decision against the Reds on Friday.
While Keller wasn't able to capture his second victory, he is on the right track. He's allowed six runs three times in his first six starts, so he has some ugly numbers, but Keller's ERA is a respectable 4.43 overall his last four outings. Overall, he is 1-2 with a 7.24 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. Keller will look to build upon this outing at the Phillies on Wednesday.

Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Gives up three homers in loss
Ryu (12-4) allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out seven and taking the loss in a 10-2 loss to the Yankees.
Solo shots by Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez put Ryu behind, but Didi Gregorius' fifth-inning grand slam accounted for the most significant damage against the Dodgers' starter. It's a second straight poor start from Ryu, who has seen his ERA inflate from 1.53 to 2.00 over his last three outings. He still owns a 0.98 WHIP and 133:19 K:BB heading into his next start versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Chris Paddack RP | TEX
Padres' Chris Paddack: Hit hard in loss
Paddack (7-7) was charged with the loss against the Red Sox on Friday after lasting just 2.1 innings while allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk.
Paddack was lifted after tossing a career-low 2.1 innings as the Red Sox rattled off six runs, matching another career worst. It was the first time all season that he failed to record any strikeouts. The right-hander allowed three runs in the first inning on a home run to J.D. Martinez, then another three in the second largely due to back-to-back doubles by Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts. Following the tough loss, Paddack has a 3.84 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 121:27 K:BB on the season. The 23-year-old heads to the Bay Area for a road contest with the Giants on Thursday.
