  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Early exit against Rangers

Mahle (2-7) took the loss Friday, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings while striking out four as the Reds fell 7-1 to the Rangers.

It was the right-hander's shortest outing of the year -- Mahle had lasted at least five innings in each of his first dozen appearances. He'll carry a 4.46 ERA and 73:17 K:BB through 70.2 innings into his next start Wednesday, at home against the Astros.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Padres' Cal Quantrill: Pitches five innings in no-decision

Quantrill did not factor into the decision in Friday's 16-12 win over the Rockies. He allowed four runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout over five innings.

In his first start at Coors Field, the 23-year-old managed to not get completely destroyed by a hot-hitting Rockies lineup. He gave up the lead on a two-run homer to David Dahl in the third inning and then allowed another pair of runs in the fifth. While it wasn't his best outing, the right-hander still has the potential to make an impact on the Padres' rotation. Through six starts, he owns a 5.23 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 27:8 KK:BB. Quantrill will look for a win in Wednesday's matchup against the Brewers.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Rough go versus Dodgers

Hendricks (7-5) pitched 4.1 innings Friday, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one to take the loss as the Cubs fell 5-3 to the Dodgers.

Hendricks had his shortest start since April 7, with his lowest strikeout total of the season. Hendricks has a 3.36 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 92.2 innings over 14 starts this season. The right-hander will look to bounce back in his next start, taking on the Mets on Thursday.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Fans seven in win

Hill (4-1) earned the win in Friday's 5-3 win over the Cubs, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out seven.

Home runs by Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant accounted for all of the damage against Hill in this contest. The left-hander has not allowed more than three runs in his last eight starts. He has a 2.60 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 52 innings this season while adding 59 strikeouts. Hill is next expected to start against the Giants on Wednesday.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

    Mets' Steven Matz: Takes no-decision

Matz allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks across six innings during a no-decision against the Cardinals on Friday.

The Mets have pushed Matz to the limit his last two starts, as he's thrown a total of 233 pitches. He tossed 72 of his 113 pitches for strikes Friday and recorded 11 swinging strikes. The Mets offense didn't support Matz enough to get him the win, but they bailed him out with some late runs, so he avoided the loss. He remains 5-4 with a 3.93 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 68.2 innings this season. His next outing is scheduled against the Braves on the road Wednesday.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Takes first loss

Davies (7-1) took the loss in Friday's 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Giants, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings.

He was done in by the long ball, with Pablo Sandoval and Kevin Pillar both taking the right-hander deep. Davies took his first loss of the season and has a 2.60 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 79.2 innings. He's next scheduled to face the Padres on Wednesday.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Strikes out eight in no-decision

DeGrom allowed two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and no walks across seven innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals in a suspended game that will be finished Friday.

When he departed, the Mets held a two-run lead, but Edwin Diaz blew his save opportunity. DeGrom's numbers aren't as good as last season, but he's still pitching a lot better than his 3-6 record indicates. He's yielded one or two runs in each of his last six outings, and yet he doesn't have a win during that span. Overall, deGrom has a 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 82.2 innings. He will next pitch at the Braves on Tuesday.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Handed fourth loss

Ray (5-4) allowed five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings in Friday's loss to the Nationals.

Ray struggled to get through the third inning, when he yielded three runs on three hits, and Washington was able to do more damage in the sixth (two runs). The 27-year-old lefty had pieced together two decent outings prior to Friday night's start, so he'll aim to bounce back in his upcoming appearance, which is scheduled for Thursday against the Rockies.

  • Cole Irvin RP | LAD

Phillies' Cole Irvin: Candidate to start Sunday

Irvin could be called up to start Sunday against the Braves, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

The Phillies' plans will depend in part on how they use their bullpen over the next two games, with a full bullpen game also seemingly a possibility. Irvin owns an unimpressive 5.48 ERA in 21.1 innings for the Phillies this season.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Closing in on return

Williams (side) felt fine following his rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Indianapolis and is expected to rejoin Pittsburgh's rotation sometime next week, John Perrotto of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Williams has been on the shelf since May 16 due to a right side strain, though he made it through his minor-league outing without any issues and should be activated within the next week. His return figures to give the Pirates a boost, as he posted a 3.33 ERA with 42 strikeouts over 54 frames in his first nine starts of the season.
