  • Jesus Reyes SP | NYM

Reds' Jesus Reyes: Designated for assignment

Reyes was designated for assignment by the Reds on Thursday.

Reyes was removed from Cincinnati's 40-man roster in order to free up a spot for catcher Ryan Lavarnway, who was signed to a big-league deal Thursday. The 26-year-old Reyes failed to impress across 24 appearances with Triple-A Louisville this season, posting a 5.66 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 42:31 K:BB in 47.2 innings.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Starts throwing program

Hill (forearm) began a throwing program Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The veteran left-hander, who has been on the shelf since June 20 with a flexor tendon strain, made 25 throws from 45 feet and reported no issues afterwards. Hill is expected to extend his throwing out to 60 feet over the next two weeks before ramping things up from there. If all goes well, Hill is hoping to return sometime in September.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: May work in relief this weekend

Manager Dave Roberts said that Maeda will likely pitch an inning in relief Friday or Saturday against the Marlins before slotting back into the rotation Tuesday against the Angels, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Maeda tossed two scoreless, no-hit innings in his start in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Phillies, with his early departure coming as the result of a lengthy rain delay. Since he only tossed 35 pitches in the outing, Maeda won't need more than a day or two before being ready to contribute out of the bullpen. The relief appearance will essentially be the equivalent of a normal between-starts side session for the 31-year-old, who shouldn't face any strict workload limits when he rejoins the rotation next week.

  • Cole Irvin RP | LAD

Phillies' Cole Irvin: Moves up to majors

The Phillies recalled Irvin from Triple-A Lehigh Valley ahead of Thursday's series finale with the Dodgers.

Irvin and Fernando Salas were summoned from the minors to provide fresh arms out of the bullpen after the Phillies needed five relievers to cover the final 6.2 innings of Wednesday's 7-2 loss. The Phillies are still intent on developing Irvin as a starter, so expect him to return to the Triple-A rotation in a few days once Philadelphia's other bullpen arms are sufficiently rested.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Likely to get pushed back

Teheran, who was initially listed as the probable starter for Thursday's series opener against the Nationals, is now expected to start Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Kyle Wright was scratched from his scheduled turn at Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday and is expected to enter the big-league rotation Thursday, replacing the injured Max Fried (finger). The addition of Wright will result in both Teheran and Mike Soroka being pushed back a day, but since they'll both be facing the same team, the change shouldn't have much impact on either pitcher's fantasy outlook in weekly leagues.

  • Kyle Wright SP | CHC

Braves' Kyle Wright: Expected to start Thursday

Wright was scratched from his scheduled turn Wednesday at Triple-A Gwinnett and is expected to be called up to start Thursday's series opener against the Nationals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Due to a pair of off days next week, the Braves could have gotten by with a shortened rotation while Max Fried (finger) is on the mend, but Wright will be added to the mix to afford the other starters an extra day of rest. Wright hasn't appeared in the majors since mid-April after serving up 11 runs on 15 hits and 10 walks over 14 innings in his three starts this season. He has looked sharp of late over his last five turns at Gwinnett, posting a 1.99 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 37:8 K:BB across 31.2 innings.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

    Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Rain-shortened outing

Maeda allowed no hits and two walks while striking out three across two scoreless innings Wednesday against the Phillies. He did not factor into the decision.

Maeda uncharacteristically struggled with his control in his rain-shortened effort Wednesday. He handed out two free passes in as many innings and got just 19 of his 35 pitches across the plate for strikes. Maeda is currently scheduled to draw his next start Tuesday against the Angels.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Strikes out seven in win

Ray (8-6) gave up four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven through six innings to take the win over the Rangers on Wednesday.

Ray had an interesting start, as all four runs came from three home runs. However, he limited the damage otherwise to post a win with a huge offensive output from the Diamondbacks. While it wasn't a spectacular performance, Ray has pitched at least six innings in the last three starts and continues to rack up the strikeouts, qualities that could be attractive to a contender at the trade deadline. The left-hander has a 3.92 ERA with an 11.7 K/9 and a 4.4 BB/9 through 21 starts this season. Ray will get his next start Monday against the Orioles at Chase Field.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Flirts with no-hitter

Paddack (6-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Marlins, allowing one run on one hit and one walk over 7.2 innings while striking out eight.

The rookie flirted with history in his first career start against the organization that traded him for Fernando Rodney in 2016, losing a perfect game on a throwing error in the sixth but still maintaining a no-hitter through seven until Starlin Castro led off the eighth inning with a solo shot. Paddack now sports a 2.70 ERA and 95:19 K:BB through 90 innings.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Falters against Giants

Gray (9-7) took the loss Wednesday versus the Giants after allowing six runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings. He recorded three strikeouts and walks apiece.

Gray ran into trouble early with a three-run first inning and struggled again across the fifth and sixth innings. It's the first time the 27-year-old allowed more than three runs in a start since June 13. Gray has a 4.11 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 124:45 K:BB through 120.1 innings and lines up to pitch at Washington next week.
