  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Yields one run in no-decision

Hendricks allowed one run on three hits with one walk and one strikeout across seven innings during a no-decision against the Pirates on Friday.

Pirates starter Joe Musgrove and Hendricks squared off in an old-fashioned pitchers' duel at PNC Park on Friday, as the pair mowed down batters for seven innings. Musgrove ran into trouble in the eighth, putting Hendricks in line for the win, but the Cubs bullpen blew the lead. Still, this was a great way for the right-hander to bounce back after he allowed seven runs on 12 hits in 2.2 innings during his last outing. Hendricks, who will start next at home against the Giants on Thursday, is 8-9 with a 3.37 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 115 strikeouts in 136.1 innings this season.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Settles for no-decision

Houser allowed one run on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts across seven innings during a no-decision against the Nationals on Friday.

The 26-year-old didn't record as many strikeouts as in his last outing, but he's yielded just two runs in his last 13 frames. While he failed to record the win, Houser is still 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA in his last seven appearances. Overall, he is 5-5 with a 3.76 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 79 strikeouts in 76.2 innings this season. Houser is scheduled to pitch again at the Cardinals on Wednesday.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Stingy despite 11 baserunners

Corbin allowed one run on seven hits with four walks and eight strikeouts across six innings during a no-decision against the Brewers on Friday.

The four walks hurt his WHIP and the offense didn't support him enough to earn the win, but it was still a good night in the ERA and strikeout categories. Corbin has eight whiffs in three of his last four outings, but his success extends back a lot further than that. Since June 19, the lefty is 4-0 with a 2.37 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 68.1 innings across 11 outings. Overall, he is 9-5 with a 3.34 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 180 strikeouts in 153.2 innings this season. Corbin is scheduled to pitch next at the Pirates on Wednesday.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Posts quality start in loss

Alcantara (4-11) was charged with the loss against the Rockies on Friday, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two over seven innings.

After not allowing a home run in three of his last four appearances, Alcantara served up a two-run shot to Ryan McMahon in the second inning. Luckily, that was the only damage of the night for the right-hander, who pitched surprisingly well at hitter-friendly Coors Field. The bad news is that his offense got shut out, continuing Alcantara's misfortune as the pitcher with the lowest run support throughout the majors. On the bright side, the 23-year-old leads the majors in double plays induced, raising his season total to 20 after recording one in the second inning. Alcantara now owns a 4.35 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 101:69 K:BB and will head to Atlanta for a divisional showdown with the Braves on Thursday.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Takes loss despite quality start

Syndergaard (8-6) took the loss Friday as the Mets were downed 4-1 by the Royals, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings while striking out six.

The right-hander didn't get enough run support to avoid the loss, but Syndergaard still delivered his seventh straight quality start since the All-Star break. He now sports an ace-like 2.05 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 50:12 K:BB through 48.1 innings over that stretch, and Syndergaard will look to keep rolling in his next outing Thursday, at home against Cleveland.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Dominant in win

Gray (11-8) earned the win Friday after tossing eight shutout innings against the Marlins. He struck out seven and gave up five hits.

Gray was surprisingly dominant at hitter-friendly Coors Field, albeit against a less than intimidating Miami lineup. It was the fourth time this season that the right-hander held his opposition scoreless while pitching at least six innings. Gray's eight innings pitched also tied his season high, as the the 27-year-old bounced back from an ugly outing in his last start during which he gave up six hits and seven runs to the Padres. Gray had originally been scheduled to pitch Tuesday against the Diamondbacks but was a late scratch because of left ankle soreness. Clearly, the extra days of rest were just what the doctor ordered. Gray will hit the road with a 3.84 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 150:56 K:BB to face off with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Another no-decision despite QS

Soroka didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Dodgers, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks over 6.2 innings while striking out four.

The young right-hander wasn't at his best, tossing only 55 of 95 pitches for strikes, and he needed some timely double plays to escape jams, but Soroka still exited the game in line for his first win since July 14 before Sean Newcomb blew the lead after replacing him in the seventh inning. Soroka will take a 2.41 ERA and 107:33 K:BB through 134.2 innings into his next start Thursday, at home against the Marlins.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Notches three-inning save

Urias gave up a hit and a walk over three scoreless innings of relief while striking out one Friday to record his fourth save of the season in an 8-3 win over Atlanta.

Only one of the southpaw's four saves have been of the traditional one-inning variety. Urias had been tagged for runs in four straight appearances coming into Friday, but he still sports a respectable 2.76 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB through 16.1 innings since the All-Star break as he adapts to a high-leverage, long-relief role for the Dodgers.

  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Fans five for fifth win

Velasquez (5-7) secured the win after giving up three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings Friday against the Padres.

Velasquez cruised through five scoreless innings to begin his night, and while the Padres struck for three runs in the sixth, the Phillies were able to hold on for an 8-4 victory. The 27-year-old right-hander is now 3-2 over his last five starts while holding the opposition to three or fewer runs in each of those outings.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Fans nine in no-decision

Maeda didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 8-3 win over Atlanta, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings while striking out nine.

It was another inefficient performance for Maeda, who's completed five innings only twice in eight outings since the All-Star break. The right-hander will take a 4.18 ERA and 137:43 K:BB through 127 innings into his next start Thursday, at home against the Blue Jays.
