Vince Velasquez RP | KC
Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Throws bullpen session
Velasquez (forearm) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Reports earlier in the week indicated that Velasquez would throw a pair of bullpen sessions, though the pitcher himself said Wednesday that he wasn't sure what his next step would be. He believes that he'll be back in the rotation once he returns from the injured list, though Cole Irvin has won both of his starts as a replacement. Whether or not Velasquez automatically gets his spot back once healthy could depend in part on how Irvin pitches Wednesday against the Cubs.

Tyler Anderson SP | LAA
Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Transferred to 60-day IL
Anderson (knee) was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
He is on the shelf after undergoing surgery to repair a left knee chondral defect, and may not even return this season, so this is simply procedural to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Michael Wacha SP | KC
Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Starting first doubleheader game
Wacha will start the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Royals.
Wacha will be pitching on six days' rest after a recent off day coupled with Tuesday's postponement pushed him back in the schedule. He'll oppose Brad Keller in the first game of the twinbill while Adam Wainwright and Homer Bailey square off in the nightcap.

Julio Teheran SP | BAL
Braves' Julio Teheran: No-decision in San Francisco
Teheran didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Giants, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings while striking out six.
The right-hander got the hook one out shy of a quality start after throwing 94 pitches (57 strikes), then had to watch his fourth win of the year slip away when Luke Jackson blew the save in the ninth. Teheran will take a 3.67 ERA and 62:29 K:BB through 61.1 innings into his next outing Sunday in St. Louis.

Zack Greinke SP | KC
Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Notches 2,500th K in loss
Greinke (6-2) took the loss against San Diego on Tuesday, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five.
Greinke was rolling until the sixth, when a Manny Machado run-scoring single and a two-run homer off the bat of Eric Hosmer gave the Padres a lead they would not relinquish. On a positive note, the Arizona ace threw 98 pitches and showed no lingering signs of the abdominal tightness that forced him out of his previous start. He also became the fifth active pitcher to reach the 2,500 strikeout mark with a whiff of Franmil Reyes in the fourth inning. Despite the loss, Greinke extended his streak of quality starts to 10. He will carry his elite 2.89 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 67:9 K:BB into his next start in San Francisco on Sunday.

Juan Nicasio SP | TEX
Phillies' Juan Nicasio: Takes loss in save chance
Nicasio (0-2) blew the save and was handed the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning Tuesday against the Cubs.
Nicasio entered with a 2-1 lead but had runners on second and third before he was able to record an out. The 32-year-old had the chance to secure saves on back-to-back days in the Windy City, but couldn't close the deal. The two save chances were Nicasio's first two of the season. He now has a 4.09 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 20:11 K:BB through 22 innings.
-
Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Labors through quality start
Eflin allowed one run on six hits and four walks over six innings during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Cubs. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
Eflin issued his highest walk total of the season but managed to work his way out of trouble all game long, limiting the Cubs to just the one run. The right-hander was set up to earn his sixth victory, but Juan Nicasio was unable to close the door during the ninth inning. Eflin has a 2.76 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 47:13 K:BB through 10 starts and lines up to pitch Sunday at Milwaukee.

Sonny Gray SP | BOS
Reds' Sonny Gray: Six shutout innings
Gray (1-4) allowed five hits and four walks while striking out nine across six scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Brewers.
Gray began only 13 of the 25 batters he faced with a strike -- leading to four walks. However, he generated 19 called strikes and 13 swinging strikes on 103 total pitches, all while delivering one his better starts of the season. After displaying fairly strong control early in the season, Gray has struggled to hit the strike zone of late, walking nine batters across his last 15.1 innings. He'll look to improve in that regard while keeping the strong results in his next outing, currently scheduled for Monday against Pittsburgh.
-
Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Sharp in no-decision
Quintana tossed six scoreless innings but did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Phillies. He allowed two hits and three walks while striking out four.
Quintana has failed to record a win over his last three starts, though he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight straight outings dating back to an eight-run disaster April 5. The lefty now has a solid 3.30 ERA for the season and will look to get back into the win column in his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday against the Reds.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Provides quality start
Wheeler allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out six across seven innings Tuesday against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision.
Wheeler was burned by the long ball in an otherwise strong outing, as he was taken deep twice to account for all three of his earned runs. More positively, he issued only two free passes and was able to work deep into the game yet again. Wheeler has completed at least six innings in nine straight starts. That has helped him rack up an impressive 70 strikeouts across 62.2 frames this season. He'll look to provide another quality outing Sunday against Detroit.
