  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Hits wall in no-decision

Mahle didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 12-11 loss to the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings while striking out five.

The right-hander appeared to be in complete control when he took a 7-0 lead into the sixth inning, but Mahle suddenly ran into trouble and the Reds bullpen simply poured more gas on the fire after he left, with the end result being a 10-run inning for St. Louis. Mahle will take a 4.93 ERA and 106:26 K:BB through 102.1 innings into his next start Wednesday in Milwaukee.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Escapes with seventh save

Martinez gave up two runs on two hits and two walks in an inning of relief Friday, striking out two, to record his seventh save of the season in a 12-11 win over the Reds.

He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead and needed every bit of that cushion, loading the bases with two outs and then serving up a two-run single to Jesse Winker, before Martinez finally got Joey Votto to ground out. The right-hander has yet to actually blow any of his five save chances since Jordan Hicks (elbow) was lost for the season, but Martinez has been scored upon in three straight appearances and has now posted a 7.50 ERA through six innings in July, giving him questionable job security in the closer role.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Chased early by Reds

Wainwright didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 12-11 win over the Reds, coughing up seven runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings while striking out four.

After putting together his best start of the season against Arizona in his last trip to the mound Sunday, Wainwright crashed back to earth with his worst outing of the year, as the runs and hits allowed were both season highs. The veteran right-hander will carry a 4.50 ERA and 93:37 K:BB through 98 innings into his next start Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Pirates' Jordan Lyles: Strikes out seven in no-decision

Lyles allowed one run on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts across 5.2 innings during a no-decision against the Phillies on Friday.

After a couple of really poor starts from Lyles, this is what owners wanted to see in response. This outing stopped a two-game streak where he had allowed 14 total runs. The veteran yielded a single and double in the first inning, but after that, he barely allowed any traffic on the bases. The lone run he permitted was a solo homer. Lyles is 5-6 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 80.2 innings this season.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Knocked around by New York

Freeland (2-7) took the loss after giving up five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six over four innings Friday against the Yankees.

Freeland tossed two scoreless frames to start his day, but he found trouble later on, allowing a grand slam in the third inning. He would then give up his fifth run of the game in the fourth on a single to left field. The 26-year-old left-hander hasn't been able to find his groove since returning to the rotation, surrendering five runs in each of his last two outings.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Falls shy of quality start

Teheran didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 win over the Nationals, giving up one run on four hits over 5.2 innings while striking out five.

After tossing five scoreless innings, the right-hander hit the showers after only 83 pitches (57 strikes) when he ran into trouble in the sixth, but Teheran was still in line for his sixth win of the year until Luke Jackson blew the save in the ninth. Teheran will take a 3.61 ERA and 102:52 K:BB through 112.1 innings into his next start Wednesday, at home against the Royals.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: No-decision in Atlanta

Corbin didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 loss to Atlanta, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings while striking out five.

The southpaw wasn't at his sharpest, and Corbin exited the game in line for a loss before Victor Robles hit a game-tying homer in the top of the ninth inning -- only for Fernando Rodney to blow it in the bottom of the frame. Corbin saw his streak of quality starts end at five, but he'll still take a 3.40 ERA and 144:37 K:BB through 124.1 innings into his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Rockies.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Gives up grand slam in no-decision

Lauer allowed five runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts across 4.2 innings during a no-decision against the Cubs on Friday.

Two home runs, including a grand slam, were Lauer's undoing Friday afternoon. He had allowed just three homers in his last 10 appearances, and that hasn't helped him win many games. This was his third straight no-decision, and sixth consecutive start without a win. He avoided a loss Friday because of the Padres offense, but Lauer is 5-7 with a 4.31 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 79 strikeouts in 96 innings this season. His next start is scheduled to come at the Mets on Thursday.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Start moved to Saturday

Musgrove will start Saturday's game against Philadelphia.

Trevor Williams was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to flu-like symptoms, so Musgrove will move up a day. The right-hander will aim to bounce back after surrendering five runs over 4.2 innings during his last start against the Cardinals on Monday.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Scratched from Saturday's start

Williams won't make his scheduled start Saturday against the Phillies due to flu-like symptoms.

Joe Musgrove will take the hill with Williams out of commission. The severity of Williams' illness isn't known, so it's possible the Pirates just push him back in the schedule a couple days rather than skipping his turn entirely. Expect Pittsburgh to reveal their plans for Williams later in the weekend.
